Percy got out of his car. . . plain deep blue and relatively inexpensive, but almost frighteningly well maintained.

As he walked up to the front door of his little house in Diamond City, easily the smallest and least impressive in the entire district, though fairly impressive nonetheless, he sighed and looked up at the moon overhead.

That always calmed him down. There was something about it. . . it felt like a close friend, something that was always there when you really needed it. . .

Haha. Silly. Percy walked through the door, but glanced at the moon one last time first.

He thought, as he prepared to retire for the night, that it would really be nice, to make a difference. Yes, he was working for a powerful company on an influential project, but what would it yield? A single megalomaniac pulling the strings of the entire world? That seemed most likely to him.

Maybe if he was a hero, like those from Paragon City. . . but there were so many even of them. And yet. . . with such ambitions, was he really so much better than Tharomar himself?

. . . But what was he thinking all this for? He had a job that he enjoyed, that paid well enough. . . why did he need to change the world? Selfish, really, Percy thought as he closed his eyes, moonlight shining in through the window.

"Y... yes'sir. It's right here." Milly hurried forward and set the letter on his desk, absently looking at the other man in the room.

I watched the Matrix series too much. She thought, That guy just reminds me of Agent Smith. I wanna get out of here please.

"Is... is there anything you would like mailed at the moment sir? I can take it down if you would like. Otherwise I should get back to the mail room."

"LP is secure." A guard crackled over the main comm.

"Get to the Rail!" Vasquez cut in for any who were assigned it.

Dr. McCourd had done his rounds and it was time for the Z-chip to be completed. He hurried back to R&D and wnet to the machine. He still had to wait a few minutes, but since it was quarter to 8, he was looking forward to actually getting home at a decent hour.

Dr.McCourd pulled out the prototype chip which was the size of a plate. He placed the chip in a plastic case and carried it over to the hand-held machine that he had left on his desk. He began attatching wires to the chip. The machine lit up, the gauges flipping off the scale.

He laughed. It was an accomplishment that he would remember for a long time. As soon as he could get it converted to a micro-chip, it would be ready for Project Forecast. Since this was the backbone, he was sure things would look up for this company.

He made his way into a secure room near the lab. Inside were several appliances. He walked over to each one, and began adjusting dials on the device. The first appliance, an alarm clock, began flickering as it came on. When he directed the device away from the clock, it shut down.

He laughed again, then tested it on a microwave oven. This too turned on, once the dials were set. The last, was a computer. Dr. McCourd adjusted the dials and pressed the button on the hand-held, aiming it at the computer. It started up, instantly. He began to step back, checking the range. He was almost to the door, when the computer shut off.

"Hmm....."

Then he looked at a small archery target he had acquired, under Mr. Tharomar's direct orders. He cranked the dial to it's highest setting and aimed it at the target. A stream of electric current shot out of the device, burning a hole in the large enough to take out the center three rings of the target.

Mr. Tharomar is more dangerous than he seems.

He shut down the device, and left the room. He looked around, seeing the now empty lab, smiling. He figured when the chip was produced as a micro-chip, it would lose some of it's juice, but overall, it was still a powerful piece of electronics.

Locking up the chip in the safe, he locked his office and went home. He couldn't wait to share the news. The building seemed more peaceful this late at night. He walked over to his car, a 1985 Toyota Corolla GTS, and drove home.

Mr. D watched Milly as she entered and spoke with Mr. Tharomar. Her information continued to scroll up on his hand computer. Without changing his blank expression he saw that Milly was the daughter of a supervisor in the company. That bit of information didn’t make him happy and could cause potential complications. His job was to remove complications, not create them – Mr. Tharomar had enough to worry about without this problem growing.

Milly was clearly nervous and practically hyperventilating – that would make things easier. Mr. D walked up behind the young woman and put his hand on her shoulder in a firm but gentle manner.

“Miss, you don’t look well. Perhaps I should contact the infirmary?” He said in a voice that was as nice as he could muster. An anesthetized needle that would likely be unfelt and leave no trace protruded downward from his ring on the hand that rested on her shoulder. The small amount of drug should simply make her tired, with a mild fever. After she slept it off it would also make her forget the past 30-60 minutes.

“Please, come sit down and I will have a staff nurse come up and get you.” He tried to gently direct Milly toward the door.

"He's quite right." Tharomar agreed with Mr. D, "You look fatigued. Don't think we executives don't appreciate all the hard work our employees are putting into this company. Get some rest, we're all only human after all."

He played around with te thought of having her 'mysteriously disappear' during a routine medical experiment at the hospital, but shelved the thought again as he saw what Mr. D was up to, pressing the intercom button on his desk instead and calling up the staff nurse...

Penny looked dully at her watch as she waited outside Tharomar's office.

Six o'clock already.

Oh well, it wasn't like she was going home to anyone, she thought glumly.

Oh no. I'm going to miss my date. she mocked herself dryly. The washing machine will be so upset that I stood him up tonight. And me looking like the belle of the ball, too.

Her mind drifted to Big Falls, as it often did. She hoped her ex-boyfriend was happy. She had honestly liked him - loved him, even - but he wasn't able to handle a distance relationship with both of their schedules, and the two of them had mutually agreed to break it off.

Oh, James. she sighed to herself. I wonder what you're doing.

It had been a year and a half now, more than enough time for her to start looking for someone else - but she hadn't really felt it. She was cute, but she wasn't exactly the pretty one in the office - Irma, for one, was much more attractive than she, and there were so many of these willowy little secretarial waifs flitting around...

...She remembered what her best friend, Marie, had told her over the phone.

"Women are like apples, Pen." her friend had advised. "The best ones are near the top of the tree. A lot of guys don't want to take the effort to climb that high, because they're afraid they'll fall and get hurt. So they'll settle for the ones near the bottom, because they're easier, even if they aren't as good. So the apples near the top of the tree feel all bad because they think nobody wants 'em, when in reality they're the best of all.

"Now guys, on the other hand, are like a fine wine. They start off as grapes, and girl, a woman needs to stomp the [censored] out of them to make 'em into something decent to take to dinner."

Penny smiled to herself. That was Marie, all right. She wished her friend hadn't moved to California.

Now, she just tilted her head up, waiting for Mr. Tharomar to finish his appointment, her mind filled with nostalgia for the past.

"Mr. Creese," Clarence stood as he walked into the office, "to what do I owe the pleasure of you arriving here a day ahead of your appointed time," the question was accusatory. Thomas was on the edge. He did not appreciate schedule changes, but allowed this one because he knew, just as much as Creese knew, that this was an important meeting.

[/ QUOTE ]

“As you’re well aware, Mr. Thomas, I have a reputation in sales. I didn’t get it from sitting around waiting for things to happen. Tharomar Enterprises has a huge sales division and diverse product line with intensive technical information and proprietary secrets that need to be known by heart in order to effectively determine your clients needs and meet them. Your security and ability to adapt to change are going to directly affect my ability to make millions of dollars an hour for this company, not to mention my own paycheck.”

Creese smiled as he offered a handshake to Mr Thomas and took a seat. “So I came early to throw a wrench in your security schedule and see if you could both confirm my identity outside of your regular schedule and give me access to the information I need to be effective. From your reputation, neither one of these things will be difficult at all. It will also provide you with an opportunity that very few on the planet have ever enjoyed. I’ll be working for you for free today.” Creese smiled for the second time, if only briefly. “Everyone expects that, because of our reputations, this is going to be a busy week. I have clients lined up to look at your line that you’ve never done business with, and quite frankly, I need the time to prepare. Unless you want to waste some time.”

Ryan took off his auto-tint sunglasses and waited for Mr. Thomas to drink it all in and make his mind up. He didn’t like domineering bosses who like to push people around, and he’s found the only way to deal with that is to explicitly lay out that he’s both competent and unyielding right up front. Either Thomas would fire him right now for not kissing his butt, or Mr. Thomas would get a feel for what to expect from him. Either way, he liked to have his cards out on the table to begin with. Besides, the offer from Crey expired in twenty four hours and if it isn’t going to work out with Tharomar…

Milly started slightly at the touch and looked up at Mr. D with wide eys. "No... no I'm... I'm fine." She stuttered, dispite her words, she began to sway slightly as the drug began working through her system.

No! Stupid girl you can't go fainting in the big bosses office! What would dad say? Get it together! Squinching her eyes tightly, she jerked her head and tried to force the sudden lethargy away.

Mr. D felt a slight tingle travel up his arm, fadding almost as soon as his mind felt it. His own heartrate slowed and for a second it felt like his head was stuffed with cotton like during a cold. Though that too, faded shortly.

Milly stood straight and gave Mr. Tharomar a smile and a quick bob of a curtsy before slipping out from the agent's arm.

"That won't be needed sir, I'm ok now. I'll be back up around 4 to pick up any late posts you have sir. Have a nice day Mr Tharomar, sir." She nodded to Mr. D before moving out of the office at a slightly rapid pace.

((This is where paying attention comes in. For some in the thread, it may be morning, others it may be afternoon. There was a morning meeting and my secretaries were at lunch already... the time wil be different for some. Now, as far as going into the next day, you can go all the way up to Christmas... but just know that you will be doing a lot of waiting as far as interaction goes. Usually, if you do get ahead, I find it is the best time for relfections, back stories, or character description... up to you. Yea, I do not intend for everyone to be in the same time, all the time. If there's someone who is having dinner at home, already left for the day and you were looking to talk with them... well I hope you have their cell, lol. Either that, or it will have to wait till the next work day. This is also where PM planning comes into play. Talk it up with the other members when you want to have something done. I'm sure there won't be too much problem when it comes to interaction. Thats what this is all about anyway right.))

"...Your security and ability to adapt to change are going to directly affect my ability to make millions of dollars an hour for this company, not to mention my own paycheck.”

Clarence's eyes never blink, nor did they change from their deep and absorbing nature. To the untrained eye, you would have thought he hadn't breathed. He cleared the schedule of his mind and opened it completely to what Ryan Creese had to say. This was how the CEO conducted business. His mind was beyond a steel trap and the levels of complacency in his life was only diminished by being his own savior to the problem. Clarence, when he conducted business, made sure he didn't miss a thing. If that wasn't enough, he had a listening device constructed within the room for private review later on. He only turned it on when he felt the need. This was one of those times.

"Mr. Creese," the bass in Clarence's voice was low and full of suspect, "so far you have wasted my time, telling me information that I have made the standard for. I need not be reminded of such things. My patience runs thin. Please continue."

Creese smiled as he offered a handshake to Mr Thomas and took a seat.

"...“Everyone expects that, because of our reputations, this is going to be a busy week. I have clients lined up to look at your line that you’ve never done business with, and quite frankly, I need the time to prepare. Unless you want to waste some time.”

Clarence blinked for the first time and averted his sight to the the glass that comprised his desk. He pressed a button on the chairs arm and the rollaway seat turned Clarence's direction to the window.

There were several moments of silence before Clarence answered. Part of it to think about his meeting that night. Another part of it was as to how this may effect his timeline. And then there was the part that cautioned himself everytime he started a piece of business with a new associate. He had already made his decision. That had been made when he walked into the room.

"You will speak with Omaro Vasquez. He possesses all the information you will need. Time is of the essence, Mr. Creese. If you feel that this could be a lucrative transaction, then by all means, I look forward to your business. If not, however..."

Clarence's chair faced Ryan's direction once more. He stopped with a slight jerk and leaned forward onto the table, elbows bent, hands folded together. A faint smile barely made onti his face.

"I look forward to your business."

Clarence leaned back into his chair again, signifying their meeting was complete and turned to his Blackberry to check his schedule book. He hadn't yet gained the personal respect for Mr. Creese. There were times when respect was just business. It wasn't the same in your normal everyday situation. Especially when it came down to the life and times of Tharomar.

Jennifer Morse...

Clarence set the phone down and pressed the intercom button.

"Monica, send in Jennifer Morse and Vanessa, take Mr. Creese to Omaro Vasquez, personally," Vanessa knew what it meant when it came to escorting.

"Ms. Morse isn't here yet. I think she may still be getting clearance to come up," came Monica's voice.

Clarence Thomas never liked to repeat himself, but Monica was new and he still had remnants of a heart left. Very. Small. Remnants.

"Send in Ms. Morse."

"Yessir."

Once Mr. Creese had finally walked out of the office, Vanessa quickly stood up and straightened herself nervously. She had been watching the door in anticipation for when he would step out.

"Mr. Creese," Vanessa smiled, "If you will follow me, I can take you who you need to see."

And maybe what you want to see... Vanessa's eyes subtly surveyed Ryan's body as she slowly stepped from behind her desk. She approached the floor elevator and waited.

Monica phoned Security, "Hey, its Monica. Send up Ms. Morse if you haven't already. Mr. Thomas is ready to see her. Thanks."

Monica hung up the phone and stole a look over to her friend. She couldn't help but smile as she shook her head and went back to an excel project she was working on.

"Interesting." Tharomar jotted something down in a small black notebook after Milly had left.

He turned to Mr. D, "Keep an eye on her for now. Her memory has become of little consequence. Our bioengineering division would truly appreaciate knowing about something like this..."

Penny roused herself from her reverie upon seeing Milly leave.

"Hey, Milly!" she greeted the other girl cheerfully. "Burnin' the midnight oil? Don't stay here too late. This place'll eat your soul if you're not careful."

Waving to her as she headed down to the elevator, she once again tapped on Tharomar's door.

Freakin' finally. she thought, the transcript still neatly tucked into a manila envelope under her arm. She thumbed through it to reassure herself it was still there and secure, and awaited his call to enter.

"Good evening, sir." Penny said in her polite, businesslike manner. It was true that she hadn't had much contact with Tharomar, but she knew how to act around superiors.

Turning the envelope so it faced him, she neatly placed it down on his desk in an area just to his left - not directly in front of him, as that would make it seem like it was the most important thing he had to do. If she played her cards right here, she could easily move up in the assistant hierarchy.

"Mr. Tharomar." she said respectfully, her head tilted down so she had to look up to make limited eye contact. "Here is the transcript for the meeting we had earlier. The electronic copies have been destroyed and removed from the temporary archive databases. There have been no copies made, so distribution is at your discretion, sir. The cover page contains a short synopsis and a roster of attendants."

Penny hesitated. She really wanted to go home, but...

"...Is there anything else I can do for you, sir?"

"That will be all." Tharmar replied nonchalantly, keeping up the manner of the distanced boss who didn't know anybody's name.

Though he had to admit he hated it - they were working on something grand here, after all - he had to acknowledge it was drawing close to evening now, and the normal departments would soon shut down for the day...

Milly started slightly at Penny's unexpected greating, and again at the condition the woman was in. However, before she could ask what had happened, Penny had hustled into Mr. Tharomar's office. Her concern warring with her desire to get the heck away from that creapy guy in Mr. T's office.

Running her night collection rounds seemed to go a lot quicker then normal, and almost before she knew it, her mail cart was stocked with the nightly shipping. Shrugging, Milly bustled about the mail room, cleaning it up for the night and getting a few things ready for the morning, all the while thankful her 'boss' had already left.

What the heck just happened there? Mr. D wondered to himself. She had obviously shrugged off the effects of the drug somehow – he had felt something.

Mr. D hated when things were out of his control – except when Mr. Tharomar had control – and despite the indication that things were ‘ok’ Mr. D’s blood pressure rose considerably. Still his external composure remained.

As Penny entered the room, presenting the packet to Mr. Tharomar, Mr. D stepped through a concealed door and made his way back up to the secret floor. He sat down at the a computer and logged on using his ‘special’ account and started reviewing messages from agents and activities that many thought completely private.

In his brown leather jacket, black t-shirt, and blue jeans he looked like some average guy on the street. He sat calmly at his seat, finishing his report for Mr. Tharomar.

Finished he stood up. He had just finsihed his report on a recent attack on one of the corporation's office in Rockell by smoe wacko from Crey. He walked casually to the elevator to take him to the big boss man's offcie.
