Are you an everyday Joe (or Joan) that doesnt want to be bugged by the numbers being thrown around with invention enhancement sets , but still would like to know what theyre about? This guides going to try to explain the most complicated Invention Enhancements, the "SET" Invention Enhancements. Ill try to cover what you need to know, without boring you. (Or confuzzling ya, if thats what invention info has done before)
Invention Origin Enhancements, (shortened to IOs) are a totally new way of making your powers better. You dont have to get them, but they give good enough benefits that everyone should consider them. The more complicated Invention Enhancements are called Set IOs; Ill talk to you about them, and a simple way of how they work, but first let me talk about how all Invention Enhancements work.

The basics of IOs:

<ul type="square">[*]You have to make, or invent Invention Enhancements. You cant buy them at a store or get them right from beating a boss. You make them at the University, where youll be taught about all this.
[*]Invention Origin Enhancements (IOs) dont go Bad! Theyll always work, no matter how many times you level up, theyre still good. If you make one at level ten, it will still work at 50. Cool, huh?
[*]IOs get better with levels. At level 10, the IO's you can make and use will be a little weak. At 50, the IO's you can use will be awesome.
[*] Invention enhancements can be slotted when they're way lower than your level. A 50 can put a level 25 IO into their powers if they want to. The reverse ain't true, though. You can only use an IO if it's under three levels higher, like normal enhancements work. Remember, though: the higher an IO is in level, the stronger it is. A 50 can use a level 10 IO, but it will help him just about as much as a Training enhancement.
[*]To make IOs youll need two things: materials to make the invention, (called salvage) and directions to make the salvage. (A recipe.) Salvage and recipes will be found by defeating enemies, or by buying or trading them from other players whove found them.
[*]The university has some directions (recipes) on hand, but not all of them.
[*]Both the materials and the directions you use to make an IO enhancement are used up when you make an IO. You have to find more materials and a new set of directions to make another.[/list]
Heroes can use Wentworths and villains can use black markets to see what Inventions stuff other players are selling, or to sell stuff that youve found.

Set IOs

The university can be used to make basic IOs, but more complicated IO recipes can be found as you fight your enemies, finish missions, or complete task forces and such. These are Set IOs. They dont just enhance your powers, they give you a bonus on top! Using them is sort of like a collecting game, so it has its own rules.
The Basics rules of the IO sets, and how they work:
<ul type="square">[*]IO sets are Invention enhancers that go together, with the same name. For instance, on set is named Touch of Death. The enhancers in a set do different things, but they all have the same set title.
[*]IO sets work like good enhancements in what they enhance: damage set IOs help your damage. Damage/accuracy set IOs help damage and accuracy, just like they say. (More on Enhancers that help more than one thing later.) So knowing what enhancers do is no harder than reading their descriptions! This seems a no-brainer, but Dont confuse what an enhancer itself does with the bonus a set gives. (Ill explain in a sec.)
[*]IO sets have levels. If a set is 10-30, you'll have a chance of getting it from enemies or from finishing missions as long as you are between those levels. If your character were level 19, he wouldn't get recipes for a 20-50 set until he reached level 20. Don't be afraid, though. You can still buy or trade for lower set enhancers and use them. Remember that all low IO's can still be slotted.
[*]IO sets only work in certain powers. One set helps healing powers, so you cant put it into you shooting powers and make them heal you. This is a lot like normal enhancements, where you cant put a healing enhancers in non-healing powers. One big difference: There are new kinds of damage set enhancers, like shooting enhancers, that can only be put in that kind of attack. Does that make sense?
(Note: this doesnt mean you can only use one kind of set in a power. A slowing ranged attack can take Set IOs from shooting sets and slowing sets.
[*]Some set IO enhancements are Unique. This means, theyre so strong, you can only use the enhancement once in one power in you character. For instance: one unique Set IO can give armor to all pets around you. This can't be used more than once, or masterminds would really go to town, hence the limit. Bummer, I know, but Unique enhancements are still really good.
[*]Some IOs enhance more than one thing. One IO can give you both damage, and accuracy! Cool, huh? Keep this in mind, though: the more things the enhancements work on, the weaker the individual effects are. A damage, accuracy, recharge IO will give you less damage than an only damage IO, but if you add up how much it's helping you with all the effects, you're much better off with the sweet multi-enhancer.
[*] You cant use the same IO from a set a bunch of times in one power. Just once. Cmon, dont be greedy! If a set IO enhancement helps your accuracy and damage, you cant put six of it into the same attack power. Sounds fun, maybe, but a little cheap.
[*]Some set IO enhancements are wierd in that they give a power a chance to do something new, rather than giving a normal enhancing effect. One might give a power a chance to do lethal damage. This means, that if you use this power, it just might cut an enemy a little bit. The chance is like the game rolls some dice to decide if the effect will happen. Its random. The effects can only happen once every 10 seconds, though, even f they work in a toggle power. Remember: these effects only happen when you use the power the enhancer is in. Its not a bonus.
Set Bonuses!
[*]IO sets give bonuses when put in the same power, on top of what they enhance. The more from a set you put in a power, the more bonuses you get! These bonuses work not just for the power you have a set of set IOs in, but for all the powers your character uses! So the more set IOs the better! (Insert Gotta catch em all! reference. )
[*]Bonuses are for you! Even if the power effects are only given to a friend, (like speed boost or aid other) the bonuses will be applied to you when you use it!
[*] Bonuses are tied to the IO sets in their slots. As such, if you exemplar/malefactor down below the level you have access to a power and/or its slots, you loose the set Bonuses that they would have given you.
[*]IO bonuses stack up for your sets! So if you got a bonus bit of accuracy from collecting and using two of a set in a power, and faster recharge from using three, youll get both the accuracy bonus and the recharge bonus from using the three enhancements!
[*]You can grab the exact same bonus up to 5 times on your character, but no more. So if you find a cool set that gives you a bit more attack, you can't use more of the same set in every power it'll fit in and expect to get the same bonus 200 different times, and get a bonus 3000% damage. Okay, okay, Im exaggerating, but you get the point. Dont get greedy on your bonuses, the exact same bonus from the same set will only work for you 5 times. Also, if two sets different sets give the same high attack bonuses the 5 time limit still applies to both sets, because the other set is trying to give the same bonus. If you find another set that gives a weaker attack bonus, though, you can stack that with the first one.
[*]IO bonuses work according to what power you put them in.
Examples:
>If you put them into a power thats always on, your bonus is always on!
>If you put something into a toggle, like an armor power or something, the bonus will turn off when that toggle goes off. So put those IOs in powers you keep on, to keep those nifty bonuses
>Putting an IO into a power you have to click, like an attack or something will give you the bonus, but only when you actually use the power. And don't worry, long recharging powers will still have the bonuses. Bonuses last a long while after a power is used; just make sure you put set IO's in click powers you do use or the bonus won't do you much good. For instance: a snipe power IO set can give you extra health. The health will stick with you for a little while, but if you don't touch your snipe for a whole mission, the health bonus will go away. (Until you use the thing again.)
I tried to avoid numbers, but just to be clear, bonuses last two minutes after the power with the set in it finishes.[/list]

Im just giving you an easy way to compare what kind of bonuses are available. Check that link for more when youve got an idea what sets you want to collect.
Remember: the key to using IO sets is to look at which set works in your powers, then choosing the bonuses that you think are best for you!
You can always mix sets to get fun effects too. (like using 2 from one set to get the double enhancer bonus, then 4 from another set to get the four IO bonuses.) Bonuses are not that big, but when you can get 5 of a kind, theyll help you a lot.
