Hero Academy (open RP)
The onrushing Gaardvord's attack was abruptly cut short as twin beams of X-Ray radiation shot forth rendering him unconscious.
"You owe me one Ribs, make sure you keep an eye out for the ones that get up." Radon said as he healed his wounds and boosted his abilities.
As he turned around he spotted 3 Trollkins headed right for him. Without hesitation he leapt right into their midst and unleashed a cloud radioactive fumes, causing them to begin hacking and coughing unable to fight back. A few flashes of radiation and quick punches later all three were out of the fight. Before the last one fell, he was already off again towards the next group, all the while keeping an eye on his teammates healing and reinvigorating them, and himself, as they needed it.
"God I love my job!!!" he shouted as he let loose a burst of cosmic radiation on the enemies before him.
Alan turned around, he had seen a glow, but he hadn't realized that it was Radon and he hadn't rralised that Sartain was here. It's been a hour already? "Alright." Was all he said as he turned back towards the fray, Where do all these Trolls come from? He quickly slashed a trollkin with a sledge hammer, followed by a strike on atonthers cheast and a followed up by a focused burst of force that sent him off the edge of the building. A Troll jumped across the alley from another building. He bound over and hit him off as he landed. More where coming and he couldn't keep the all from off.
"Sartain I need support." He yelled as he knocked down another. An Ogre made the gap and he suddenedly had bigger problems than the Trolls that made it across.
A quick jump got him out of the way of superadine charged fist. HE got a good look at the Ogre and he saw a rarity amongst them, a female Troll. He had always wondered why so few women were interested in superadine, he pushed the thought away and got ready for, if Sartain fire was good enough would be a solo fight, he didn't have the resources for more. He brought his claws down in an arc for her. It was an odd felling as his claws almost bounced off her skin, if he hadn't lost feeling in his finger tips along time ago he was sure they would be unbeliveable painful. She hammered him in the gut, again his dark armor saved him, her fist most of had enough power to break a boulder. Negitive energy flared from his armor and stole some of her energy and some how transfered it into him to heal his wound. He didn't know how or care, it just had to work.
"I will crush you!" She bellowed.
"You be surpised how many Troll who have said that to me are in jail now, that is if they made it to the emergency room in time." He taunted as he got out of the way of a punch. He quickly stuck back, her skin must be rock hard, he was having trouble breaking it.
"I get back at you for Detritus!" She yelled as her fist hit the ground, the concussion knocked him back. He rolled out of the way of a fist coming down on his prone form. He got back up and he connected who Detritus was.
"He was the one in the Skull's Superadine lab, King's Garment District, right?" He landed another hit, but he wasn't doing much. Is she wearing aromor under her skin?
"YOU KILL HIM!" A punch hit his side hard and sent him to the ground.
He had an idea. "Pity that." And he held out a fist and released a stream of negitive energy at her, then he raised a second hand an d a torent of negitive energy engulfed her and knocked her off the building.
In the two second of calm, with the exception of the counds of combat going on around him, he thought about what had just happened. And he was flatered that he had managed to make an enemy in a gang. Well flatered might be to strong a word, but he was happy about it, it meant he was making an impacted. He got up and a got back to fighting the Trolls. The whole fight against her his smile never faultered.
(OOC Note: Sorry about the length, I was inspired when I started writing. Also ten points to who ever knows where the reference Detritus comes from.)
Janice was poise and calm, turning off everything except what she aimed at. Her mind was counting the rounds, subconsciously. When the BAR locked open, indicating an empty magazine, she calmly rolled the mags over, one protruded from the other's bottom, jungle-clipped together to speed changing.
She was trying to keep several of the trolls off the roof using the shotgun and BAR. The knockback would throw one or another over the edge, keeping the mass down. Being overwhelmed was not high on her list of fun, and even scrappers and tanks need a breath now and then. The Spas dropped on an empty chamber, she racked it once more and heard the same, that let the troll get right up to her.
Her close combat skill was good, but ranged was her specialty, and she did not like getting this close. No time to fill the twelve gauge, she opened up with the fresh BAR, but that pulled firepower from the mob around Raymond and Alan. She low kicked the green villain and connected with the rifle, blowing him over the fire escape and picked up two more Gaardvords.
The barrel of Topper was red, and she was switching hands to keep the burn from her skin. Six to Nine round bursts, she heard her firearms instructor from years ago, losing a barrel meant you screwed up. Range was short for the M-30, but she chanced it.
The grenade didn't have range to spin arm and hit an Ogre like a huge slug. He staggered, knocking another troll from the roof.
"If we don't clear these guys soon, you're gonna need a stretcher for the Gun Bunny!" She shouted over the clashing of weapons. The end of a belt came out of the M-60's ammo can, she was almost dry, and little time or space to reload. In over our heads, she was thinking.
Alan looked around in quick glances as he held off 3 trollkin and a Jutal. Everyone was being overwhelmed, and things were getting worse. He wondered who had gotten the Troll this riled up. He didn't like it, but there was only one thing too do. He used a shockwave to knock the trolls fighting him back and let go of the negitive energy protecting him. Then he embraced a half of his powers he didn't like to use. A half which couldn't be explianed scientificly, a half that was close to Death. He covered himself with it like a clock and the mind warping effects of it began. He felt for his allies, because he was about to become thier worst fear but it would affect the Trolls and it was the least harmful thing he could do. He hoped Sartain's pills were working because what every had freaked her out at the practice range was about to happen here and twice as hard. He hoped they would forgive him after this. His smile was there, small, but it still showed teeth.
"Bloody Hell?" said Lord Raymond as he began to witness Alan's bizarre powers. "Good thing he's on our side, right mates." Having been abandoned by his family Lord Raymond had learned that no matter how weird someone was they should be treated with respect and revered for their good qualities. "We're in pretty deep here chaps. Where are they all coming from. Its as if there was a trollkin factory around here or something that was making all these trolls. I am getting tired of Trolls, they are kind of starting to tick me off." said Lord Raymond as he hovered above the mob of trolls that was approaching Sartain.
"Bombs away you might say" laughed Lord Raymond [censored] he dropped right into the thick of the mob and began to swing quite violently, spinning his axe around like a high school ROTC drill team with their rifles. Trolls were being knocked senseless all over the place until two abnormally large trolls lifted up the air conditioning system from the roof and lobbed it at Lord Raymond.
Lord Raymond was too tired to dodge effectively, but did manage to dodge it enough to avoid being smashed entirely. However the hit from the AC was enough to send Raymond tumbling backwards over the side of the building, smashing into the ground with a thud. The armor protected Raymond from breaking any bones but he was only semiconcious from the fall and was laying quite still on the ground.
(OOC: Are Mended Ribs' powers supposed to cause you see your greatest fear or just instill fear in you. I just wanted to make sure I understood the effects of his powers before I made a post.)
Celes quietly watched the group of cadets as they fought the trollkin. They have to be the ones Corprol Punishiment sent me to find. Her mind flashed to the brief conversation she had with him after she returned from her assigned leave. He wanted to test her 'unique' hunting abilites and to show him that she wasn't useless. Staring down at them as she flew over she was able to piece together the 'scent' she had followed here from the base. Molten rock, gunpowder, metal, burnt air, and something very familiar to her that she couldn't place.
She was impressed by how they fought, almost as if they had done this before. She did a rollover and began to dive down towards the group to aid them in battle. As she headed in, she felt a tug on her soul. A swirling vortex began to grow in her stomach. She heard the whisper of voices in her ear. Dark voices, screaming and bellowing at her. She shook her head clear as she glanced down. She saw the all-too familiar darkness crawl into existence around one of the cadets.
Celes winced as she could feel the pull again. Great...that's what was familiar.
As she flew down from the shadows in the sky, she noticed the man encased in the earth get thrown over a building. She quickly changed corse and flew to him.Scanning him quickly, she could tell he was barly holding on to consiousiness.
"Well he said to help if needed...i guess it's needed," she sighed aloud as she swooped down on Lord Raymond.
She floated down to stand next to his prone body, hands outspread in a non-agressive manner. Her slightly etheral wings of white bleeding into black slowly collasped back into her shoulders. She knelt down by him, her long sun-kissed white hair falling over one shoulder. The shadow from the building could not hide the black and purple ram's horns that sprang from her hair. Her ice blue eyes looked at him with slight concern.
"I am here to help," she spoke softly as she held her hands over his body.
"Will you allow me to help you?" she asks him, blinking nervously at him.
(( Celestra Desmonte,23, 6'1", blonde hair blue eyes, rams' horns, Black leather corasette, black pants with purple flames rising from the legs, black boots and gloves.))
(OOC Note: Sorry should have made that clear, it makes you see you greatest fear. I know the in game cloack of fear doesn't affect allies, but Alan's inexperienced with it and I know that physcal pain can be less than emtoinal fear, but Alan doesn't know that.)
"Wha...uhhh...Goodness I feel like I have fallen off a building...AH, what in the name of the Queen are you?" said Lord Raymond as he saw this angelic looking figure down at his body. Am I dead? he thought to himself. No I can't be dead, heaven would look a whole lot less like Paragon City. Well then who is this? She can't be an angel
It was then that Lord Raymond recognized that she had asked if he wanted her help. "Well I am not in much of a position to refuse help, now am I?" laughed Lord Raymond who still could not get up. "I would be quite grateful if you were to help me."
(OOC: I didn't really want to reveal this just yet, but Alan's powers aren't really going to affect Lord Raymond very much because Raymond has no greatest fear anymore. He is already in a perpetual state of inner sadness and fear of the fact that he has been abandoned by everyone he had ever been close to, and was foribidden ever to return to England. So he is already living his Greatest Fear and won't be affected by it the way the others are. However Raymond doesn't know that he can't be affected by it, and neither do the others. After this little episode on the roof he will discover it. Hope that this is okay with everyone)
"What in the h..." Radon said as he turned towards Mended Ribs and was suddenly enveloped in darkness.
As everything went black the aura surrounding him seemed to intensify. All of a sudden the gloom dissipated and he was back on the rooftop. Looking around he found that all the Trolls lay motionless before him.
"Wow, nice one Ribs. What was exactly did you....do?" he said as he turned around to find the others lying prone as well.
With more speed than even he knew he was capable of he was at their side. The sight that awaited him was more horrifying then he could ever imagine. Their faces were twisted in agony and their skin was a sickly shade of green. Quickly surveying the rooftop he could tell that the Trolls strewn about had the same affliction. This entire time his eyes had only been focused on the immediate vicinity, but as he looked away from the carnage around him the true extent of the atrocity that had been committed became evident. The only thing left standing in the entire zone was the building he was on.
"Dear Lord..." Radon said to himself as he took in the sheer devastation.
The force field that sealed off the area was shattered and the destruction continued on as far as he could see. Suddenly he spotted several forms emerging from the desolation. As they came closer he recognized them as some of the most powerful heroes in Paragon.
"Thank God you're here! What's going on?! What happened?!" he called as one of them landed nearby.
The hero was about to speak when he suddenly grasped his throat and fell to his knees gasping and choking. Radon quickly rushed to help him, but as soon as he touched him the sickness seemed to accelerate and he too collapsed never to move again. Suddenly he felt something swelling up inside and a moment later all he could see was a brilliant green glow. When it finally faded anything that had been left standing was gone, the Earth was scorched clean. The amount of destruction around him made the Sahara look like paradise.
"It...it was...it was....ME?!" he said mortified.
Before he even knew what was happening he was back standing in the same spot he was in when the darkness had encompassed him. Radon looked around to find the Trolls unconscious and the other heroes seemingly fine. Mended Ribs took a step towards him and he freaked out.
"No...NO...stay away!!! Everyone just stay away!!!" he said quickly backing away from him.
Completely overwhelmed by his terror and exhaustion he blacked out, hitting the ground pretty hard.
Janice rammed a quick-feed tube into the shotgun, chancing a quick look over the edge of the roof. She saw three stories of windows between the ground and the ledge where she stood, some dumpsters and rubbish to make the fall all the more dangerous. With an open space, she might be able to PLF without breaking something, but down there was only broken bones.
The smiling guy had some kind of dark shadow around him, she hit another troll and watched him fall on his face. There was a flyer, but she looked friendly, dodging down after Raymond. She had wanted to go over and cover the small Englishman, but a dead soldier helped no one and staying alive was her priority right now.
Her stomach lurched, hard training kicking in, telling her something wasn't right. With enough practice and determination, a human can operate on almost no sleep and with severe wounds for days, the will to succeed driving out any possibility of failure. She had seen some of the hardest training and schools the military could come up with, learning to regress to that reptile center of the brain that could push through otherwise impossible odds.
As Alan's powers washed over the group, her eyes played tricks. She could see the blue sky, the KC-135 HALO drop aircraft slowly moving to the horizon. This high, above the clouds, the earth seemed peaceful and small. Her wrist altimeter sped along, counting down her drop from 32,000 feet, the bitter cold and lack of oxygen held at bay by the thermal suit and rebreather. She lazily watched two other troopers dropping just above her, signaling the thumbs up.
At less than 700 feet she yanked the ripcord, waiting for the hard pull of the chute. The altimeter counted to 500, then 300, too low for the chute to slow her. The pull never came.
The M-60 went quiet, the last of the steel links from the belt springing out and forward and the bolt locking back on empty air. Like an automaton, Ma's hands cleared the receiver and loaded another belt, slamming the loading cover down and charging the weapon. While her mind worked on the nightmare caused by Alan's power her trained body kept fighting, no longer feeling the effects of the bullets or hurled stones.
It was only a matter of time. That survival center would go on as long as her health lasted...
Wasting no time Alan took down the Trolls to hopped up on Superadine to noticed thier fears. The others fled from him, more often than not falling off the rooftop. Alan's claws cut down three hestiant Trollkin and came down an another Ogre. He pushed the Ogre off with a few swift hits and another torrent of negitive energy. And then in Alan's left shoulder he felt unbeliveable pain.
Suddenly he let go of the negitive energy around him and knelt down. He looked at his shoulder and for a breif second there was a flash of purple-blue fire. "Idoitidoitidiot." he said under his breath. A Gradvord tried to hit him from the behind, but it feel to a flash from Sartian's rifle. I should have been pating attention, how could I not have noticed. He thought bitterly. The remaining Trolls were being mopped up by Sartian. "where are the others?" He asked himself.
Then he saw Radon laying on the ground. "Holy [censored]." He ran over to him. "Radon! Can you hear me!"
(OOC Note: Because Celestra Desmonte seems to be spirtauly aware, that fire on Alans shoulder was abit of his soul being burned. Negitive energy has had alot of affects on his body, his claws for instance, but it has gotten worse lately. It's starting to damage his very soul if he uses to much of it.)
As Buck Shott and Tommy Gunn arrived in Eastgate, they noticed a large group of trolls unconcious around the others, along with an another cadet they'd seen before, but didn't know his name. Then they realized why the trolls were unconcious, "You started without us? Awwwww...," whined Buck. "I wanted to blow stuff up...," whined Tommy in an identical tone of voice. "What's up with him?" asked Buck, pointing at the unknown cadet.
(OOC: I can't believe you finished without me... . I've been busy the last few days. )

"I hope," Janice said through gritted teeth, climbing one step at a time down the fire escape and holding on with her left hand, "that whatever that was, it did not come from our team."
Her expression was either pain or anger, but she was looking directly at Alan when she spoke.
"I understand some people biting off more than they can chew, I understand getting scared and running," as she reached the ground, her steps became more steady, "I even understand being made bait." She fished inside one of the cargo pockets in her pants, pulling out a small metal disc.
"I do NOT understand if someone calls in fire and does NOT warn his team!" She was definitely angry, jabbing her index finger towards the man. "A team does not leave it's members on the field, and they DO NOT call fire without a WARNING!" She was shouting, but keeping her distance, worried that getting any closer would lead to something physical.
She tossed the coin in the dirt at Alan's feet. It was larger than any form of money, stamped and painted on one side with a military insignia like a castle tower with an arm holding lightning bolts floating above it. The other side, just visible before the token struck the ground, was of two men, back to back and weapon's at the ready. Known as a Unit Coin, soldiers would present them to each other as a token of friendship or, in this case, a challenge to pick it up and bear the responsibility of being a team.
OOC:I am assuming that I was helped by the newomer, so that I can post
Lord Raymond was awaiting his team at the bottom of the fire escape after the fight.
"That was some brawl there wasn't it chaps, nearly had my body smashed by an AC. Took a little spill there but I am all right now." said Lord Raymond. Turning to Alan, Raymond said, "That was an interesting show you just put on up there Alan. Perhaps you'd like to explain things a little deeper now that we know what you are actually capable of?"
Lord Raymond could tell that this was now a touchy subject with the group and began to wish he hadn't mentioned it, even though he didn't know why Janice was so upset that Alan had used his power.
So as to let it be known that he was not mad at Alan for anything Raymond said,"Maybe you can tell us on the way back, I am sure Corpral Punishment is wondering where we are."
"Just have to ask..." Celes trailed off, looking back over at the battle. She mentaly sent a smokey tendril of her shadow aura out towards one of the trollkin. It slithered across the ground like a snake. The tendril slipped inside the troll's aura and latched on to his spiritual esscence. Celes could feel the life energy flow back to her. She spread her hands over Lord Raymond and transfered that life energy to him, coating him like a blanket.
She recalled her aura as she stood back from him. She extened a gloved hand and helped him to his feet.
"I'm Celes and I've been sent to help," she replied staring at him. Her voice almost sounded melodic.
She glanced back at the others. Noticing a group of the trolls slightly grouped together, she quickly judged the distance. Throwing her hand out in an arch, she lanced a wave of sparkling energy towards the trolls, knocking a few back.
She smiled at Lord Raymond." Shall we?" she asked, motioning to the other cadets.
Alan looked at Janice. His smile was thin and small. Then he looked down at the coin, he figured it was some sort of gesture. He didn't get it so he apllied his own logic to it. It had to have something to do with teammembers and it was thrown down, he figured that if he walked away or ignored it he would be abondoning the team, so picking it up had to be to mean he would stand by. He hazarded and picked up the coin. "It could have been worse. The Trolls could have trampled us or I could have used something else. That was the most bening thing in my arsenal." He looked back down at Radon, what happened? "Besides I got the worst of it." His shoulder still felt raw and painful, but he still didn't know what that little surge had done to his soul.
He heard Raymond and followed the voice to the hero and someone else was standing next to him. Then he saw Buck and his friend from the range. "Buck you got that box thing, can you help him with that." He pointed to Radon. He looked to Janice and tossed to coin back to her. "We have bigger problems at the moment so, could we resolve this later?" He looked down at Radon, his face was incapable of concern, but his twitching smile almost got the message across.
"So, what happened? It's like a tornado hit around here and... and...," Buck noticed the motionless bodies, and realized that many of them weren't ever going to get up. "You... you killed them! What kind of people are you! The law isn't meant to be taken into your own hands! Now, in the law's eyes, you're all criminals, too. I'll only give you a warning this time, but if you kill ANYONE ever again, I'll arrest you myself! You can obtain rubber bullets at the facility, Sartain. As for the rest of you, just use blunt force to knock enemies out instead of killing them. Because of you, these men have died, perma-dead," Buck Shott was absolutely livid. "I only let loose like I did at training against robots or non-humans like rikti or hydra in places where collateral damage will be minimal. Are we absolutly clear?" He then aimed his medical device at Radon, and healed him. "The internal scanner here says he suffered a mental shock."
(OOC: I used the same term MaDeuce used (perma-dead) in order to accentuate the point, so you know. Also, Buck despises killing, and NEVER uses lethal force on humans and Kheldians.)

Radon rose to his feet seemingly fine and after looking around at some of the Trolls he realized the same thing that Buck had. The only difference was he wasn't willing to give up so easily.
"No...no one....dies...today. Get....get ready." he said as one after another several Trolls began to glow and rise from the ground.
Using his powers he had jumpstarted their bodies, healing their wounds and bringing them back from the brink of death. Even though he had just saved their lives he was somehow certain that they weren't about to express their gratitude. Not wasting a moment he quickly engulfed the resuscitated villains in a choking cloud of radioactive gas and leaving them helpless. Luckily only a few had sustained fatal wounds, so it would be an easy task of taking them down.
"Let's KO...these guys...and get..back to...the academy." Radon said as he began firing beams of radiation in rapid fire succession.
(OOC: Radon doesn't kill either and does his best not to let others kill as well. Just so you know I had him use Hasten to allow him to bend the game rules a bit and use Mutation repeatedly on the Trolls as well as let him quickly and continuously attack them. Hope that's okay.)
"Nice one, I can't raise the dead, but I'm glad someone can," said Buck as he and Tommy pumped seven pounds of rubber out of their guns, knocking all the trolls out cold. "Who's up for ice cream? I'm buying. I'm loaded with influence now that I'm a hero, so let's go have fun with it."

Alan was glad that Radon was okay and he had to be ready for Janice. She wasn't happy about what he had done, but he wasn't the type how would try and slid around the subject, he took care of them head on. "You guys go ahead, I think me a Janice are going to have to talk." He said in a friendly tone, it almost sounded like they were going to sort out who was going to pay for a bill.
He hoped this wouldn't get physical, he had no buffer between him and Death and doing anything would ignite his soul. He would take whatever he had to though. He had a firm idea of what being a hero was about and while he didn't think he deserved the title he would live by the creed that he belived they followed.
"Janice?"
"S..sure. I...I guess...we...earned it." Radon said in response to Buck's offer.
His brain was buzzing making it so he couldn't think straight and he needed time to sort things out anyway. Strangely, even though the battle was over his aura never dissipated. As he moved to exit the rooftop he heard Mended Ribs say something about talking to Janice. He was so out of it that he wasn't even able to figure out who Janice was and just shrugged it off.
"L...lead...the way....uh....I...I didn't...get..y...your name." Radon stuttered as he reached the street and turned back towards Buck Shott.
Celes stood slightly covered by the shadow of the building as Lord Raymond joined the other cadets. She wrapped her arms around her chest as she stared sadly at Alan. She could see the toll his power would take on his soul and it made her shiver. Her gaze quickly moved across the others, horriabily impressed by what she saw.
Her wings safely melded back into her body, she ran a nervous hand through her hair. She stopped, frowing sadly, as her finger tips brushed her horns. They traced the ram-like curl.
The stigmata of my parent's love. Burdened to bear their mistake, she thought to herself.
Taking a deep breath, Celes gathered all the strength she could. She swallowed her fear and moved silently over to the group. Head down as she quietly made her way over, she tilted her angelic face up at them.
"Sorry to intrude...but...umm...Corporal Punishment sent me...to find you guys. Umm...my name is Celestra Desmonte, please call me Celes. I'm...i'm a fellow cadet..."she trailed off, obviously nervous.
Her ice blue eyes met each of theirs, a mix of soft shyness and slight defiance. She rubbed absently at her arm.
"Well...i found you but he didn't give me any other orders...so now I'm at a loss of what to do?"she smiled lightly.
She waited until the others were out of earshot.
"A team man, that's all I'm saying." She placed one hand on her hip, the other balancing Topper by the carry handle. "Being solo is one thing, been there and done that. Just give the team, or at least me, some warning next time. When I'm laying fire, I need to know what's happening. I try hard not to hit friendlies."
She stared at him, or at least faced him, her eyes had no pupils to tell what she looked at. "You got powers, some can heal, some make your brain go mushy. Me? I got Topper and no matter what those two over-zealous boys say, this ain't no game. I stop nasties as I can, and rubber bullets don't even slow Vamps or Tankers. They got no problem dropping one of us, feel the same back."
She held the coin out again, in an open palm the size of a dinner plate. "The coin is yours to take, if you do," she cautioned, "it means I can trust you, and you me. Not mad you used your powers, 's what heroes do. Just asking you to call it next time."
Lord Raymond stopped breifly, seeing that Mended Ribs had arrived. Lord Raymond was shocked. He had never seen someone so happy to be fighting. Sure Raymond enjoyed sometimes, but not like Alan.
"Glad you could make it friend. I was beginning to think you wouldn't make it in time."
Just then a troll had climbed up from the ground behind Raymond and pointed a machine gun directly into Lord Raymond's back.
The Troll laughed,"Me have you now!"
Raymond smiled and said "You must be new to the Trolls, otherwise you would know that I don't take kindly to cheap tricks. But if you are going to shoot me go ahead."
The Troll pulled the trigger and the bullet shattered upon impact on Raymond's hardened rock armor.
"Well isn't that a shame. Unfortunately for you there chap that my armor is its strongest right on my back. Better luck next time."
Lord Raymond turned, saw that the young troll was in shock after the failed shot and reared back for a golf-style swing of his axe.
"FORE!" yelled Raymond cheerfully as he smacked the troll clear off the building and over two more before the troll laded in front of the entrance to East Gate, where a police drone was in place.
"Oh shucks, looks like he won't be having a next time."
