Quote:That's too bad, Sacred. When we ran it, I think we had five, maybe six, members of the SG. When we ran into our clones at the end, several of us shouted "Vines!" and about four of those hit the clones, some with Domination on. None made it out of the holds.Just checking in on this thread. Makes it easier for me to see. Greetings and welcome. To all who are interested in the SG, I'm on for a couple of hours everyday. My Global is Heavy Epsilon. Feel free to fling an in game email at me and I'll see about getting you on board. I figure this will relieve some of the recruitment pressure from Loupy and wtwall01.
Also, the base.... she is complete... for now. We can manage 4 more teleporter pods in the room we have now. If we want all 22 locations, we will need a larger base footprint. If you have any suggestions, send an email to my Global.
Funny story; I tried to run the first half of the Positron TF. We started out a team of 7. Two scrappers, a blaster, three Controllers (myself included), and a fantastic Tank. By the last mission, we were 5, the three controllers, one scrapper, and the tank. We suffered a team wipe during the ambush before you enter city hall causing the tank to rage quit. But the remaining 4 pressed on.
We easily dispatched the baddies in the lobbies through prodigious use of confuses and then got trampled by our shadow clones. Of which there were 5 the controllers, a scrapper and a tank. Upon out return from the hospital, we encountered a glitch in the game. The shadow villain of the tank, who had rage quit, was transformed into another copy of myself. The resulting mag of incoming confuses was too much for our little band and we had to abandon the TF.
It was, however, a valiant effort. -
Quote:Thanks for the advice on the water cooling system; it sounds like I don't need that. Is the following fan okay instead? I never thought there'd be so many fans to choose from. I'd prefer to use one that's fairly quiet, so I picked one that indicated that.Crossfire and SLI are AMD and Nvidia's (respectively) tech for using multiple video cards to improve video performance, primarily in games. CoH, as yet, doesn't support either technology. They have done some work in that direction I believe but not much has come of it so far. So, for right now, they don't matter. But if you think you might upgrade to a multi-GPU setup somewhere down the road, then supporting both isn't a bad idea.
Whether the Lucid Virtu is of value to you will depend on whether you'll take advantage of it or not. And it's still probably more a 'nice to have' than a 'need' even then.
I will note you picked a water cooling system. Personally, I wouldn't. Unless you're massively concerned about noise from fans, it's totally unecessary. Water coolers are more for doing big overclocks or going for quiet/silent systems. The average user doesn't need one. You can do just fine on air cooling. Water systems take more maintenance since you're basically attaching a small radiator to your case. So there's the potential for leaks and the need to keep your coolant levels topped up periodically. Just food for thought.
In any case, I have no doubt the system you picked will run CoH in all it's UM glory without a hitch.

Quote:Thanks much, Father Xmas! When I look at the web page, I see this: [CrossFireX/SLI] Asus P8Z68 Deluxe Intel Z68 ATX Mainboardw/ BT GO! Lucid Virtu, IntelSRT & 7.1 HD Audio, Dual GbLAN, IEEE 1394a, USB3.0, SATA-III RAID, 3 Gen2 PCIe X16, 2 PCIe X1 & 2 PCI (All Venom OC Certified) [+178].It's not bad. I probably pick a different motherboard, one that supports both SLi as well as CrossfireX (to cover all the bases) and includes Lucid Virtu support (for high speed video transcoding) but that's me.
If all you ever plan to do is to use one high end video card it's fine.
Should I go for that instead, or is what I have sufficient? My main goal, like I said, is to seamlessly run ultra mode. COH is probably the only game I'll play. -
Thanks for the info on overclocking, Back. Based on what you said, that doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in.
Any chance anyone could give me some thoughts on this machine? I'd think it'd be more than enough to run Ultra mode, but I haven't bought a computer in so long. That leaves me a bit unsure.

Our horticultarists valiantly accepted the challenge of saving Paragon's dam. With just FOUR of us (our Spines scrapper had a nasty disconnect right before we faced off against Dr. Vahzilok, and Sacred had an emergency draw her away), we took down Dr. Vahzilok and his cronies. The good Doctor put up a valiant fight, but with two Plant/Rads painting him with debuffs, and two dominators (Plant/Fire and Plant/Elec) pelting him with attacks, Vahz didn't stand a chance. He vollied a few threatening shots at us, but our three spirit trees quickly replenished our strength.
As for next time, I'm going to lead a Synapse TF this coming Wednesday. We'll gather at 7:30 PM Eastern or so. Level 15 minimum required to join. As usual, all are welcome. If you indicate that you'll be joining here, I'll save you a spot until 8 PM Eastern or so; otherwise first come first serve! -

No worries, Sacred...things like that come up. We'll be seeing you next time.

Hello computer experts!
Well, the Dell laptop I use for playing City of Heroes (now 3+ years old) is no longer cutting it. I've been putting off getting a new computer for awhile now, but I've put up with my last reboot due to the laptop overheating.
I'm not completely computer illiterate, but picking a gaming computer seems very, very intimidating. I've looked at CyberpowerPC and all of the options are overwhelming. I found the guide for this and have attached it below. I'm not sure if this is keeping with forum decorum, but if anyone out there put up a link to a system that would be good for my needs, I would be very appreciated.
1) What will you primarily be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Primarily City of Heroes gaming. I've never played in Ultra mode, and would love to do that regularly. As for my other computing, I'll store the lionshare of my itunes on my laptop. Probably a little web browsing and printing, but this will mostly be a game machine.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
I'd like to keep it at 1500-ish. Maximum is 2000. I'm frugal, though, so 1000-1500 is best. That budget includes the computer only. I'll need other components as well, but I'll worry about those on a separate budget.
3) Where do you live? This is important as it affects what vendors you may buy from and how much shipping costs might be.
Central time zone, United States.
4) Are you planning to buy or build?
Buy.
5) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need. If you're unsure what exactly you need, say so.
Not exactly sure. It needs to be a complete system. I only need help now for the computer system, so CPU, RAM, case, etc.
6) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
I won't be reusing any parts.
7) Will you be overclocking?
Not exactly sure what this means. I'm open to the option.
8) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
I have a 19 inch monitor right now. I'll probably use it for now until I can get another one, but it'll stay 19-21 inch or so.
9) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
I'd like to purchase within the next month and a half.
10) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.
I have no idea.
11) Any specific must-have features? Must be able to max out Ultra-Mode? Must have 6+GB of RAM? Must have an SSD? etc.
I'd like to play in Ultra mode. Max out would be nice, but is not absolutely necessary.
12) Are there any vendors/brands you'd specifically prefer to use?
Nope, although I've heard good things about CyberpowerPC.
13) Are there any vendors/brands you'd specifically prefer to avoid?
I'd like to stay away from Dell, Gateway, etc. Looking for something with a little higher gaming horsepower than those systems.
14) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit? (Note: If your current OS came with your computer, odds are that it is NOT transferable.)
Nope, I'm using this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 too. I'll buy that separately, though, as I think I can get a good discount on it via work. -

I'll approve the add when I get home, Death, and welcome to the team! If your alt is unencumbered, I'll invite to the SG as well.
-
Most of us are now in the 20s-30s. We'll be playing again next Saturday, but in the meantime, I'm planning on running a Posi Part II tonight with my alt for the SG. We'll launch sometime between 6-7 PM Eastern. All who are level 11 or above are welcome. And if you have a plant alt that's not a member of our SG, you can join as well, space permitting.

Fantastic work on the base, Sacred. And there's an identical thread to this one on the Freedom server page. I tend to update that one and this thread, just to keep people from both apprised of what's going on.
To that end, I'm going to run a Posi Part II tonight, probably starting at around 6-7 PM Eastern. All those who would like to join are welcome. You must be Level 11 to join. -
Mind posting your build, Crysys? I have a Plant/Fire/Fire (my main) that I haven't been able to get capped range defense on, despite my best efforts.

Just an FYI, fellow gardeners: I won't be in attendance this Saturday due to work matters. Nearly everyone that's been playing semi-regularly/regularly with us is now in the SG, so it shouldn't be difficult to get an invite on Saturday without me there. If you aren't, though, @Loupy (El Arbusto) will be running things in my absence, so direct a note to him and you should be okay. Happy Hunting!
PS: Our ranks continue to swell, and one of our greenthumbs is working on a base for our group. More to come on that later. -

We had another great week, fellow gardeners. Our SG, Garden State, is growing fast. This week, we took down the Midnighter arc (in anticipation of that ITF someday) and then undertook Positron Part I. Even exemped down to 15, and without our shiny new SO slotting, we sailed to the last mission, saved the trapped heroes, and fought our way through waves and waves of Circle of Thorns. After breaching City Hall, we spotted our duplicates guarding Azaria's kidnapper. With a desperate cry of "Vines!", all of our duplicates were seized simultaneously...and then quickly dispatched. Azaria's kidnappers soon followed.
We'll be playing again next week--2:00 PM Eastern, Saturday July 23. Most of us are somewhere between Levels 24-26. Again, so long as you're blue side, you can join at any level. And we'll be playing sporadically in the interim, per usual. -

Wow, welcome all newcomers! I'll respond to each of you (and might overlap a bit with the esteemed Loupy; just want to make sure I cover everyone).
Bas: Up to 20 isn't mandatory or anything, especially if you run a controller and start heroside. As long as you are on that side, you can join us at any level. If you don't mind, put up your global name here and I'll add you. That way you can join us sporadically when a chunk of us happen to be on.
Sacred: I'll add your global next time I'm on---more than likely this Friday---and we'll get your alt added to the SG. I'm the guy you more than likely want to talk to for the invite, and I'll be sure to get you set up. If I'm late and Loupy already invited you (he might have invite privileges; not 100 percent sure), just disregard that. As for events, I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean gatherings where we try to get as many on as possible, we have a general set time of 2 PM Eastern on Saturdays. Other than that, we just play sporadically when people can get others to switch to their planters. If you mean events like task forces and the like, I'm tentatively planning on putting our team through at least Posi part 1 this Saturday.
Tahl: I'd say most of us are in the 19-24 zone, with more on the upper end of that range. If you run a controller and go blue side, which I'd recommend, level won't matter; you can join us at any level outside of some limitations for TFs. Either a kin or an emp would be welcome.
Whew, that was a bunch of responses. If I missed any questions, please let me know. Again, welcome to the Garden State. -

Things are progressing swimmingly for our cadre of gardeners. The vast majority of us hit Level 20 this week, and we are now turning our sights to heroside. If you missed this week, please go on ahead and work to get your alts up to Level 20. Head over to heroside/Talos Island at your earliest opportunity.
As all of you travel to heroside, keep an eye out for a tell for me. I've created us a Supergroup--Garden State--and will be inviting you as I spot you online. I'm also editing the original post for this, just to flag our milestone travel over to Talos and the creation of our SG.
Happy gardening! -
