Spines - Dark Invention Origin Guide
If you are interested primarily in +Recovery bonuses, might I suggest using 2 enhancements from the Tempered Readiness set instead? That set offers a +1.5% Recovery bonus, instead of the +1% of Bruising Blow, and TR goes all the way to level 50. A small difference, but every little bit can help.
I have a spine/dark currently at 47, which I am pushing to 50 (finally!)
I wanted to see what I could do if I: tried to maximize +regen and +recovery bonuses, got some +tohit and +damage in the mix, and, perhaps differently, added as many procs as I could find.
Here's what I came up with:
I went an entirely different way with my spine/dark:
I'll just list the Powers and IOs/SOs/HOs and bonuses as Mid's Hero Designer is reporting them.
This doesn't include an acc/dam/recharge/etc breakdown.
Be aware, the +tohit (very good) bonuses may be (or are) being converted to accuracy (not so good) on test at this
time.
This one might be called ("+regen/+recovery/+tohit/+proc").

Procs (here's where it gets very interesting indeed):
Lunge (mako's bite +lethal)
Spine Burst (impeded swiftness +smashing, scirocco's dervish +lethal)
Death Shroud (scirocco's dervish +lethal)
Impale (trap of the hunter +lethal, devastation chance to hold)
Quills (scirocco's dervish +lethal, impeded swiftness +smashing)
Ripper (scirocco's dervish +lethal, impeded swiftness +smashing)
Throw Spines (positron's blast +energy)
Oppressive gloom (razzle dazzle chance to immobilize)
Laser Beam Eyes (devastation chance to hold, Decimation chance to buildup, entropic chaos chance to heal)
So, I already do a variety of types of damage as a spines/dark:
lethal (most), negative (death shroud), energy (LBE)
I add: smashing, more energy, a couple of chances to hold, a buildup, a heal, and more lethal.
And it gets nearly 10% def while running CoD and Hover. Not that much, but not bad at all either.
So not only have I tried to maximize set bonuses, but also get every proc that I could.
IF such a build would be feasible, it would also take an extremely long time to put together.
The procs, though, could probably be acquired fairly easily I would think, over time.
I'm also not entirely sure that the Cloak of Darkness slotting is worthwhile, but it does get me at least one Kismet and one Luck of the Gambler. It should probably have a Karma also, but of course this build eats up the slots.
Currently: 50s (5), 40s (3), 30s (5)
Red and blue side, mostly Infinity, Virtue, and Freedom.
I made a damage proc build too. I varied quite a bit from my SO build and I'm betting this build would not work when exemplared. Call this a 'Proc/all AoE' build.
Procs:
Brawl: lethal proc
Barb Swipe: smash proc, lethal proc
Death Shroud: lethal proc
Spine Burst: smash proc, lethal proc, lethal proc
Quills: smash proc, lethal proc
Dark Regen: lethal proc
Cloak of Fear: psi proc, (stun proc)
Throw Spines: energy proc, smash proc
Oppresive Gloom: (immob proc)
Soul Transfer: lethal proc
Torrent: energy proc
Petrifying Gaze: psi proc, psi proc
Tenebrous Tentacles: energy proc, lethal proc
With Death Shroud, Quills and Cloak of Fear running I have 4 procs with a 20% chance of doing extra damage.
I've only taken AoE powers in the build after barb swipe, so this build REALLY kicks out the AoE dmg at the cost of single-target punch.
I highly, highly recommend pasting the data chunk into Mid's as it gives a much better picture of the enhancement of each power and it also gives totals for resistance. defense and the rest.
After the IO set build, I included my SO build for comparison.

I'm still confused about these damage procs. Just how much damage do they do? I can't figure out the trade-offs. If you are giving up accuracy in order to fit in a damage proc, are you sure that your overall damage is going up?

Question: Can two or more procs happen at once (ex: a lethal and a smashing one in Quills)?
TW/Elec Optimization
They do "some extra". I'd have to check but it's a decent amount, noticeable (if you happen to have "Healing Received" in your text window).
It's probably about the same as they added to AR's Sniper Rifle with Targeting Drone running, which, IIRC, is about 70 damage. Something like that.
And I for one didn't give up accuracy to fit in more slots, but then I also run Focused Accuracy.
Currently: 50s (5), 40s (3), 30s (5)
Red and blue side, mostly Infinity, Virtue, and Freedom.
Sure. They are each checked separately with each attack as I understand it.

they only go off once every 10 seconds though in a toggle. I did the damage calculations and in some cases like spine burst, having the dam/recharge would make you do more damage over time than having the proc for damage.
Liberty
My 50s:
Hero: Armor Assassin (scrapper), Cross Dresser (scrapper), Surly Seaman (blaster), Defensive End (Tank), Rad Rhino (Cont)
Villain: Beast Infection (Corr), Sweet Zombie Jesus (MM), Milk Weasel (Stalker), Orgullo (MM), Agent Eris (Crab)
Yeah - I got a razzle dazzle chance for immobilize and tossed it into OG - but it hasn't seemed to do anything.
I really wish there'd be some animation that plays when a proc works.

well, since there's no animation maybe they are immob'd and you just can't tell

Yeah, hard to tell unless I set up a tab especially for "Healing Received" - since the damage from Quills/Death Shroud / attacks make it nearly impossible to see when "immobilized" comes across (it scrolls way too fast).
Which is why an animation would be helpful.

Spine Dark Invention Guide
With the advent of Invention Origin Enhancements, I started looking at what it will mean to a spines/dark scrapper. I have always loved this AoE monster, but the endurance issues have prevented me from really enjoying what they can do. I have played Spines and Dark individually for quite some time and thought I would try to write a guide looking at the synergy and opportunities for this AT now that Inventions have gone live.
Since one of the key issues facing a spines/dark is endurance, I am looking at every power in the sets as well as pool powers to help with endurance issues. The set selections are based on giving you the most endurance recovery possible while attempting to maintain the damage output on your bread and butter attacks and keeping your defensive slotting so that you can stay alive.
This guide is not set up to explain all of the powers and what they do, only what I see as optimal slotting as far as attempting to recovery as much endurance as possible. There are plenty of other guides that deal with Spine and Dark separately as well as one or two that deal with Spines/Dark.
In each power set below I will give you the suggested primary set (to get your recovery) and any additional set recommendations. The first set listed on each power is there to give you your Recovery bonus. The additional sets are to finish out buffing your Acc, Dmg, End, and Rchg as well as give you other bonuses like Max Health or Regen. I will sometimes list two sets to choose from to give you an option for the lower level builds and one for the higher level builds. In this section I am not going into which powers you would want, I leave that up to you. I am simply trying to offer an analysis of what will work.

Ancillary Powers too many personal tastes go into these powers so I am only going to gloss over the possibilities
Body Mastery Conserve Power is a great help for your endurance cost but other choices have issues Focused Accuracy helps hit things but does cost extra End which you are trying to save.
Darkness Mastery Several possibilities here including a Hold/Range/Ranged AoE & Imobilize
Weapon Mastery Several possibilities here also including a Ranged/Slow/Ranged AoE

Since you can't get the bonuses of all of your sets immediately - because you have to wait until you level and acquire the needed slots, recipie and salvage, I highly recommmend you slot those things that will give you what you need for the moment. On a spines/dark build endurance is always an issue. That being said, I would be sure to slot your power with the minimum slots/IOs you need to get the recovery bonus while you work your toon up the levels. I will see about putting together a leveling guide for this build, but that will have to follow later.
