Dev Response - Sonic Blast Set

This set has already been nerfed big-time. This mention does not have any targetted AoEs (only cones). Not to mention Howl sucks. How is this set overpowered? Try playing a Fire Blaster up to 10 and then a Sonic Blaster, and watch how much faster the Fire Blaster goes.

I've played my Sonic Blaster up to lvl 9, and taken all the powers, except shockwave, up to that point just to get a feel for them. Personally I don't think it's overpowered. It generally takes me about 3 shots to kill a minion. (1 ACC and 2 Dam TO's in each attack). Takes only 2 hits if I buildup, more if I miss a high damage sh ot and have to use the little ones.

The set seems to some to be a bit high damage, but by my rationale the lack of AE makes it hard to take out groups. We only have howl as a cone, which is a bit anemic. Because of the lack of AE we need to be able to keep a pretty good damage stream of single targets in order to be competitve.

This set is very controllery. With Shockwave, Sirens Song, and whatever the disorient are, it should be very doable to keep control at the same time we damage. I really like that. I was planning on starting an Ice Blaster for it's control, but with the advent of sonic that's gonna be my first choice.

My only suggestion would be to up the damage on howl just a little bit. It doesn't need a lot, but a slight boost would round the set out nicely.

That's my 2 bits. Pardon my rambling, and I hope this is helpful..

My only problem with the set so far is:

Howl is listed as 'High Damage' in the description, but the power is actually 'Moderate' when you hover over it in your tray.

And that moderate damage usually is less than the first 2 sonic attacks anyways. Maybe it's high damage in the aspect that it can hit multiples? (although I've never actually seen it hit more than one thing... stupid hard to aim cone.....)

Blind Fayth - 50 Necro/Poison MasterMind
Overture - 46 Sonic/Sonic Defender
Demonspark - 42 SS/Elec Brute

Good job on this set!

A few, hopefully minor, complaints.

Please let Shriek sound like a woman's or child's shriek. Sure, it will seem a little wierd coming out of a Huge hero, but there are other sounds that look strange coming out of a female hero, or a magic hero, or whatever.

The set might be a little strong. It might be good to scale the damage back a bit now, so you can buff it later if it seems underpowered, rather than nerfing it later if it seems overpowered.

Other than that, I like it a lot. Looking forward to more great new powersets!

Story Arcs I created:

Every Rose: (#17702) Villainous vs Legacy Chain. Forget Arachnos, join the CoT!

Cosplay Madness!: (#3643) Neutral vs Custom Foes. Heroes at a pop culture convention!

Kiss Hello Goodbye: (#156389) Heroic vs Custom Foes. Film Noir/Hardboiled detective adventure!

General comment on the graphics from the view of a Sonic Defender...The sonic effects are a bit too subtle to the eye. I have not yet experienced what I have read (teams not taking a sonic defender due to eye-strain of their bubbles), but I do think the wavy lines are a bit hard to see. The force bubble is pretty obvious.

With all the graphics flying around I want to make sure I can keep my team protected, so making it a little more opaque would be great.

Is it me or does sonic do way to much damage.

Maybe it's different in the higher lvls.

Voltaic Shock.

it's just you. I'd dearly love to see your evidence of this, especially since the reality is that sonic's actual damage numbers are right on par with other blaster sets, and in some cases, like Howl, are lower. Now let's discuss your real reason for your post. You have a semi-high level elec blaster and you want to see the new kids on the block do poorly so you can feel better about your elec blaster. That's pathetic and petty and if I had a nickel for every envious nerf-herder on these forums that does the same thing you're trying to do, I'd be able to buy NCSoft and cancel your accounts. Of course I can't prove that this is your intention which makes the slimy tactics people like you use so conveniently easy to hide behind, but you'd have to be pretty damn stupid not to be wise to this old forum trick. What I'm basically trying to say in a long winded way is...

go die.

Powers = good

Graphics = No complaints

Sounds = turn off

I'm pretty much in agreement with SnipeFu's quick but to the point assessment of this set. And I'm head over heels in love with it. The powers are fine as they are right now and need no changing. The graphics are perfect for this set, being colourless and semi-transparent which is precisely how I'd envision a sonic power to be. The sounds may not be the best, but really they're not as horrible as some of these posters would have you think, and I can live with that. awesome set.

I am still getting vertigo from the sonic bubbles. Having to look away from the screen to avoid hurling is not a good way to survive.
PLEASE find a better way to represent this power.

Also, on the list for 'integrated' effects - I have a sonic archer defender (Elvis Archer) on Triumph - the animations for drawing and shooting are so long that it's resulted in a couple defeats, especially when using the sonic blast secondary set ALWAYS makes the bow go away. It would be nice if the bow did not have to go away when you use other powersets.

this is the sonic blast thread, your comment was directed at the defender sonic primary.

One thing they need to fix under the Shout's description. No where does it say you have to be at close range. When i took it i thought it was the same range as the first two powers in the sonic blast set. Some of the sounds need to be fix, and the damage is fine. Leave well enough alone is what i say.
