This was an interesting and yet sad news article.

The Boy Who Heard Too Much

He was a 14-year-old blind kid, angry and alone. Then he discovered that he possessed a strange and fearsome superpower — one that put him in the cross hairs of the FBI

Very interesting article! While it's mostly tragic, the Mitt Romney part made me LOL.

I sense an Iron Man Vs Hanna Montana: The Musical being scripted right now. Someone is already choreographing the Dance Battle finale.

Was Marvel in trouble or something? I can't think of really any good reason to sell the company. Everything seemed to be looking up with the movies. Well this could go either really good or really bad....

Well yeah it's all about the money, i get that but still, Marvel was generating money in and of itself right? I mean, it's like Disney getting bought out by Bill Gates. Disney is still making money.

It depends on what they want. Sure, Disney is still making money and doesn't need Bill Gates to buy them. But if Disney is bought out by Bill Gates, you know someone can stop working for the money. Or can start a new endeavor with the money. Or whatever.

If I start a company in my garage that makes me lots of money, that's awesome. If I can sell it to you so that I have more money and can retire next year, that might be even better. It depends on your priorities.

My uncle invented a laser years ago, made a bundle of money, then sold his company to someone else and made a bundle more and retired early. Nice lack of work, if you can get it.

He didn't have sharks or a fancy lair, but he was a total *******. Does that count?

Maybe people on the CEO board at Disney were big fans of Spider-man, read Brand New Day, then decided to buy out Marvel to fire Joe Quesada.

Sony, Turbine, Jagex, Blizzard, and NCsoft named in patent infringement lawsuit

The Boston Globe has reported that Paltalk Holdings Inc. has filed a complaint in Texas against Sony Corp., Activision Blizzard Inc., Turbine Inc., NCsoft Corp., and Jagex Ltd. all for games that violate their patent on computers sharing data so that all users can see the same virtual environment. The games in question are EverQuest, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Guild Wars, and RuneScape (in order of the companies as named above.)

What makes this lawsuit different from the standard patent shakedowns that we've been reporting on is that the patent has already been successfully used in court. Paltalk has already sued, and won against, Microsoft.
In 2006, the company sued Microsoft over the multiplayer features included in Halo series. Microsoft took the suit to court, but ended up settling with Paltalk in mid-trial by paying an undisclosed sum of money. This win gives the lawsuit more legs to stand on, hence why Paltalk is now going after all of the industry bigwigs, including Activision Blizzard.

If you're confused as to how Microsoft settling to Paltalk gives them more credibility in court, it's because Microsoft's bow lends credit to the validity of the patents. This prior case can be used in court, making the suit hard to defend against. Turbine and NCsoft, as stated before, are also already involved in suits of their own, making legal defense trickier for these two companies.

So, they have a patent for BBSes and the entire internet?

This is just stupid.

Hmm, odd that Microsoft would have settled and not squished this like a bug.

I kind of want to see this patent, as "computers sharing data so that all users can see the same virtual environment" could also possibly describe a picture or maybe a floor diagram.

Hmm, I suppose if the lisence was less than the cost of continuing the trial...

Still, some people need a good face stabbing.

That's probably why they settled, figured it'd get them off their back and be more cost effective. Now in hindsight, I'm sure they may be looking back on it and wishing they just quelled it lol.

Al Gore should sue them I think.

The extraordinary true story of a Malawian teenager who transformed his village by building electric windmills out of junk is the subject of a new book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.

Self-taught William Kamkwamba has been feted by climate change campaigners like Al Gore and business leaders the world over.

His against-all-odds achievements are all the more remarkable considering he was forced to quit school aged 14 because his family could no longer afford the $80-a-year (£50) fees.

When he returned to his parents' small plot of farmland in the central Malawian village of Masitala, his future seemed limited.

But this was not another tale of African potential thwarted by poverty.

Baby OK After Train Hits Stroller

The security footage shows the mother stopping on the platform with the stroller facing the tracks. She lets go of the stroller's handle without applying the brake, and appears to hitch her pants with both hands.

The stroller's front wheel drifts toward the track, and the stroller rolls toward the edge, flipping over as it hits the tracks. The mother spots it just before it pitches over the side, and lunges forward - too late.

The train pulls into the station, and the mother clutches her face in apparent panic and devastation. As the train stops, onlookers rush forward. The whole incident took about seven seconds.

The train pushed the stroller about 130 feet (40 meters) along the tracks before it stopped, but it did not go under the train.

The baby, who was strapped into the stroller, received only a bump on the head.

I saw the footage on HuffPo earlier today. That's one very, very lucky baby!
