Rowr sucks at drawing!

This is really weird. Harder to get used to than I thought. But... i think it'll really help when it comes to coloring! So we'll see !

Well I can't see it rowrsie but gratz!!

Now back to drawing, inking and coloring!!

*cracks whip*

Congratulations!!! I think that's a cute piccie! Now go forth and explore the wonders of your tablet!

I don't think it sucks, especially if that's like your first tablet drawing. I can't do that well on mine - but then my tablet... is way too small and I really don't like drawing on it. Definitely invest some time in it, you've obviously got skill - develop it on the tablet and go far!

I'd say it's pretty good for your first try on a new medium... Keep at it!

Oh, and TA... I don't know Rowr as well as you do.. But I think cracking a whip might distract her from the drawing...

lol *ahem*

just saw the piece for the first time and I think it's really good for your first time on a tablet!!

Must be a new experience to draw with it huh?

*ignores the whips, chains, and other instruments of... oh nevermind*

Yes it's definitely a different medium. I think once I get used to it (and after my art classes this fall YAY!) I can really improve! *is quite excited!*

As stated previously, that's a pretty solid attempt for one's first try at a new medium.

Considering a tablet myself, I just have to ask - how does it compare to actually drawing on paper? I tend to mess up too much to really feel comfortable using a digital form, especially since it'd be a bit harder for me to repair my mistakes without feeling like a total loser...

So, an opinion from someone just starting to use one would be incredibly helpful! If you don't mind, of course. :3

Well to be honest with ya, at first it was reeeeally weird. But after a little bit you do get used to it. My lines on the tablet are a LOT sloppier than they are on paper, and my hand apparently is a LOT shakier than I though (probably because of the sampling, it'll pick up the tiniest of shakes), so my slow straight lines aren't so much.

But the neatest thing is precision erasing! You flip the stylus over, and it's got an 'eraser' head that is also pressure sensitive. So instead of erasing in photoshop precisely what's in the circle, you can set a bigger brush (like 50 px) and if you use liiiight pressure you will only erase a tiny circle in the middle. Press harder and you have a bigger eraser. I was really able to fix my mistakes quite well.

I think it's going to be a big pain when it comes to inking though. But we'll see. I might have to keep using the mouse method... but I haven't played with it quite yet.

I do think it will be a phenominal help when it comes to coloring though. All those little details and such and shading. Flats are easy enough with the mouse no worries there.

So yeah, it is different from paper but it's a good different.

Hmm. I may have to seriously look into using one, then, if I ever get my noob-art skills up beyond 'Is that a tree, or a light post?'.

Thanks for the feedback, and hopefully it works out for you, too. You seem to be doing well from what I can see.

Well I honestly think it's just an extension of your materials. If you know how to draw well already on paper, then it won't be much of a problem to go all digital. Unfortunately, I don't know how to draw well yet so that's my results. We'll see how I do with TA.

What'll be funny is when, after 6 months on the tablet, you try to go back to paper - how odd it'll feel (well, at least that's what happened to me).

Posted

Gratz Rowr, what one did you get, and what size?

Posted

I got the Graphire 4, 4x5" one. It was an open box (GRR!) because stupid fry's only had this one and the big Intuos for like $469 ugh. It was missing the driver cd too but I could download those thankfully.

I"m still evaluating it, but I am also thinking about getting a tablet PC (convertible) and seeing if that is any better. :P But that's a ways off, this should do for now.

And here's another attempt! Keep in mind this is about 20 minutes of sketchwork. So very very rough!

Attempt #2 or 3

Posted

You're way ahead of me on one of those demon tablets! I tried one once and my neighbors 3 year old would have been able to out draw me. So... damned good work.

and your gonna be right scary after some art classes

Posted

If those are rough sketches, I have to wonder why you'd -really- need art classes...

Then again, I felt the same way about taking Powerpoint last semester, and I -STILL- learned something despite my prior knowledge. So that could be it.

Still, for a short sketch on a new medium, that's not so bad at all.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go find a shovel and bury my artistic skills before they create anymore abombinations. >.>

Looking good Rowr.
Now just put her hair up into pigtails and you can say it's Pep so you can get your rowr sketch I made you.

A few of the IRC folks!
Sketched this morning in Sketchbook Pro to try it out.

Come check it out (Channel #Virtue)

I'm sure some of them people won't recognize... and my sketching went from bad to worse as I worked on it... LOL
