"Okay people... All I have to say to that is... WHY THE HELL DO I KEEP TELEPORTING?!"

[/ QUOTE ]
"Because you don't bother to listen." Acid sighed, seeming completely neutral on the subject, "I ask everyone to get up into the warehouse and what do yall do? Half of ya jump at the guys coming in while the other half decides that ticking off the troops that surrounded the whole damn building is a good thing. Oh, and let's not forget about the so excellently unmentioned self-destruct system."

"Oh great, We've been kidnapped." Damien said.

"And by some one who's rude." Darean added.

"Do forgive me." Acid mumbled back at them, "It hasn't been the best of days. And since I've got the feeling Ess' question is gonna be your next one...SENECA, what kind of pathline we got right now?"

"Oh, we're about at Bronze Way and 4th Street." a woman's voice replied over an unsen speaker system, "Give or take about fifty meters..."

((Location of Midas, Essex, Damien, Darea, John, Tam, Keegan, and Acid is about 42,000 km over Paragon right now.))

OOC: Right, right. Locations. One sec.

Acid, Midas, Essex, Cross brothers, Tam, Keegan: Paragon City proper

Moonscribe, Kefetasura, some of my guys: Near Paragon City

Rosie, Cortianna, Engine: Main Rebel Base, European Operations, random city near New Mu

Thuel, Lyden, the bird guy: Country town, Baltic coastline

I think it's the Baltic coastline anyway. Back to the story.

BIC: The claws gouged deep into the Ivory Engine's armor, tearing long furrows that almost reached into the more sensitive components underneath. The Engine relied mostly on its speed and stealth to avoid taking damage and was thus fairly annoyed that Rosie seemed almost as fast.

The ivory colored blade pivoted and stabbed down while the Engine twisted away, turning its back to Rosie as it dragged its sword along her flesh until the robot was completely facing away from her.

*************************************************

The buttressed walls of the Hallowed Halls were empty, as they usually were, and exuded an aura of age and mystery, as they usually did. But this changed rather quickly as a monstrous presense entered one end of the Hall. Great, hooved feet plodded over the floor as some sort of twisted creature turned the corner and looked down towards the entrance to the rebel base.

Unbeknowest to the defenders, this was actually the same type of beast that had killed the two men through the wall of shadows. Two thick muscled, black furred, double jointed legs supported the main body, which in turn supported four massive arms that ended in blocky fists that clenched and unclenched almost spasmadically. This was all topped by a wolf-like head that drooled as it looked down the Hall, thick ropes of the stuff falling to splatter on the floor.

With a great snuffle and low growl, the beast resumed walking forward between the butresses and pillars that framed the long Hall. As it passed, previously hidden runic lines began glowing, becoming lined with white fire as they were activated. A line of runes carved into the back of the monster glowed bright red in response, but quickly failed under the combined might of Rosie's spells. The wolf beast howled in pain and anger as its life was forcibly ejected from its body and the empty husk fell to the floor, eyes already dim and unseeing.

The fire team of rebels that arrived to make sure the Hall was secure gaped at the giant beast and wondered how much damage that thing would have done had the Commander's spells not stopped it.

"What the hell is that thing?" one of the younger soldiers asked, his voice quavering.

"Some sort of damn-" began the team sergeant as he holstered his two pistols.

"-wolf," interuppted a man wearing a heavy medieval helmet. "It looks like a damn mutant wolf."

"A Damnwolf sounds kind of cool," the soldier said in an attempt to make a joke.

"Someone go and tell everyone that the Hallowed Hall is clear," the sergeant said. "And tell them to watch out for more of these...Damnwolves."

************************************************

"Hmmm... A rescue mission, eh?" said the old man as he looked up from the thick, leathery tome he was reading at his rickety looking wooden desk. "Details up to me, eh? Sounds about right. Go tell the Commander that I'll have a plan and a team assembled within the hour."

The rebel scurried off, but not before casting an eye at the large pile of junk taking up half the medium sized room that the old man called his home. Some of the guys said that the old man made his robots out of that junk, but he had never believed it. Guess he would never find out now.

As the rebel finally left to carry his message to Moonscribe, the Dark Animator grinned slightly and closed his book with a thump. Sliding the book into a drawer and then closing and locking that drawer, the old former-villain got up and walked over to the junk heap. Clapping his hands once, a weak burst of dark magic radiated from his palms and into the pile. Another clap brought about a stronger burst and another and another. Finally he had reached the required level of power and turned toward focusing that.

Six shadowy figures grew into existence at the edge of Animator's sight. One by one, the nearly invisible shapes dove into the pile of junk until they were all inside and at work. Soon, a rusting battle drone made of ill-fitting and sometimes completely wrong parts pulled itself out of the tangle; seemingly held together by nothing more prayer, the drone was actually as sturdy as one of its normal bretheren.

A loud clanging and clattering arose as the other five robots pushed themselves free of the junk pile, the shadow spirits bound into them having chosen parts that were deeper down in the pile for a change. Soon, the Dark Animator's own little squad of robotic golems was awaiting his command.

"One of you go and find Wielder," the old man said. "Have him gather up five other well-trained and trusted men. Inform him that we are going to the rescue of several renegade metahumans. That should get him moving quickly enough."

One of the drone golems nodded and dashed out of the door, intent on nothing else but its mission.

"For the rest of you, chill," Animator said with a slight smile. "It will take some planning to organize this kind of operation."

Ah, it was indeed a good day to have spies in the ranks of the Overmagus' government.

Rosie barely had time to dodge out of the way, resulting in a deep cut right across her waist.

"Ggh!" she growled with a sort of choking sound as her blood liberally sloshed down the white blade. "You're gonna [censored] pay for that, you [censored] tin soldier."

As the Ivory Engine's back was now to the were-human, she whirled and plunged her left claw directly at its midsection, aiming to hold it in place or at least grab onto it while her right claw went for a particularly damaging blow to its arm joint controlling the sword, aggressively attacking the couplings and finely honed machinery that made up the assassin.

"Oh yes, how could we all have followed your instructions so terribly when you had set them out for us so plainly and clearly?" Midas asked sarcastically. "God knows I was expecting you to teleport us onto a spaceship!"

Midas wasn't impressed enough to bother to look around much. He was sure it was filled with technological marvels of all sorts, but for perhaps the first time in his life he didn't care and had no interest whatsoever. Where was the point in research when your entire life is a lie?

Midas put an arm around Essex consolingly as he dropped to his knees, looking at her carefully. That rune was so peculiar. Where did this little girl come from?

"I'm sure I could take you back to your father if you'd tell us who he is." the scientist said. "We're out of danger now, I believe. It wouldn't be much trouble for this ship to teleport you to your home again."

"The Purple Knight always triumphs!" Schizo yelled as he split in two, but not from the sword; it was some sick form of dodging. His two halves stayed seperate, each with its own head, and they both sent bolts of telekinetic force at Mr. Stegall, while jabbering wildly. . .

"Have at you!" "Come on then!" "Just a scratch!" "It's just a flesh wound!" "COME ON, YOU LOSER!"

"Get. . .AWAY!" Hal screamed, and a torrent of searing light and brilliant flashes poured at the advancing golems as Hallucinogen drew on every drop of hope he still had. . .

(( XP Yeah you kinda did. Khell, is New Mu in Europe? Im going to assume that it is, in this post.))

Thuel and the patrol from New Mu kept walking down the desolate country road with Boris in the transport craft, looking for a way out. They reached Thuels point, they kept moveing with out saying goodbye to Thuel as he walked back to town, sliently.

He got back to town, the population of the town was assembled in the town square, where a Steel Army trooper was takeing names from a group of people who knew someone in the Underground. He could make out a few screams of terror when a negbhor who just wanted revenge on his negbhor for stealing a plate from him, falsely turned him as a Underground Agent.

Thuel walked around, hands behind his back stepping silently on the scorched marble and cobblestone town square, there was a granite statue of a man on a horse in the middle of the square, he kept walking around without a sound, keeping a close tab on a few people in the croud.

Essex relaxed a bit.

She couldn't explain it...but Dr. Phillis reminded her, if only slightly, of her father. It made no sense. Her father was a magibiologist, and Midas was a roboticist...but...

"Um..." she said quietly. "...My father is Dr. Daniel West...A magibiologist. He....works on a lot of projects involving...um...the supernatural. H-he got a research grant from somewhere to pursue some....uh... very specialized subjects. My stepmother, Dr. Gretchen Fleischman-West, helps him. They don't....get along very well.... but I think it's mainly because she...um.... doesn't like me."

The girl's voice was soft and hesitant.

"...I am his daughter, but I am also his prototype. But my stepmother said I was...illegal... and needed to be destroyed. So he took me out of the lab this morning. I thought...he was going to kill me."

She reached her hand up to touch the long cut on her cheek from the bullet's path.

"...It would have...made his life easier....less dangerous, I think. But he didn't...instead, he...he told me to run away. S-so I did."

Essex trailed off at that, as if unsure of how to continue.

OOC: New Mu is indeed in Europe. In fact, it's somewhere in the middle of France.

BIC: "I'm afraid I'll have to confiscate that!" Mr. Stegall cackled as he bobbed and waved among the bolts of energy, suddenly disappearing and reappearing behind one of the halves and chopping his sword through a quick Z.

The wounded golem teettered and fell to the ground, kicking up a large cloud of dust and ash. The second golem weathered the blows and tore up a chunk of the ground to hurl at the hero.

The rest of the troops were staying out of the fight, knowing they'd hinder the effort more than help at this point.

***********************************************

But as Rosie attacked, the Engine deftly sidestepped, swung around, and cut up with its sword. The blade rebounded off of Rosie's claws, perhaps the only thing on her that could have repelled the blade, and cracked slightly.

"Congratulations," the Ivory Engine said as it faded back a few steps, hardly seeming to move its legs at all. "This target has proven qualified for Level Two."

Sliding the blade back into its hilt, the Engine crouched and then rushed Rosie, long thing blades snikking out of its wrists, and drew its hands back to stab through either side of her rib cage.

"Level two, eh? Well, well, [censored]' lol gratz to me, then." the were-human growled, taking a stance.

"Discedo Subvenio Dolor Finis!" Rosalind hissed as her claws locked with the claws of the Ivory Engine. This was not a good situation. She had already been injured and with her claws locked in its, it was hard for her to have any sort of offensive capability.

Except for her jaws.

Her canine teeth rather larger than a normal person's, she lunged forward, shredding at the Ivory Engine's faceplate with feral alacrity even as her spell began going to work...

...untying, quietly, one by one, the spells at work on the white construct. She was standing in a pool of her own blood, acting as an amplifier to the magic...

Keegan stood up slowly, still alittle dizzy after landing flat on his face and realized he was behind the two red heads whom he had followed out the window. He decided it owuld be better not to speak at all, so turned and began to wander the large room of the ship they were on.

Midas' eyes widened as Essex ended her story. How could life be so cruel to this poor girl? How could her father use her for an experiment?! He traced his finger along the cut on her cheek, nodding as he confirmed to himself that it was from a bullet. Bullet cuts and cuts from knives, swords, and shrapnel had subtle differences, but it was obvious to anyone who knew the difference. A bullet had skimmed her cheek. The cheek of a little girl!

"I'm so sorry, Essex." Midas said, wrapping the little girl in a tight hug and wondering what the hell her father had done to her.

John frowned deeply at hearing the name of the little girl's step mother. Dr. Gretchen... He had heard that before... No, he hadn't... It was familiar... But somehow, it seemed to not make any sense. He was sure he had never heard the name in his life, but... In the back of his mind...

It didn't matter. He was probably imagining things again.

"Okay, now that the drama-girl's sob story is out of the way, what is next on the agenda?"

"Yeah, sure, you've been abducted by aliens." Acid mumbled nonchalantly, "Oh boy, this sure turned into one giant mess."

"I didn't kidnap anybody." the woman's voice protested, "You just happened to get caught in the fiktive transpitter's area of effect. I didn't have time to separate out your signatures."

"Well, guess that leaves only one thing to do with 'em." Acid sighed, his eyes narrowing as he stapped towards the brothers, "I'm planning to mangle the Overhead. Care to join in?"

As the others discussed, a door at te far side of the drop bay hissed open and a four-legged creature by the name of Vern walked in...

Essex looked up at Experiment in surprise, a little hurt. She hadn't even been talking to him...and she wasn't trying to get attention. She was simply answering a question.

He sounds like Stepmother. I had better be careful...

"...I understand." she said quietly, slowly moving herself so that Midas' left leg was directly interposed between her and Experiment. "I suppose I am being self-centered again. I won't speak of such things any longer. Please accept my apology, sir."

Her grip tightened on the man's leg when Vern entered, swallowing uneasily. This was getting more and more frightening by the moment.

Keegan turned to Experiment, "Lay off, she seems like she's been through alot," he yelled across the room at him. Not paying attention to where he was walking, his only warning of the large four legged creature who walked through the door, was the sound of the metal door sliding open.

He turned after his statement and crashed face first into what was probably only the creature lower abdomen and fell on his back, "If I don't quit endin up on my [censored], I'ma have a real problem." he muttered from his place on the ground.

((Oops, I forgot we had new people here. I didn't describe Vern, did I? ))

Though Vern may have had a fleeting resemblance to the brothers, he wasn't huge at all, only about the size of a large dog, perhaps a Great Dane. And unlike both Big M and his twin, he really was a quadruped, though the clawed feet looked nimble enough to at least perform a few crude tasks.

With a pair of large leathery wings sprouting from his back, the best likeness of Vern would have been some manner of pocket-dragon, though without any horns and a tough, dark-green hide instead of layered scales. Indeed, his face looked a while lot like Acid's, and it was rumored that long ago his species had been related to the Khelari.

The dull-gray collar around Vern's neck blended well into the dark shade of green of his hide, though the azure-blue 'jewel' at its center contrasted sharply.

And though Vern wasn't large, he wasn't one to be taken lightly by any means. Keegan ended up on his rear, alright, but he'd never gotten to Vern in the first place - it was almost as if he'd run into something much larger, something invisible, hovering around the reptile.

"Ah, I see you've met Vern then." Acid couldn't help but grin at the mage's misfortune for a moment, but the smile quickly vanished as he saw Essex's reaction. He bent down to her, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Ess, you're gonna be alright now. C'mon, you can't seriously tell me you don't remember Vern...?"

"I...Ah..."

Essex's eyes widened even further as the raptor-headed lizardman with the knifelike teeth put his clawed hand on her frail, white shoulder.

The rune on her forehead blazed as she trembled, just watching Acid with wide eyes.

"Remember....Vern?" she murmured. She bit her lip, trying to steady her heart's frantic beat in her ears.

Okay...What DO I remember?
For six years...I don't...know. My mother...
Then something happened...She died...And then I...I don't know.
And then I was in the lab for I don't know how long.

But then, I was outside, too. And things happened...but they couldn't have. I'm not a robot. Were they dreams? ...But these people were in my dreams.

"...Maybe..." she said, inconclusively, her voice still very small and intimidated.

Damien and Darean stood quietly watching this drama unfold. From what they gathered this man called Acid was the leader or at least he was in charge. The toehr hitchhikers seemed to be vying for the posistion of second in charge.

Darean thought he remembered the name Essex but he couldn't place it at all. Damien on the other hand knew the guy, essex was holding onto, was Dr Midas Philis but he could't place why he knew that.

"Ok, looks like your the guy in charge." Darean said to Acid. "What's the plan and is there any chance you might be needing me and my brother?"

Damien looked Midas up and down. "Do I know from somewhere?" Damien asked.

"Ouch," the second Schizo laughed, as one of his halves was cut into ribbons. "Not half bad!" More rainbow-colored chaos blood dropped into the ground, and began to bubble. . .

"But there's more of me where that came from!" the madman cackled, and his body simply reformed out of nowhere from his second half as it turned at Mr. Stegall and fired a volley of thorns from its arms with the force of a cannon. . .

((Dunno if I explained well what he did, but it's supposed to be confusing anyways. . . And yeah, he's getting hurt A LOT. He tends not to show it. ))

"N-no!" Hal exclaimed, trying to back out of the way of the rock. . .

As the missile flew at him. . . Hal's eyes closed for a second.

No. I'm not going to die. I refuse! It's just a stupid pebble. . .

The "stupid pebble" flew at him with the force of a small bus.

I will not be bound by the laws of physics! I do not exist, and yet I am! The soul exists OUTSIDE of reality. You do not need to exist . . . to be!

And the rock simply bounced off Hallucinogen as he opened his eyes, and light shone from them, and from all over his body. He was bruised, but far from dead, and he leaped over the boulder and ran at the golem again, the Phantasm appearing again beside him to support him, light flowing from their outstretched hands.

((He toggled Temporary Invulnerability. And yes, that stuff would make more sense if Crown of Thorns had ended. . . but not much more. ))

Then we need to finish this NOW. Rosalind thought back to Cortianna. The troops need our support. I will not have any more of my men die in their own enclave.

As her spell continued to work, the were-human took a deep breath. Her eyes blazed red the next moment, and she snarled with renewed strength as her berserker instincts were allowed to take over.

This was no cause for her allies' alarm, however. Over the years, and with Cortianna's help, Rosalind had actually forced herself to control her berserking status, making her ten times more deadly than she had been before. It was like flipping a switch now - when the required conditions were in place, the were-human could let herself go wild on her opponent...but when the time came for her to back down, she could rein herself back in.

And so it was with the full force of this controlled fury that she unleashed her wrath on the Ivory Engine...

“Will you stay away from the poor girl?!” Midas hissed. “Can’t you see she’s afraid and doesn’t want a scaly freak interrogating her!? And get the animal out of this room, who knows what diseases it could give her!”

[ QUOTE ]
Damien looked Midas up and down. "Do I know from somewhere?" Damien asked.

[/ QUOTE ]

”No, I don’t [censored] know you!” the scientist replied angrily, though in the back of his mind there was a bit of recognition. Of course, there had been a bit of recognition for just about every single person he had seen today, so he was starting to believe that the feelings of familiarity were just part of his mind degrading. “How can you look at a complete stranger and ask them if you know them?!”

“You two do know each other, imbecile.” The Stone spoke up from inside the doctor’s pocket. “He’s the idiot ‘hero’ Cross Draw.”

Midas plunged his hand into his lab coat and stared at the gem fiercely, breathing hard. “If you don’t stop insulting me, I’m going to throw you into the vacuum of space! Now how do you know this man?!”

“You’d have to be more of a moron than I believed to get rid of your only chance of survival.” The Philosopher’s Stone replied. “But I can see you’re beginning to show a bit of me, so I won’t hold that against you. You met Cross Draw through his sister, Cross Circuit. She has two brothers, the other being Cross Fire, with magical abilities and is herself blessed with above average intelligence, though obviously not enough to make her own designs, as she decided to steal yours and wreak havoc with it, placing the blame for several malicious crimes on your shoulders. You tracked her down and fought her, destroyed her copies, and more than likely would have destroyed her, had it not been for the intervention of the man standing in front of you, who had come to track her down. He’s not a bad bowman. He managed to steal her away during the battle, though I never saw her again afterward. I did, of course, do research into who she was, enough to know what I’ve told you, at least.”

“I suppose I do know you, excuse me.” Midas said to Damien dryly. “It seems as if we’re mortal enemies of some kind, but you must forgive my forgetfulness.” He continued in a purely sarcastic tone.

“Ah ah ah, I answered your question, now I’d like to ask you something.” The Stone cut in from the doctor’s hand.

“No, I’m not going to give you my body!” Midas growled.

“Do you really think I have that little tact? You’ll absorb me when you realize you need me. For now, I just wanted to know something simple.” The shard of the doctor’s soul replied. “How do you know we’re in a spaceship?”

”It’s a bit obvious, don’t you think?!” Midas snapped. “We were all teleported. The online computer catches several people who weren’t meant to come, signifying great distance. We appear in a storage room that looks far more secure than my lab, which would have made for more sense to seek refuge in when we were running. Not to mention the fact that this creature is obviously alien and does not live in the city, as he would not be able to hide his heritage and would be hunted down and killed, especially considering that there is obviously more than him here, judging by his ugly pet! And, of course, he mentioned we were at a street juncture, and I doubt we would be sitting in a room like this in the middle of a street, because a transport vehicle this large wouldn’t be able to fit on the street, and there is obviously more to it than just this room!”

“Perhaps you’re more like me than I suspected.” The Stone said, pulsing. “Very good.”

“Shut up, damn you!” Midas snarled, throwing the Stone across the room.

“Oh, that was mature!” the gem shouted as it skidded across the room and up against a crate.

Midas made a fist and put his knuckles to his forehead, massaging his skull as he muttered to himself, his eyes shut tightly.

Essex reached her hand up to rest on Midas' forehead.

"..."

Closing her eyes, violet energy pulsed around her, resonating with the rune. Midas would feel a wave of comforting clarity wash through his mind like a waterfall.

Retracting her hand after a moment, the little girl scurried off to retrieve the stone. Carefully lifting it, she murmured, "I'll tell you whatever you want to know if you just wait, please. I want to know what's going on, too..."

Acid didn't say a word, though his lips quivered surpiciously. He bit his tongue - it was all he could do to not burst out laughing right then and there, both at what had already happened and what was about to.

"COMPUTER???!!!" suddenly thundered across the bay, practically shaking the air. There were few things SENECA hated more than being called a computer!

The crate the gem had slid against started making a ruckus as it split apart, folding out onto the floor to free the way for a protector bot. The mechanoid picked up the gem-Midas qithout a econd thought and headed over to the beleagured scientist, viciously shaking one Midas at the other in a severely reprimanding manner.

"How dare you call me a computer?!" the bot fumed with the woman's voice. If anyone had ever seen a robot boil over, this was it, "Why I oughta...!"

And then Acid lost it, not able to hold it in any longer. Leaning against another crate, clutching his side, he laughed until tears came to his eyes. It was even funnier because the bot didn't even reach Phillis' full height.

"Stop...hahaha...please...no more...!"
