Possible contest...
Sounds fun. But sadly, I don't have a paypal account or anything. >_>
neither do I, actually.... I figured I'd have to be flexable... and that, I can be.
i'd get the prizes out somehow, everyone wants a little extra money, right?
After running a contest of my own I can honestly say it's fun. Good luck and i just may throw in a timm for my entry
i would try my best to enter. i like it when people hold these contests wether i win/get a prize or not. its fun seeing how so many people view and interpret one persons character. good luck with this contest if you decide to hold it!
well, I really want there to be some solid prizes.... and if this works, I'd love to sponsor further contests of a similar style... I have plenty of dear characters that could use some community lovin...
....and I'd love to hunt down those frequenters here who dont have much up for their characters, and get them into the limelight, at some point (though that would be for the bigger future.)
I mean.. the Bucky's and Scarf's and even Spino's get a lot of face time.... but theres many more in the community who dont have the means or the clout (whasnames like myself) who dont.
Sort of a leg up in the rat-race that is commission toting
A fine idea.
Ok... I think Im going to have to limit entrants, though...
would 15 be too few?
I feel..kinda bad not having "consolation" stuff less than 15 or 20 bucks.....
but if I have too many consolations, it'll put me in the poor house ;P
how many dedicated "semi-amature" artists are there around our little corner of the community? (thats the old use of the word....i.e. community members that do hero/villain art mostly because they love it.... not because it pays the bills :-/. because as much as Id love to have a bunch of professional artist get involved... I feel like the "prize" would be a little less than their time is worth :-/ so the first place is more of a perk to someone who doesnt fire off commish regularly.)
I dont know.... would 10 bucks seem like a waste of time amount for a consolation? that would let in significantly more participants (heck, I could pay off 20 entrants, with a little forethought... not including the 3 "Ranked" winners...)
This sounds like an interesting idea...I wouldn't mind taking a crack at drawing one of your characters, now that the semester is drawing to a close and I have a bit of time to myself.
As for monetary rewards, gosh, I don't know! The only piece of art I ever sold was an oil painting copy of Starry Night I made in 5th grade that I sold to the vice principal of the school (haha), so I feel like I have no grounds to base fair rewards on.
it isnt so much about "fair compensation".... so much as "Would you still feel like you got a "prize" (consolation, runner up, second, and first) if you got *X*....
Sure, I would do it for a lollipop :P
considering you could ask for art in several different threads and get great results for free i think 10 is fine. most people enjoy drawing so even if they didnt get a prize it is often still fun and rewarding. either way ill probably take a crack at drawing your character now that i have some time (end of the school year :P).
well, I know what your getting with your winnings ;P
money's just easier to hand out than shipping actual items, in my opinion...
Im glad to hear that any sort of prize would be enjoyed, but I still want it to be...well... useful :-/
Oh... one other question...
Is a month too long to run this contest? I was thinking the month of june would be a good time (itsa mah birthday on da 7th )
but I know absolutely nothing about art... and how long it takes to get something quality produced...
is a month too long? too short? just right?
I ran my contest for a month and I got about 9 entries...mabey 10.
The longer it runs the more time people have to join in.
A month is a reasonable amount of time, atleast in my perspective.

I think two months would be nice for people who might have a lot of stuff on their plates, and giving them a month to kind of plan, get an idea in their head, refine it, and then another month to get it on paper might be useful. I know I used to take a long time to think of ideas...
And I think $5 is a nice prize!!! Of course, any money for my skill is wonderful
Scarf_Girls Official Kid Brother!
Well, ok....
heres how Im thinking its going to work.... Im going to announce the contest (i.e. give it its own thread) on june first. From that point, the members of the community who want to be involved have one week to BOTH post in the thread, and PM me (yea, I want to make sure you're dedicated :-P)
On june 7th (yay, my birf-day) I'll post a list of the contestants (as there will be a limited number of slots... hopefully not too limited) and give out the details of the piece that needs to be drawn for the contest.
I'll accept Completed entries the 7 days between July 7th and July 14, with winners announced sometime shortly there after.
WIPs can be posted in the thread and such... but only images submitted in that week will be considered.
Anyone who submits a final entry will get at least the consolation prize (TBD), with a chance at 1st, 2nd, Runner Up, and Best theme prizes (more on that later.)
does that seem a decient set up?
Sounds like a plan!

This was just an idea I had... but before I went forward with it, I wanted to know if there would be any interest (and also wanted opinions on whether posting about it here would be bad form)
the basic idea was to have an art contest to draw one of my characters based on information provided (theres a site in my sig thats easily updated)...
and then offering up cash prizes to winners/runners up/etc...
basically, I was thinking of having top prize be around a middle ranged commission (300 ish) with a prize for second, third, and consolation...
so basically, everyone who participates (within reason, Im not THAT rich :-P) would get something monitary, with the winners basically getting comission price'd prizes.
I'd offer up other non-cash stuff.. but, well... I dont have anything.
but in general.... does the contest sound like something "fun".... or should I just go buy comissions and leave it at that?
