Backwards? The stars are next to the pole.... Awesome image though.
The stripes are off to the left. Most pictures featuring the flag have the stripes on the right. Granted, when a flag's on a flagpole it can blow in whatever direction the wind blows.... but if Mesh (or you) simply flipped the picture horizontally, then the flag facing would be "correct".

Left facing stripes usually denote anarchy or retreat, that's all. But military personnel wear flags bearing the stripes left for other symbolism . Most folks aren't aware of US Flag etiquette, no worries.
There is a difference between how you hang a flag and this picture. When a flag is on a pole, the orientation of the stripes will depend upon which side of the pole you are on. I don't see any problem with it at all.

And yeah, to me it just looks like the flag orientation is simply a matter of viewer position.
