So with out any further ado I give you.

What Makes Evil? (part six)

Rock Dog turned out to be the leader of a small band of thieves and criminals he had dubbed The Warlords of the Apocalypse, Warlords for short. He ruled through strength and intimidation. Lylith admired his brutality. Lylith proved herself to be a ruthless and bloodthirsty as Rock Dog and rose through the ranks of the Warlords and quickly become Rock Dogs Lieutenant. As Lylith grew in power Helena was driven farther into insanity the constant violence and bloodshed, not just against other criminals and victims but members of the Warlords, was taxing her psyche beyond its limits. For the most part Helena would not interact with Lylith and would try to ignore the suffering that Lylith was inflicting. However, several times a week just as Lylith’s sadistic pleasure would reach its peak. Helena would wrest control of their body and with the fury and strength of a person that was truly insane would end whatever conflict or fight they found themselves in, denying Lylith of her ultimate pleasure. Lylith would pout like an insolent child after Helena’s episodes for Helena’s control was so strong, her insanity so complete, that Lylith would be blocked of every sensation of their shared body.

I really wish you wouldn’t do that.

Silence would be Helena’s only response as she retreated back into her shell inside the landscape of their mind.

This cycle continued until one day while fighting a group called The Council a single bullet changed everything. Normally Lylith would use Helena’s control of what she learned was power over gravitational fields to wrap her body in a dense field of energy that would block any projectiles that came towards her. It was a long fight the Vampyri were incredibly hard to kill. Lylith had just exhausted herself, dropping her shield, when the last vamp fell limp to the floor when there was a loud boom from an well hidden sniper roost from behind Lylith.

Nothing…blackness, no sound, no smells, no sensations what-so-ever.

I’m free…she’s gone…oh sweet oblivion…

Don’t be naïve, child! This is most interesting, I have often wondered what would happen to us if we died.

Helena sobbed, trapped for all eternity with this sadistic sociopath, with nothing to distract Lylith from turning her attention to her roommate. She tried to retreat into her safe place that over the months she had learned to create from memories of her childhood, when her parents were still alive. Memories of her yard, the smells of wild flowers, her mother humming in the kitchen, the feelings of being loved and loving in return, the smell of her father’s clothes when he returned from work. These were all things Lylith didn’t understand and couldn’t use to manipulate to her own purposes. To Lylith this mental space appeared to be nothing, Lylith couldn’t comprehend the feelings and images and it simply didn’t exist. Helena wrapped in her memories tried to think about her parents. Her mother’s light brown hair, soft lightly tanned skin from working in their small vegetable garden, her features almost like Helena’s own. Her father’s dark hair, rough hands, and his face…she could not remember his face. She knew his hair was dark because it matched her own, but his face..when she tried to picture it, it was just a blank featureless smear, eyes, nose, mouth all erased. Helena screamed and her bubble shattered.

WHAT DID YOU DO?!

She rushed Lylith, knowing that their shared powers would not work in this mindscape.
She would beat Lylith with her bare hands for all eternity for taking away her father’s face. She was just about to reach the mental form of Lylith. When an overwhelming sensation washed over both of them. It was like they both dunked into a pool of nearly frozen water. It burned and numbed at the same time. Both Helena’s and Lylith’s mental bodies were paralyzed and they screamed. Blue light began to glow throughout the mindscape and turned into two huge spotlights focusing on the mental images of them both. And for a briefest instant Lylith’s body changed into something indescribably horrible. Helena realized as the world in her mind became nothing but light that she had caught a glimpse of Lylith’s true form.

“Hey, did you make it?” a disembodied voice sounded into her ear.

“What?” Lylith said to voice.

“The sniper got a really clean shot to your back, it was pretty messy. I was pretty sure you were dead, but I hit your Medi-port beacon just in case.”

It took a moment for Lylith to realize that the voice belonged to Rock Dog and was being transmitted via a small communications device that Rock Dog had given her. It was then she remembered that Kalinda had given her another device that would not only teleport her to safety but put her in a chamber that repair any damage that she had sustained. It was first time that she had ever had of using it.

Technology was truly a wonderful thing.

“For a while I was dead, did you find the sniper?” Lylith asked.

“Kinda sorry you missed it. Kiarra went all savage when you got shot.”

Lylith could the sounds of mewling and faintest sounds of Kiarra’s broken English over the radio. Rock Dog had decided that Kiarra wouldn’t get one of the devices after she ate the first one and bit Vertikos the resident Warlord techie when he tried to fit her with one of the devices.

“Yes, Kiarra, your mistress is fine. Anyway, the damnedest thing, Kiarra went feral, and wrapped herself in pure energy and the black miasma crap she just vanished and reappeared behind the sniper and tore him to pieces, you’d be proud. ” Rock Dog continued. “So, we’re all done here, we have what we wanted, and Vertikos is loading up the weapons, and gonna deliver them to our buyer. We are gonna go back to the compound and relax for the rest of night.”

Lylith contemplated going back to the compound that served as the Warlords headquarters and being around that many adrenaline pumped guys swigging beer and telling war stories of the day’s events just didn’t appeal to her.

“Tell, Kiarra to go hunting, I’ve got something I need to take care of. I’ll be out of contact for a day or so.” Lylith said, She climbed out of the reclamation chamber and started for the exit.

“Suit yourself, Lyl, there’s cold b…”

Lylith turned off her radio, and noticed her reflection in a mirror as she passed but something wasn’t right. She walked closer to the mirror and looked at herself, really examined herself, even pulling down the mask that covered her lower face. Up until now her reflection had been that of Helena’s. Shoulder length black hair, slightly almond shaped blue eyes, full lips beneath a perfect nose, it was a miracle that it wasn’t damaged from her arrest so many months ago. She would be considered beautiful by modern standards and could have been a model if this body wasn’t 5’1”. She smiled at her reflection and it was then she finally saw what had caught her interest in the first place. When she smiled the tips of her ears poked through her hair they were most definitely pointed. She pulled back her hair in order to more closely examine her new ears and marveled at how it changed the face she had grown accustomed to seeing. It gave her a menacing appearance and she grimaced at the mirror and saw that her canine teeth had become ever so slightly sharper.

Eep!

Lylith had grown used to not having any interaction with her mind-mate and was surprised that Helena had surfaced during the examination of her new features.

We are going to have to discuss what happened while we were dead. I get the distinct impression that you were going to try to fight me before we were resurrected.

I saw the true you, before we woke up and now I see glimpses of it in the mirror.

I have no idea what you think you saw but I look like you. Lylith deflected the accusation.
We are both changing. I want you to come out of wherever it is you hide from me and live in the present.

There is no peace out here, only blood and suffering.

What if I could give you some peace out here?

Ha! Compassion from the Ice Queen again. How can you be so cold and throw fire like you do?

Lylith ignored the insult.

How would you like to learn how to fly?

I assure you that I writing slowly, it's just that life has blown up in my face and I don't have a lot of time on my hands anymore.

I actually have a professional editor going over my stuff, not that I pay her anything. and a couple of very good creative people to bounce stuff off.

That I wanted to bring this to the first page so I can see how many views I actually have.

[EDIT]Wow 894 views, discounting the 800 or so that are mine, that's about 50 more then I thought.

Once again I assure you I am writing but in the mean time please enjoy. Prophecy and Dreams and The Course of Superhero Romance
