Questions for Video Makers

Hey folks,

I realize that the w00t Studios site isn't all you want it to be for hosting videos and I've realized how problematic the system I used is. The site's recent lag is an other issue that will be resolved soon as we'll be changing to a new webserver by the end of the month.

So my question for all of you, what things are most important for posting your videos?

Do you care if it auto generates video to embed it elsewhere?

What formats are most important to you for the site to display the video for everyone to view?

Personally I'm not a fan of sites that auto convert the videos to one format and size. I'd rather place a file size limit than reduce the quality of videos.

I created the site to help the community out and obviously its not what you want/need. So what can I do to make it usefull?

Well *I* like it!

Did the image system change recently? I remember going nuts trying to find how to view my images except right after I uploaded them. Now it seems easy.

Seems a good place to collect videos on the latest MMO's, too.

It's definitely a fine place to put demos. Heck, it's THE place to put demos! Thing is, I don't know how many folks are interested in seeing other people's demos. I've got tons of the things but would other folks really be interested in seeing them? Sure doesn't look like many hits for what little I have uploaded.

The site is great, I like it. Glad to hear you're changing to fix the lag, that was the only thing that bothered me at times.

As for what's important, I think more than anything I appreciate a site that preserves video quality.

It's why I -loved- Stage 6 before they took it down and why I hate YouTube. I like YouTube because of the broader exposure, but that's it. I don't like how they scale everything down. I used to preserve the quality of the music I used, along with the original resolutions, for my videos when I'd submit to them, but I realized it made no difference because of their scaling. So, I just use standard .mp3 for the music and dumb down the resolution to 320xwhatever they ask for, so that it's micro small in file size.

As for formats, I stick to .avi's and use the DivX codec for my stuff. I've tried making some .mp4s and I made a quicktime format once, but I still like and use .avi all the time.

That's about. Really appreciate all the work you put into your site Jester Hope that helped some.

The only problem I've noticed on the w00tstudios site after having mine hosted there for the CoC contest is that it cuts off the right side of my video (like a wonky margin).

For myself, while I'm not overly fond of YouTube, it's a convenient place for the low-rez versions of my stuff, while the high-rez versions go on my own website (and those are not embedded- they are just set for download).

And while I fully understand the need for a size limit (first to reduce storage, and second to reduce bandwidth), that's a limitation that I can avoid just by hosting on my own servers... and I intend to create some BIG videos for this game.

My format of choice is WMV because not everyone has (or can use) the DivX codecs (and most video editing software spazzes when you IMPORT DivX stuff).

But I wish you the best of luck with your site, and certainly appreciate you playing host to the contest!
