I decided to finally do an inking and coloring job with my tablet. I think it turned out pretty well. Linky

Congrats!

What kind of tablet did you get?

Not bad! The lines are a little shaky, but the more you draw, the better you'll get at doing smooth lines.

I have a big 9x12 tablet, and some of my longer lines still get jittery.

Nice job for your first tablet work!

My only suggestion would be to vary the colors a bit, or do a little dodge and burn, on some areas to give some shading and highlights and a bit more depth.

Good piece!

the colors were more of something I slapped on after the ink, cause you know flats are easy. I haven't gotten the nerve to do anymore than that though.

I actually recommend not using dodge and burn.

Normally sure, but it'd fun to play with and you can repeat until you get the lights and darks you want, then blend. For small pieces it's worked ok for me, especially on areas like the eyes and lips.

If you know how dark you want certain areas you can just pick that color and go to town. But I rarely know what I want until after I've done it.

'Course this is more from a photomanip point of view.

I generally use digital paint, or render the light and dark with layers of white or dark grey that have varied transparency. That way I can adjust each of the layers separately to find a specifically perfect shade.

Or I just use cell shading.

Funny as in big letters, skewy page set up and a horrible white background that makes my eyes bleed....
