Weird but cool graphics
The negative thing has happened to me, too.
Yeah, it usually blipped in and out like that for me, too. I just wrote it off as a side effect of having such a white landscape. Plus, the shadowy look helps the feeling of drearyness you get from the area

Almost every time you go into the caves, outside changes like that. It's pretty cool.
There's a similar effect that happens to the colors in Dark Astoria, at just the right angle to the war walls - sometimes they flash 'un-reverse' but the rest of the colors are the same for DA, so it's this really pretty 'starfield' looking thing.

Far as I can tell, this is a side effect of having a map within a map. I only notice this effect when some members of the team are in the caves, and some members are not. I am thinking it is a bug that loads up the environment settings for the caves for the entire map the moment some one enters them.
I have noticed negative land goes back to normal when all the team members are on the surface as well. Probably loads up the original environments when the person who initially entered the caves exit again.
I can see forever 0.0
My experience was that it only happened after I joined a team where it was happening to the leader already. Before that, whether alone or on a team, it was normal. (And I'd done the mission a good 20+ times on various alts.) It happened once the Winter Guard was defeated for the key, prior to anyone going into the cave.

But...
There is, unseen by most, an underworld,
a place that is just as real,
but not as brightly lit...
A DARKSIDE.

All considered... I think it is also related to the fog effect.
Orc&Pie No.53230 There is an orc, and somehow, he got a pie. And you are hungry.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
I had thought this was an intentional effect. Whenever I ran these missions (and I ran a lot of them) whenever anyone entered the cave the graphics would change. When Snaptooth was killed and the baby rescued the graphics would change back.
I had also thought it to be intentional. It seemed to have been done for dramatic effect.
I only noticed it after we had gotten the key. One time it happened RIGHT when the key was found. A kinda 'dun dun DUN!' effect, that now the stakes were raised and you were on a time crunch, even though you weren't and the stakes were pretty much the same as before.
It's one of those glitches that, whether intentional or accidental, the Devs should pretend it was intentional. A 'cat walking into a patio door' kinda thing. They meant to do that.
I thought it was pretty cool. Like when I see Khelds floating in the air standing up like Magneto - COOL! Some glitches they really shouldn't have to fix.
Reminds me of what Frodo seen when he put the ring on in LOTR
So last night I was taking my latest alt through the Father Time missions, and the first couple were fine. Then I hooked up with a team where the leader was having some odd graphical glitch during the mission, as soon as Winter Guard was defeated and he got the key. It somehow affected me after that, as well. It was strange, but at the same time quite cool.
Welcome to Negative Land.
