Okay, fire/fire was really an obvious choice for this one--I fought with not doing it and finally gave in to it:

Dragonfyre

He was cursed to be half-human and Half-dragon when he helped humans fight a corrupting coven. Unable to pronounce his real name, the Midnighters who found him named him Dragonfyre.

Don't ask why--I couldn't think and I couldn't sleep and I did this:

Official No-Prize

Use it, don't use it, or make your own--I had nothing better to do with my time.

Posted

That's a great idea. I hadn't even thought about that.

Here's mine:

Orange Slice

Not the most original, but I like it. Her years of boarding school fencing classes have finally paid off.

****BUMP*****

Just in case somebody else might want in on the fun. Palette

I just want more people to play--I'm having as much fun making costumes as I've ever had playing the game--well, almost.

Thanks, dd. Maybe people are having trouble with this palette like I did. It's hard to come up with something that isn' Ketchup & Mustard-man. But, it seems like the rest of you have done okay.

Here's my attempt~

Binary Woman

The red color was the hardest part for me, I just couldn't really think of anything to use it on.

Posted

Oh Man!!!! I already have a toon rolled that pretty much already has this palette and I'm in Bangkok.

There will be another when you get back.

Ok here's my entry this week.

I keep meaning to enter this contest, but I never find time. Well, I finally found time to make The Crescent of Mars -- the impartially destructive avatar of an ancient war god. Luckily, he's fallen under the uneasy control of a down-on-his-luck stage magician. Amos Charles found real magic in a scroll that was officially debunked by the great Houdini, but secretly contained the key to controlling The Crescent of Mars. However, the Crescent's appetite for battle and strife is enormous, and Amos is under a constant strain to find suitable targets for his golem, lest it release it's fury on an innocent populace.

I love the color balance on this one! Kudos!

I finally came up with a concept for this palette. Unfortunately, I came up with said concept *just* before my buddies picked me up for our roadtrip, so now I'm on vacation with a dinosaur laptop that cannot handle COH. Drat! Ah well, there's always the next palette!

@Space_Goat good background story. You do know it's not mandatory for the contest, right?

@Manoa feel free to post it when you get back. It just won't be in time to be judged.

Thanks Naz! Thanks Manoa!

Thanks, Naxghul1. I think context can make a costume easier to understand, so I included it. In most cases, the character name is more than enough context, but I felt like my name was perhaps a bit oblique.

On the palette, I'm somewhat stumped by the two golds. In many contexts they don't contrast with each other enough to use well together. In addition, when used separately it seems like the eye won't notice the difference at all. That said, I was really impressed with how it worked on Dragonpyre posted above.

Finally, I've always wanted to make an orange-dominated costume but never had the nerve before now.

I won't have access to my home computer 'till mid-week, so we'll be well into the next palette at that point. But if you don't mind critiquing long after the deadline, I'll post it when I post my entry for next week's palette.

I can give you some notes/pointers if you want.

Citrus entries are posted here. Critique and new palette to come...

Good use of color here – a nice balance between yellow and orange, with the redder color used as an accent. With the hat and the mask, I’m reminded of the older pulp heroes, which in my book, is always cool. I’m stumped by the shoulder pads. My first instinct is to suggest ditching them, but then you’re faced with a potential “gap” of accent use. I like the very dark color on the legs and mask. It makes me think that they’re of the same material as women’s stockings. However, I’d change the color of the hat band to match the gloves and shoulders. It looks like you’re using the “sharp” pattern on the boots, but they’re so covered up by the boots themselves, they may as well not be there at all.

DragonFyre –
Nice job combining this color scheme with the reptilian pieces. Definitely looks draconic. Maybe it’s just the screencaps, but the arm spikes on the upper arms almost blend in. Try to get some more contrast there. Everything else looks good. Definitely a prime candidate for Fire Breath.

Orange Slice –
Again, good use of color patterns. It’s too bad we don’t have any sailor tops to use yet. She’d be a perfect for an anime character. Nice job.

Binary Woman –
I’m not sure what sort of point you’re trying to make with the dots on her costume, but you have a good scheme going with the orange body/red boots and gloves. Things kind of get blurry on the head though. There’s a lot of orange. Unless she’s an alien or other non-human race, there’s no need to use the palette colors for skin tones. You need some red up here, though. It can be the hair or the horns, but you need that red for contrast.

FryerFry –
Clever name. Love the choice of hairstyle. It immediately gives the character a fiery quality before you even get to the colors. Given the eldritch chest emblem and the voodoo-like skull mask, there might be a hint of occultism to the character as well. I’m not sure about the chains. Any particular reason you chose them?

Star Pyre –
Seraff graces us with another golden ager. Nice job all around. Even the hair style is reflective of the era in which the character may have sprung from.

Crescent of Mars –
Despite the mish-mash of costume pieces, this one is off to a good start. He’s a golem, if I read your description correctly, so he needs to look like a golem. He looks too natural/organic right now. Golems are constructs. I think you can deck him out in metal and armor pieces to make him a metal golem, as well as add some texture. Right now, the tights make him look like another muscle-bound superhero. I’d replace the assassin’s mask, samurai gloves, and biker boots with armored parts. Think lines and corners as opposed to curves. You’ve got a good color scheme, you just need the pieces to fit your concept (at least that’s how I’m interpreting it).

This is a tough one. It may take a day or two to make a decision.

Actually the dark face and legs are the darkest brown skin tone.

Looking at it over the week I thought I should have used the red for the sharp pattern on the boots and perhaps the small shoulder pieces... as for the hat band, that's an auto color, we choose the hat and hair color.

Thanks!

Damn, you're a quick one!

You'll never guess where the inspiration for this week's palette came from.
