It's a direct copy of a Phil Hale painting. I recall seeing it in one of the collections of Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art.

Although I couldn't find that specific image online, Hale does have a few of a similar ilk: 1 2 3

It could be an ape of Jon Foster, but it really looks like Hale's work to me.

FD's account is borked at the moment, so I'm posting on Dirt's.

Wow. Lemme get this straight. You're accusing me of directly copying somebody's painting, but you can't actually find the image I'm supposedly ripping? So you're just gonna slander my pic and expect people to take your word for it?

When I sat down to do this picture, I kinda drew a blank. I thought it might be cool to do something with an extreme pose and distorted anatomy ala Phil Hale or Jon Foster. Obviously the pose and the treatment of the hair is somewhat iconic recalling Hale's work. Beyond that--character design is Sparky's, rendering style and palette are mine, and the pose is something I sketched and tinkered with until I found something I liked.

If you wanna tell me I'm a hack and bash me for aping people go ahead. You're entitled to your opinion, though I'm mistified why you want to slam giftart. If you're making the claim that I'm lifting one of Phil's paintings back it up.
