Writing for Comics books?
Writing for Comic Books, by Alan Moore
Ta da!
(for the record I haven't read this book but when I spoke to writers at the conventions, they all recommended this. When I began writing my scripts, I drew on alot of what I learned from martial arts study, movie choreography, and well, comic books I've read)
A lot of the time when I asked editors and writers at the San Diego con about getting into the writing side of things they have absolutely no consistant answers. Some guys write detailed novellas including all the camera angles and page layouts, while others are quite vague and leave almost everything but the dialog and general actions to the artists.
Myself, I equate writing a comic to writing a movie script. I describe every character once, the settings once, and then go for angles, panel size or orientation, and action. Important details that cannot be skipped, that kind of thing.
Everyone does it different.
Just never, EVER ask how to become an EDITOR of comics. That... will get you nowhere. *sigh*.
Please read my FEAR/Portal/HalfLife Fan Fiction!
Repurposed
This one : "Panel One: Comic Book Scripts by Top Writers" shows original comic book scripts and the different styles of the featured writers.
This DC one : "The Dc Comics Guide to Writing Comics" is good for story-telling basics in comics.
These are the only two I've read but there are links to others on the amazon.com pages.
Just wondering if anyone had some feedback on books on writing for comics?
Anyone have a suggestion, title, etc.?
Thanks!
