VOIP and Roleplaying
I'd like to see somebody try to RP a char of the opposite sex over a VOIP.
I know I have. People were surprised and a little scared over how well I did it.
I'm not sure if I should be scared, too.
Hehe. Falsetto voice, Term, or a real change-up?
As for me, I think Voice Chat wouldn't hurt things at all. I might actually try to RP OVER the chat once in a while if the sound quality is decent. But also, using in-game chat for in-character and Voice for OOC would also be pretty sound.
And the really really really "hardcore" RPers should be okay with it for teams, because then they just speak as their character and have the others do the same. *shrug*

Term, you know what this means. You need to show me. ASAP.
I also attempted this a while back but all it did was bring more luls.
i also think it would break immersion. i play with no sound whatsoever 99% of the time and i think it would be very intrusive into my personal play style. id end up in all sorts of OOC chatter and forget what i was doing and sounding like a nerd wouldn't help. Plus typing things out gives me time to see what im about to say and really really helps me re-word things that need it.. i can't do that when talking.. unfortunatly i just get carried away
blegh!
Ok, this thought came to me while browsing the VOIP topic and Castle's response
(here)
but I figured this forum would be a better place to get a response.
I'm curious:
Roleplayers, do you use Voice Chat systems?
If so, do you Roleplay over them?
While I agree with Castle's rationale ("immersion damaging") Lady_Athyna's post that "I just think of the voice as the player behind the keyboard and the typing as the character if there's a need to differentiate" had me thinking of my own experience:
I rarely talk AS my character in voice chat, but often talk ABOUT my character. RP happens in chat, and while that's going on, VOIP is used to chat OOC about what's going on... often laughing at ourselves or our gaffes. It's more of a "Mystery Science Theatre 3000" experience.
What's your experience?
