Throw That Flame!- A Fire Blast Guide

I have been looking to create a guide to Fire Blast Blasters, and never had time to write a big fancy guide. So I decided to write a summarized guide!

First of all, here is a quick run-through of the powers.

Flares- Available level 1. I have seen many people say not to take this due to the long animation and low damage. I personally find it good as a filler while other attacks recharge, but it's worth taking in the late 20s or 30s. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 recharge.

Fire Blast- Available level 1. A great single target power. Take this at level 1. Good range, quick animation, good damage. Great for your attack chain. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 recharge

Fire Ball- Available level 2. One of the best powers of the set. A single target AoE attack. I highly recommend this, as it is great for any multi-enemy group. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 recharge or 1 endurance reduction

Rain of Fire- Available level 6. I highly, highly recommend skipping this. I find this a very hard power to use. You will find use in it maybe every 15 missions you do. Low damage, scatters enemies. Can be fixed with Ice Patch, Controller's AoE immobilize, and a few other powers. I can't even tell you what it's worth slotting.

Fire Breath- Available level 8. Another great power. A cone of fire damage. Another great power, basically the same usefulness as Fire Ball. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 recharge or 1 endurance reduction

Aim- Available level 12. Another good power. I didn't take it until my 20s in a respec, and I really love it. 3 seconds of added damage and even more accuracy. 80% accuracy bonus, 50% damage? Something similar to that. Recommended slotting- 2-3 ToHit, 2-3 recharge

Blaze- Available level 18. Basically the best power of the set. TAKE THIS POWER!! The only problem I can find is the range, which can be enhanced. Use this power to deal massive damage. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 2-3 damage, 1 recharge, 1 range if used 2 damage

Blazing Bolt- Available level 26. This is a very long range sniper attack. It deals awesome damage and is great for pulling far away enemies. Recommended slotting- 2 accuracy, 2 damage, 1 range

Inferno- Available level 32. The power you've been waiting for- your nuke. Definately take this. You explorde in fire, and lose all of your endurance, although you do massive damage to all enemies around you. Also does DoT damage afterward, I believe 5 ticks. Recommended slotting- 1 accuracy(if you use Aim before nuke), 3 damage, 2 recharge

Please remember that all perecentages and Inferno DoT ticks are ESTIMATES. I believe they are correct, but I am not completely sure. I will edit when I find the exact numbers.

My favorite attack chain of *just fire blast powers* is-
Aim -> Fire Breath -> Fire Ball -> Blaze -> Fire Blast -> Flares

Pool Powers-
Fitness- Definately take this. You're going to get good use of Health and Stamina
Flight- A good option for a travel power
Speed- Great to get for Hasten, I always leave it on auto. Also an option for travel if you take super speed
Leaping- My preference for travel. Compat Jumping for defence, Super Jump for traveling, and Scrobatics for resistance to Knockback and Hold

Any other pool powers depend on personal preference.

Epic Power Sets-
Unfortunately, I do not currently have much detail. I am still working on this section.

Hmm. Rain of Fire + Tar Patch= LOTS of crispy critters. ROF is an AWESOME power.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

O RLY?

I'd think that a given power is good when used with another given power.

Btw, Camo, well-written guide, a short discussion on synergies with blaster secondaries could make it better (for a small time investment).

Well, when I wrote this guide, I tried to apply synergy to using JUST Fire Blast power sets with pool powers. After I finish with the epic section, I may touch upon secondaries in the end.

The secondary synergies summary might be better first, as you get your epics at lv 41, as opposed to your secondaries, which are gained at um... level 1.

True. I also have more experience with secondaries. Anyways, how do I get this on the guide list of blaster guides?

Put up a post on the "Guide to Guides" thread

After a day or 2 it still hasn't gone on the list. What should I do?

Rain of Fire is SUPERIOR when used correctly. I use it all the time!

1. Tight Rooms - It is very hard for mobs to escape it.
2. After the Big AoEs - Yes, you reserve it and fire it toward the end of the battle to finish the whole mess quickly.
3. Too Much Aggro - You are in trouble, you are solo, you have attracted too much aggro because the Tank has lost it, your powers are slowed on recharge... use FIRE RAIN OF FIRE and give yourself some room! Better the mob is scattered, afraid, than focused only on you! Now you can escape, come back to fight another day.

I use RoF so often that when I respec'd out of it once I immediately missed it. I got it back the first opportunity I got.

Let me add that my 50 Fire/Fire Blaster is not a Blapper. I have no swords, NOTHING melee orientated - on purpose! Too often, growing him, I witnessed the faceplanted Blapper, yeah sure, people jump out of airplanes, they race motorcycles on city streets, they push limits of survival... what is that? Something like a Type 1 Personality? Whatever... I am not one of those. I think, I plan, I like TACTICS! and not the Tactics of "lets run in and beat on things and hope we survive". Therefore I purposely limit myself so I do not even think about that type of foolishness.

Rain of Fire is one of my favorite weapons and I use it often!

I am Airman America... Super Hero... and I approve this message!

What about these tactics:

1) Get buffs from defenders/controllers/purple inspirations
2) Let Tank get aggro and/or Controller lock down enemies
3) Run in and use melee AoE attacks with relative safety because they do more damage than ranged AoE attacks.

Works for me.

That said, I fully agree with your RoF tactics. Nice!

I'll edit the Rain of Fire info when I get a chance later..thanks for giving some info on it, I've always had problems getting it to work efficiently.

I am having some problems...It won't let me edit the first post. I'll try again later to edit the Rain of Fire description.

I stopped reading after this.

ROF is a decent power for the previously mentioned flee effect.

but when combine with caltrops from the Devices secondary it holds them in place long enough to get major blasts(fireball, fire breath) underway

Any thoughts on "aim" Versus "targeting drone" for accuracy sake?

Once I can get this stupid edit working, I'm going to change the info for Rain of Fire. And also, I meant for this guide to not touch upon any seocndary information.

When running with all fire/* corrupters superteams earlier in the year, I found myself using RoF much much more than inferno for melting groups.

I was fire/kin corrupter, but I also teamed with fire/darks a lot. Not much better than seeing a tar patch at the corner, pulled groups get stuck on it, running in, fulcrum shifting the group, hit RoF. Wow! Also, others started doing this as well. It almost made me want to respec out of inferno to pick up another power, since I was so rarely using it, but I kept inferno for that odd time when we'd be overwhelmed, and I'd already fired off RoF, and needed to get them away or dead.

I'd say I used 1 inferno for ever 15 or 20 times I used RoF.

Of course, on a blaster side, it's not quite the same. Ice Patch can help with holding them in place, but I would quickly miss the fulcrum shifting. Build-up + Aim + Assualt + pop some reds might come close.

Well, seems the main point of my guide was "thrown out the window". The main purpose was to describe the powers with absolutely no reference to any secondaries. I'm gonna redo the majority of it to make it much, much longer with a little different information. I'll work on it when I have time.
