Pst pst, what does Akiochan stand for?
=o.O=???
It's a pretty sounding name!
=^_^=b
It's really supposed to be Akio-chan. (The -chan being the ending to the name which basically means friend) The name Akio means Bright Hero. At least that's the meaning I'm using.
It's Japanese.
I assume your new persona is female? Because while the -chan suffix isn't gender specific persay, it's used in reference to girls primarily. If it was a male, you'd use -kun instead.

Hi derekko! :P
And I thought chan meant like... channel? :P Like Rowr-chan, I'm channelling Rowr! :P
Well it works like this kinda:
-chan - a very affectionate suffix, typically applied to girls, but can be applied to males by those who are close to them.
-kun - more commonly applied to males, can denote someone who is either a friend or someone of a lower standing within an organization. (For example, your boss might refer to you as -kun, though you'd be expected to refer to them as -san)
-san - basic honorific, sometimes compared to "Mr/Ms" in western culture.
-sama - a more formal title, usually reserved for those of great experience, age, or standing.
-donno - from what I can tell a mostly archaic title, but basically a "lord/lady" equivelant, someone of very very high standing. I don't know if its still used, but its one I've read about >.>
There's also -tan, but I don't know how that one's applied at all.

No, he's male. It's like Squirrel said, it's also referred to males who are good friends. It's kinda like saying I'm friendly with everyone.

Well, see the thing is, unless you're *REALLY* close to someone, this sounds unusual. The -kun suffix is actually the better choice when it comes to a familiar tone of voice. Akio-kun would be the way people that were friendly with you, would talk to you. If they were strangers, they'd use your family name instead. When you get really close to someone, you drop the honorifics altogether and just use the given name; so Akio, instead of Akio-chan, Akio-kun, Akio-dono.
From a Japanese point of view, it's actually slightly insulting if you use a suffix for yourself that implies a strong relationship with others without knowing them well.
Also, when people use that suffix for males, it's typically in a slightly insulting way as well. Between friends, it's like a light jab at your buddy, insinuating a 'girlish' emotional attachment. No matter how you cut it, it sounds feminine when you use it out of nowhere. -chin would almost be better in this case, making it obvious that it's being used in a demeaning, childish fashion, rather than making allusions to femininity.
You're free to call yourself whatever you want, but you should be aware of the context you're implying, when you do.
(Also, Akio means Bright/Shining/Clear + Male/Man/Husband, it's a shortened version of Akihiko. It basically means "Bright Man." Yuu is the proper term for hero when used in a name, meaning Superior/Aid/Hero.)

Just in case anyone doesn't now, Akio-chan is just my new name. I'm Derek Fayte, and you can still call me Derek, if you want. I've kinda gotten used to it.
I haven't been around the art forum in a while... Sooo... Hi! xD
