Roleplaying the Good guy
I enjoy roleplaying the good guys because I'm a goodie-two-shoes and have always dreamed about being a superhero that people like and punches the bad guy while cheesy action music plays in the background FOR GREAT JUSTICE.
I find it to be a more character thing, for me. I wouldn't say I'm perfect, but I'm definately a goodie-goodie, so I've never been able to play a villain--I despised them all, because they WERE evil, and I hate evil. The closest I've come is Kairaishi, but he's a neutral with good tendencies.
I understand your dilema. I too, much prefer RPing villains than heroes. The best suggestion I can offer you is to think up some silly cliche that you think is funny and then make a hero off of it. Either that or just have one of your villains pretending to be a hero in order to figure out the other side.
That's all I can suggest. Good luck.
Statesman said let there be heroes, and there were heroes.
Lord Recluse said let there be villains, and there were villains.
NCsoft said let there be nothing, and there was nothing.
I think the biggest problem i have had playing heros is the fact that you can't really ignore crys for help, you going throught the map and like there is Cry for help can you really justify ignoring it so you can go get a badge or something? Really how much of hero can you be. I always having to stop and save people.

The Resistance has boobs too, and better hair!
I used to have the exact same problem. I used to try to use heroes, I had an Angel themed character. Two days later he was a "fallen" angel.
My solution was to simply stick with what I do best. Evil theme and villains. If you find that you have lots of creativity and skill when RPing the bad guy, then by all freaking means, RP the bad guy.
I see, I see. Well then, I suppose I'll just continue to be the villain. Someone earlier spoke of cries for help and well.. I gain much more enjoyment out of leaving them or going to destroy who caused the problem annnd then killing the victim as well. Maybe i'm a bad person, but hell if it isnt fun.
I'm too much of a dirty harry type to play a goody-two-shoes hero, so I always end up somewhere in the middle. Even my villains are fairly good much of the time, it's just they're more willing to cross lines to get what they want.
Besides, hard to be truly heroic when you fight with a sword. It's amazing my scrapper wasn't locked up before getting to level 5 for all those Hellions he slaughtered in Atlas Park.
Murder is not only allowed for heroes, but condoned.
Much to my chagrin and loathing, but, well, what're you gonna do?
Technically Heroes "arrest" them...
By setting them on fire, draining thier souls, electrocuting them, irradating them, stabbing them with sharp ice, cutting them with sharp objects, crushing them with gravity, driving them mad with illusions, shooting them with 100% lethal weaponry, exploding, imploding, and a combination of those two, and of course, shoving them off cliffs and buildings. All to "arrest" them in a non-lethal fassion.
Well the "arrest tags" used to send the criminals to the Zig are supposed to drop 'em in the medical wing where any injuries are treated. Hey, if my Natural marial artist can be "fixed" after getting stepped on by a lumbering pile of boulders, I'll believe a Hellion can be saved from a bit of sword evisceration.
As for RPing good guys.....
I usually keep my heroes interesting (for myself at least) by stepping back and examining the character beyond what I've written about them. Without knowing your RP style all I can suggest is to really try and see what makes these characters tick.
It's all well and good to say "my hero is motivated by the death of a loved one", but go beyond that. How does your hero view him/herself? How do others view them? Just because a character is a hero doesn't mean they can't be as misunderstood as a villain.
Another thing you could try is to not reveal everything about your hero upfront. Leave some mystery and try to bring it up in the context of the RP. For example, I have a superspeeder who's concept is pretty straight forward. Cocky, mutant hero out for fame and women. Then it's revealed he was adopted and there are no records of his real parents. THEN someone who looks remarkably like him with similar powers shows up. Suddenly you've got a whole new facet to your hero to explore. How does this usually shallow guy handle this kind of situation. Maybe since your heroes often turn villain, try switching THAT up. A violent anti-hero who suddenly finds that they can't kill anymore, either through divine-intervention or maybe crazy alien implants, who knows?
The only real way is to keep practising at it. Try picking out some of your more heroic villains and try to decide just what aspects of their GOOD side you find most interesting and work from there.
I RP a good number of both heroes and villains and both are a blast to fool around with.
I enjoy role playing the good people, I guess that is because it fits me and I enjoy being good.
I can also roleplay a bad person, but I have to stress at it and I make dumb remarks; but nobody said bad people are not dumb.
When I play a good person I usually end up playing a Pollyanna; I view everything through rose colored glasses and to me evil is a disease that can be cured. One thing I really like about COH/COV is nobody really dies; they are all sent to rehab clinics to learn to be good (until they escape that is
).
I like roleplaying the good people; I stink at roleplaying the bad people because I feel like I want to help others; not hurt them.

Hey all, i've been rping in CoV for about nine months, been rping in general for a few years. I've gotten rather good at it, i can roleplay pretty much everything and am good at coming up with stories. Heres the problem: Playing the good guy just.. isnt fun for me. I've tried playing the hero multiple times, the 'dark' hero, the pure good hero, the patriotic hero.. Nota. They all end up turning evil
I roleplay a wolfspider and he's great. So i thought, hey! Im good at rping Arachnos, why not try one of the Longbow? So I did. It worked well, but she was boring.. So I make her Zealous and see only in black and white. Before long she became evil in her own right. Grr! Make roleplaying 'good' fun for me! Is there something i'm missing? How do you guys get enjoyment out of it? I love being the schemer, the one who plots and plans how to do things.
In other words, Halp me do gewd.
