Flats

So I just laid down the flats on this, took me like a lunchbreak or two to get there. Thought I'd throw this out and see what advice I can steal... I mean, gratefully accept, when it comes to doing shadows and highlights.

It's been a looong time since I did any crayoning, and back in the day I cheated and used "dodge" and "burn" a lot which I now hate with all my soul. So yeah... lay it on me.

And thank you once again to the wonderful Toxic Shia for pencilling this for me. <3

looks pretty cool. Dodge and Burn, is not that evil! It's how you use it!

Don't be afraid to color the outline, if it's on a separate layer, you can select it and color the outline with a darker shade of whatever the flat color is.

Can't wait to see more!

Um... do you mean by using the Line tool? I'm doing the colouring free hand and the line tool scares the pants offa me ;_;

hahaha, naw, you can use the magic wand to select the outline, it'll get some of it, but not all, then go to select, select similar and it will get the rest. Then you can make a new layer and with the selection still on color the outline, hitting control H will make the marching ants invisible so you can see what you are doing.

Another way to select would be to magic wand the white area, then select similar and then inverse the selection!

You are doing this in photoshop right? forgot to check!

Yup, in Photoshop, but the lines are, I beleive, all pencil and sketchy, plus it's rather small. I think I will attempt the Line tool and see how that goes. I'm sure DA has some good tutorials.

ah, okay try this, duplicate the sketch layer, then go to images adustment levels, there are three eye droppers, one for white, black and grey, choose the white and click on anywhere on the drawing that is suppose to be white, then fiddle with the levels till you get nice dark and easy to select lines. that should make it easy to select the outline. phew.

or you could try the pen tool if you're good with bezier curves!

I soo need to learn how to do that in GIMP... I've a sketch by Quohog that has been begging for color for a year... and then there's Jim Tessier's Torch Juggler sketch too...

Blitzkrieg looks GREAT! I do so love SHia's work, and your coloring looks pretty spiff so far too!
