Mr.Wrong

Well, a number of people have encouraged me to try drawing some non-erotic things and perhaps even try drawing... a guy.

If I really want to be an artist they are probably right =)

So... here is a new piece that is completely SFW

Mr.Wrong

not bad, I would suggest adding some shadows in small, medium and large blocks to give the thin weighted outline more 3 dimensional depth... or in other words, ink that sucka!

Nothing against risque artwork, but that one looks good. You put a lot of detail into it compared to some of your other pieces.

I agree with Lady -- some lining detail and maybe some shading would really add to it.

This seems self-contradictory to me.

There are artists out there working in some of the most disgusting media in the world. Stereotypically these people are not popular. Perhaps they are even bad human beings, but they do produce art.

In your case, your art features a touch of erotica. Not only is this still art, but stereotypically your popularity can only increase from it.

And on top of that you can still pull off a nicely stylized pic like Mr. Wrong. I mean... come on... you doubt yourself that much?

An artist drives herself. People telling you what to do can't make you an artist. You've got to want to make that statement on your own canvas. And from what I've seen of your work, you've been an artist for a long time. I want to see more.

yes, unfortunately... I do doubt myself that much

I agree with Goldbricker...99% of the work I do is erotic art, and if someone wants to tell me I'm not an artist because of that...their loss. You do some damn fine art, and don't let anyone tell you you're not an artist because your work isn't always safe for work.

That said...very nice work on Mr. Wrong. Can't wait to see it colored

I’m the kinda gal/guy who thinks that art is what you make it. That guy that spits sketches onto the street (check youtube for ‘spit art’) is an artist. I’m an artist, I just write stories instead of taking a brush or pencil or whatever it is you kids do.

Heck, half of ancient art we would currently consider erotica. Venus de Milo. David. That statue of Juliet that everyone second bases it with in Italy. The list goes on and on!

The most frustrating thing about art is when someone takes to defining it. You create art. Don’t worry anymore about it than that.

Also, Mr. Wrong rules. I love it!

Thank you all for the postive feedback. I know it needs more shading and inking, etc but I'm just not that far along in my skills.

and coloring? yah... I'd love to color it but again, I don't think I'm that far along yet.

Skills, schmills, you gotta fail 100 times before you get it right, but then you do get it right... print it out, put a piece of tracing paper over it, and take a fat black marker and go to town... experiment with a light source from one side, then take another piece of tracing paper and do the light coming from the other side...

My comic art teacher in college had us to that excersize with brushes and india ink, it was a pain, but great practice.

Go for it, never give up, never surrender! (okay I have to stop watching Galaxy Quest)

Can you please draw me my Mr. Right?

Good stuff. It looks like you've got a distinctive style arising, too. Keep at it.

And it doesn't hurt to listen to some advice and take on some challenges. Part of the artist's path, IMO, is taking on difficult projects and getting yourself through them. That adds a sense of accomplishment, which in turn adds confidence.

Keep up the good work!

What?!?!

You decide to draw a guy and you also decide to make it SFW?

>.>
<.<

Oh! The injustice! *Waves hands in the air hysterically*

...That is a very good basic structure you have there, by the way. Keep working on those little details, but the overall underlying composition shows nice promise.

<.<

Ok... now... Back to "NSFW," but keep practicing males.

ROTFL! That made my day

maybe I'll try drawing something just for you Aerones =)

I don't think ANYONE said she wasn't an artist <O.O> I was in the thread where this was suggested! (And indeed, one of the people making the suggestion!)

In no way was that what was implied.

Rather, we were saying "it's good to spread your range". I believe I even mentioned quite explicitly that erotica is a very good form of art - it deals with something very innate and human.

But nevertheless, its good to have some breadth to your abilities ya know?

As for the piece Gamma <@_@> I like it! In particular I'm fond of the way you did his legs - I agree though, could use some ink and shade. But still, great start <^.^>m Don't you ever get discouraged >.< we only suggest things cause we know you CAN do more <^.~> ya know?

for me it was encouragement to try something new.

I'm glad <^.^> I hope to see more stuff soon too!

I was more responding to Gamma's comment in the original post: "If I want to be an artist..." rather than anything said in another thread...especially since I don't think I saw the other thread you mention. Just trying to offer encouragement and speak from personal experience.
