A guide to giving your landlord the shaft!

A guide to giving your landlord the shaft, or avoiding the rent trap while still maintaining a usable base.

Rent, we all hate it but non-the less we have to pay it if we want to maintain our bases functionality.

Rent is based on the total earned prestige of your super group, the amount you pay is based on a sliding scale of percentages so the more you have the greater percent of your total prestige you have to pay every two weeks (this may have changed in i8 but I have yet find this out for my self).

Thats right rent is due once every two weeks, or so the developers would like you to believe. However the reality is that you can bypass this two-week travesty and get away with paying much less rent and this is what this guide will show.

First everyone needs to understand that rent dose not accumulate nor do you incur late fees or penalties for not paying rent. Also it’s important to know that rent periods are based on rigid two-week blocks of time.

If you were to pay rent based on the plan the developers felt you should you would log in one day and see in your SG’s message of the day that you owe X amount of prestige due on X day at X time. Seeing this you would rush off to the SG resistor and pay your owed rent. The message would go away and the day and time that your rent would have been due comes and goes, (all is well and your happy) then the next time you log on you see a message that your rent is again due, just two weeks after the date that your last rent was due.

Length of time between rent payments 2 weeks

So you ask what lesson should I be learning here?
1. If you pay your rent early you never reset your rent timer and are never able to take advantage of these rigid two-week blocks of time

2. Never pay your rent before it’s due.

Now you can continue to pay rent ever two weeks or you can instead choose to shaft the landlord.

Level one: “the check is in the mail”

This is for the super group that has a fully functional base with med bays and zone teleporters that get lots of use and you’re unwilling to go with out these items.

First thing you need to do is reset your rent timer, remember I told you that rent periods are based on two week blocks of time. If you are now getting the message that rent is due on such and such day want until at lest one minute has passed beyond the date and time that rent was due, once you do this you are now in a new two week block.

After paying your rwnt you will have two weeks without seeing the “Rent is due” message, once it dose show up again it will give you a date and time two weeks in the future. Let this due date come and go, you now have two more weeks before any action is taken; this is the “Check is in the mail” time. Once those two weeks have passed your bases power will be shut off and you will loss the use of your med bays and teleporters. Once the power is shut off, but not one minute before go and pay your rent, and the six-week cycle will begin again.

Length of time between rent payments 6 weeks

Level two: “We don’t need no stinking lights!”

If your SG is a smaller group with out a med bay or zone teleporters or maybe you don’t use these items much and you can live with out them for a time, then you can engage in shafting your landlord level two. Follow the above plan for the first six weeks, when they turn off your power all they are in affect doing is turning off your use of controlled items; your base is still assessable and lit. You can continue to use your base for roll play and as a group meeting place. You will have another two weeks of base use before your cut off from your base all together.

Length of time between rent payments 8 weeks

Level 3: “Come and get it if you can!”
I also call this the rebuilding period.

If you find your group is truly strapped for “Cash” you can let your rent go for longer then 8 weeks, but after the 8th week access to your base is cut off. From this day on the rent due timer has stopped, the rent you owe remains forever the same until the time comes that you do pay it. This time could be used to rebuild a dead or dieing super group or just to build up a large amount of prestige for a needed base upgrade with out having to pay rent for the 12 to however many weeks it takes your group to earn that much prestige.

Once your ready to again start paying rent you can pay the owed amount and start the above 6 to 8 weeks cycle over again (Just remember is you earned a lot of prestige in that time your next rent payment will be much higher). Your base will still be there and rent that would have been incurred never dose.

So in summery you do not ever need to pay rent more then once every 6 weeks and you can wait as long as forever to pay rent if you don’t mind losing use of your base.

I hope you find this small guide somewhat useful

Funniest guide I've read in a long time. Thanks. And I will be forwarding the linky to the guy that usually pays our base rent.

I understand the 6wk cycle Shaft but what about the sliding % you mentioned. Would it not be possible to somehow buy items in your base right before paying your rent thus lowering next cycle's rent?

no, your rent is based on your total prestige, all that is in your base and all that you have saved up.

The Devs specifically made Rent based on total Prestige in order to stop people from selling almost everything in their base right before paying rent. But apparently they couldn't find a forgiving yet non-exploitable way to collect rent after it's due.

Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

Has anyone tested if the % scale goes down to compensate those members that left the SG? Those with very high perstige acumulated leaving. When members quit and rejoin their count is reset to zero. Would this affect the scale?

none, as earned prestige was never that heroes. When a hero earns prestige is goes to the SG and stays there, the personal prestige number is there only to help leaders know how active in SG mode a hero is.

Ahhh I see it's the total prestige and the worth of all items and rooms in the base. Makes sense!

Of course, you do know that any base with the power shut off can be bought by another supergroup willing to pay the back rent, right? No? Well, I guess that might be because it isn't true. But it could be one day!

Really though, how bad is base rent? Maybe it's harsh on the expensive bases but our modest little SG base with a bunch of teleporters and a little med bay sure doesn't cost much. I think we could stop playing in SG mode for six months and, even paying rent right on time, we would never have to sell anything.
