The Clockwork Fugitive

The light shone above Steel Canyon, rays of light filtering through the tall buildings bunched close together. Crickets could be heard chirping in the lazy afternoon, Heroes flew in the sky to another crime that only they could solve. All was right in this particular sector of Paragon City, a real City of Heroes.

Now, our story begins here, a lazy afternoon in Steel Canyon. Our hero is unlikely one, a normal thirteen year old boy, teased and made fun of by his peers. He finds all his comforts in the cold, smooth, reliability of robots. He spent most of his time in his father’s shop tinkering around with any spare parts he could come across. This heroes name is Larry Chatwood, but before the end of this story he will become much more!

The hero in question was currently walking home from a hardware store. Picking up some parts that his Father needed for one of his newer projects. Now his father was secretly working on another project he was keeping secret from the Council of Paragon City Science. He was working on figuring what make the Clockwork...tick, per say. And at the exact moment Larry walked into the room his father was using for his project a electrical malfunction caused a massive explosion.

Energies from different projects in the lab fused in the explosion, and connected the boy and the clockwork his Father was tinkering with. The explosion killing his father and setting the building ablaze. Larry’s body was blown out of the building, but it was left comatose for a year. Larry’s mind fused into the body of the Clockwork instantly linking his mind with that of the Clockwork King.

“I shall follow you forever and always, my master.” The robot droned. It made it’s way to the lair of the Clockwork King. Moving across many a zone to reach the lair.

The Clockwork King lifted the small robot and looked at it closely. This one was different from the other Clockwork, it was more powerful and it could fight better.

“You shall be called Tick-Tok! And you shall be my son, and we shall rule my mechanical court!” the King laughed insanely.

“Yes my master. I shall be your son” Tick-Tok said in the monotone voice of one under the effects of mind control.

“And now I have your first mission!” The Clockwork king said.

“And soon, you and I shall rule Paragon!” He cackled into the night. All the Robot could do was obediently nod his head.

“Doctor! The patient has gone completely comatose. What should we do?” The Nurse Questioned. She was rubbing her hands together frantically, a habit she picked up years ago.

“We shall leave him be for now, and wait for someone to come looking for a missing boy” the Doctor said. Right now he could care less about another coma case in the city. But something was nagging him about the boy. It was just the way he felt around the body. Something was going to happen to that body and he would just have to wait and see.

“Well, onto the next patient...” The doctor absentmindedly said. And with that they both left the room, leaving poor Larry to his dreamless sleep.

((gets wide eyed while reading))

I like how it's starting off. Definitely something I'll want to see where this goes. I haven't read pg 1-400 of Whittmore yet so I'm interested to see how this evolves, not knowing the exact outcome. Keep it up!

Chapter Two: All the King's men.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darkness. It is such a strange thing but it is something we all know. Darkness can best be described as the absence of light and that is all that can be said for the mind of Larry Chatwood. Currently in a coma since a week ago. Elsewhere, his mind is in that of a Clockwork robot being controlled by the Clockwork King. And here is where this chapter begins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“My master, what is it you wish for me to do?” the Clockwork robot known as Tick-Tok Questioned.

“I need you to go get something for me. It is a very problematic virus that could kill me” the Clockwork King screeched. His massive body of rusted metal creaking with each step he took across the room. The glass chassis upon his body bubbling with that psychic energy being dispelled from it. Inside the chassis were the brain and unblinking eyes of the Clockwork King.

He who was once a brilliant scientist was now nothing more than a psychotic lunatic. Building around him his own court where he would rule king of all.

“I shall do anything for you, my master” Tick-Tok droned. The mind of an innocent child trapped in one of the King’s monstrosities. Though the King had made upgrades to the robot, it was still a figure of terror. Over the inner workings of the robot he put crude rusting sheets of metal. Spikes jutted up from his shoulders. Over his head he put a reinforced helmet he had ripped from the body of a dead hero.

“Then go my child! Go and bring an army that shall demolish the humans!” The Clockwork King cackled.

“Soon we shall rule all of Paragon City! And we shall kill the humans who have made us robotic beings their slaves!” He shouted as he raised his fist into the air. Sparks flying from the joints of all the clockwork in the area as they raised their fists as well, screaming into the night. The time of Reckoning was upon the Human Plague.

In the Top Secret Sector of City Hall

The lights flickered off and the civilians inside the lab went into a panic. This had never happened before and it wasn’t even supposed to happen. The backup generator should have kicked in by now. But all they could see was the darkness in front of their faces.

“Is everyone all right?” Jim from marketing called into the darkness. He was one of the nicest guys in the office, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

“I think were all fine!” called Katie from legel into the darkness. She was known for her up front attitude, she was always used to getting her way.

Just as the crowd of people began talking the lights flickered on. It illuminated everything and the familiar hum of the lights comforted them that it was alright. But it was far from alright because just then the attack happened.

An explosion rocked the room as a massive hole was blown into the wall and out from the darkness stepped Tick-Tok. He was holding the dead body of Susan from the Medicine department. A bloody hole ripped in her back.

“Where is the Virus?” Tick-Tok said without a hint of emotion. He threw the body into the middle of the room and began advancing further in. People screamed as they ran for the emergency exit. Everyone made it out except for two people. Jim and Katie looked on in terror as the monstrosity made it’s way towards them.

“Where is the Virus?” Tick-Tok repeated as he grabbed Katie’s wrist.

“I don’t know!” Katie screamed. She desperately tried to get away from the grasp of the Clockwork.

“Then you die” Tick-Tok said as he sent fatal amounts of electricity into Katie’s body. She screamed in agony as she was electrocuted, her hair stood on end and parts of her skin began to burn. Tick-Tok let go when he was sure she was dead. Katie’s prone form fell to the ground.

Jim screamed in terror as he tried to run. But he was rooted to the spot in terror. He made a cowardly attempt at trying to get away from the monstrosity by telling him where the virus was.

“It’s there! In that steel case!” Jim frantically said. He pointed a shaking hand at a steel case across the room.

“Thank you for your cooperation. Now you die” Tick-Tok said. He threw a bolt of Electricity at the ceiling above Jim’s head. A ton of metal falling on Jim, crushing him. Tick-Tok made his way out of the room and back into the sunny sky of Atlas Park.

In the lair of the Clockwork King
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You have done it my child! You have saved the life of your king" The Clockwork king said gleefully.
"I shall give you free will. It shall make you better than your brothers!" The Clockwork King cackled. And with that the mental connection was severed and all hell broke loose. Tick-Tok screamed in pain, electricity arching from his body. He felt the pain from the explosion, he felt regret for the people he had killed, but most of all he felt sadness, the deepest sadness anyone could ever feel.
Tick-Tok burst though a high window and out into the grey sky of BoomTown. He swore revenge on all things Clockwork.
“I’LL DESTROY ALL OF THE CLOCKWORK! AND THEN I CAN FINALLY BE AT PEACE!” Tick-Tok screamed into the sky.
And in the destroyed lair of the Clockwork King, the King plotted a way to fix this problem. He wasn’t able to establish a new mental link. But he decided to do something more terrible than any mind control. He would kill Tick-Tok and his court would be perfect again. And soon, it would all be his.
