Seeing a whole bunch of posts by the same person in a row reminds of KaliMagdelene. What ever happened to her?

Quote:A new interface is a great idea, a series of drop down menus to sort by origin and DO/SO and level is a great quality of life improvement for everybody.I'm still not seeing a problem. And I know you weren't referring to yourself, but since you apparently see all sorts of problems that indicate a very short attention span, where I never experienced them, you had me wondering.
The only change that wouldn't be a huge amount of effort compared to the small problem that I can see, would be a better interface for shops.
One were all the enhancements were divided by type (TO, DO,SO) and then by origin under different tabs or something. So you don't have to deal with a huge list.
I'm not opposed to renaming all the SOs and DOs or whatever. I just really don't see the need for it.
Renaming SOs would be a different job, that wouldn't change my experience with the game but if someone ever gets the job of fixing the typos in the dialogue in this game maybe that person could change the names of some of the more vague names found in the enhancements. -
Quote:Every refer a friend promotion Cryptic ran, I sent out those invites. People responded and came and played for two weeks. I couple stayed for almost 3 years. Each one of them asked me what origin they should be. Joining the game that way doesn't get you the little book you and I got when we bought the game. They get a PDF and they should read it front to back but it dosen't change the fact that when a friend asks me what origin they should be, and I know that first time though the game slotting is more confusing being Science instead of being Mutation I'm not being a very good friend if I tell them it doesn't matter. I realize my friends, who aren't knuckle dragging idiots, each of them knows how to read, is going to look at the description of a Mutation SO and know right off the bat what it is going to enhance and if I tell him it doesn't matter pick any origin and once he realizes that Mutation has every thing you need to know right in the title and Science makes you click, and click to get the same information they are gonna want to know why I didn't tell them that.
The one that has electricity around its border. You know, like the City of Heroes manual said over six years ago. At no point are the names of enhancements even in the slightest important. Enhancement border tells you its origin and enhancement colour tells you its type. Unless you're colour blind or have incredibly poor vision, neither of those is all that hard.
And if you MUST have help, all the stores up to level 30 also sell Training enhancements, so you can pick the colour of the enhancement from those and search for it in the DO/SO pile.
Enhancement colours are very distinct between each other, with only a select few being close. Defence and resistance are almost the same, but in different parts of the list, the colour of slows looks like of like the colour of immobilizes, jump looks kind of like intangibility and run and fly kind of look the same. But even then, that's one choice between two colours. Even with the pop-up not functioning, it's hardly a titanic effort.
All of that said, I'm not saying the store interface can't or shouldn't be improved. But you're presenting new players as some kind of knuckle-dragging idiots, which most of them are not.
My nephew is 10, getting him to read the word resistance isn't too much of a problem. Hiding that word behind something named Argon Experiment to creating a problem. -
Quote:There's no trick question, I'm going on an on about how screwed up the names of Science SOs are by comparing one to a Mutation SO for the second time. Notice how the Mutation SO lists what part of a power gets an enhanced right in the title and the Science one doesn't.
Argon Experiment? Is there a trick question in there somewhere that I'm missing?
I say steer the newbies to an origin that makes the most sense the fastest.
Quote:If you as a team leader are 'inconvenienced' by a new player learning the game, you need to get over yourself. If they ask me I'll explain it all or I'll even go buy the things for them, from my own money if they can't afford it.
People don't have a problem with reading and clicking once or twice, they do get turned off by having to do too much of it at once. I say telling a newbie to roll Mutation is doing a newbie a favour, less reading and clicking will mean more fun.
Quote:Seriously? You got ADD or something?
The next time the Devs release an expansion a little more thought about new players takes place, and what can be down to make it easier. Leveling faster is great, having stamina for free is super. DOs that drop in Praetoria are almost always an origin the player can use (only got 2 so far I couldn't use). Base Accuracy is higher for lowbies. All great changes that should help get new subscribers to stick around. Altering the origin system so it doesn't have such a stupid effect as locking you into using DOs with such undescriptive names is the next QOL change for newbies the Devs should address. Or we the player base could spred the word to newbies that Mutation is a less annoying origin to be your first couple times alting through the game.
Of course if the player is planning on being Trick Arrow someone should explain which origin powers light OSA and which don't. I'd have to Wiki it since I have Nem Staff to light my OSA. -
Things you can't immoblize can be a shock.
Minions of Igneous
Ancestral Spirits
In CoV you never saw a lot of doms, (I really hope the dom changes and being able to play blueside fixes that) but when I did see Doms on the second treespec of players I didn't actually know, I was never surprised to find out they didn't know the mushrooms on the ground are screwing with them the most. -

You have your vet blinders on take them off.
Damage resistance SOs are closer to the greenest color on the list or the darkest blue color on the list? Person buys GR, in 30 days they have to decide to resub or leave. The amount of time spent opening up two pop ups is going to cut down on the time they spend enjoying the game.
Catalyst: Improved Resistance
Argon Experiment
Which one of those is Science?
Do you think its polite or impolite for a team member to be afk from the team for 5 minutes in order to level and shop and enhance. What if it takes them 10 minutes is it okay. What if its a couple of players afk for that long. When a new player has to spend the time reading all that info they may not realize they are an inconvience possibly to the team. If my team leader has decided its polite to wait for everyone before we even enter a mission and I think we should wait for noone, I'm gonna be polite and go with the leaders wishes but I hope that newbie doesn't have to find what he wants listed in the science section cause its gonna take them longer to find it. -
Quote:We should ask those people who bought GR and will never become 3 month vets what problems they had with DOs and the origin system. They might say the fact you need to click the enhancements in the store and from the menu that pops up click info. That whole process is time consuming and unfun. I'm sure having all the origins in one store is great, but making new players scroll through 10 different sets when there are only 5 origins seems like it creates a waste of time. Do you think new players get mad when they buy a DO they can't even slot? A DO they can't even afford since they don't have enough money to slot everything in the first place?
I really don't see the problems people are having with the SO's ... You can read right? Just hover over the enhancement and read the stats.
Enhancements are great, I love the systems the Devs have devolped but you think people having problems with enhancements is cause they can't read. Think for a second how other MMOs use a system where you drag a sword onto a picture of a hand and a pair of boots onto their feet and you're done enhancing. It's a very user friendly system, user friendly stream lines fun. Having to click on items in a crappy UI so you can click again in order to read if you can even slot this item is not maximizing the fun for new players.
Awakening: Endurance Modification
WetWare Eng Hyperkinetic Polymer
Guess which of those is Science?
Which of those two names would be easier for a new player to fiqure out what it does? -
If someone is new to the game and asked me which origin is best I will tell noobs just don't pick Science. At some point new players are going to have to learn what color enhancements do what, having to do that while dechipering the messed up names science SOs have is cruel.
Back when you had to unlock a contact so you could get access to endmod and travel DO/SOs science contacts made you fight Vahz, which back then had Toxic attacks that didn't have a postional vector attached to the attack. Ranged defense did noting against toxic spit.
I just always pick natural these days. I've been every origin in Paragon and every origin in the Isles, natural stores in my experience are more accessible then other origins. Such as being closer to a trainer. When you could only get one jetpack and you wanted to make that jetpack last as long as possible, the distance between the trainer and your store is an important factor in deciding origin. -
Interesting news...
No mention of the next booster? -
Just about every power in Dark Blast can be for slotted with an IO set that will grant 6.25%
recharge bonus. Super cheap way to get recharge.
Since you don't have a tier 3 blast being able to use the snipe in combat can really help. The quicker you get a mob under 50% health the sooner the chance for Scrouge will start kicking in. Torrent and the Nem vet staff really help with getting your snipe off in combat. Anything you knockback, you have time to hit them with your snipe.
Dark Blast is such a fast set that anything you knockback, you have enough time to use any 2 dark blaster powers (snipe and nova excluded). If you charge a mob (start small) hit them with Torrent, you have time to hit them with Tentacles and Night Fall. Before they have a chance to attack back you've stacked over a 20% tohit debuff.
The heal, it's cool but if you're about to die and Life Drain or a green inspirations is possibly your last choice before you rez, go for the inspiration first. It's not a strong enough heal to save your life.
Vet Attacks and snipe is the fastest way for you to get in scourge territory, but once the mob is under half I'd recommend a chain Dark Blast, Gloom, Dark Blast. At this point consider if there are other duties you need to attend too. Does someneed a buff? Should I use tentalces? etc.
If the most important task you have is killing the guy you're already shooting, take a quick look and see if you have a vet attack recharged. If you do look for the next guy you plan on killing and hit them. Get a head start on the next guy getting below 50% health. Tab back to your first target and finish them off with a chain of Dark Blast, Gloom, Dark Blast.
Dark Blast has slow projectiles, the damage is applied to the enemy towards the end of the animation where sets like Dual Pistols and Fire deliver the damage more towards the middle of the animation. There's also DoT in Gloom and it can make judging if an attack has killed an enemy hard at times. There's gonna be days you shoot a lot of dead enemies. If Dark blasters get in the habit of every time they think of using Gloom, checking to see if Dark Blast is recharged in order to start a Dark Blast,Gloom, Dark Blast chain.
With Dark Blast you'll spend a lot of time doing things with your AOEs and your secondary, but in between all that you'll have single target attacking to get done. Stinking to that attack chain is going to allow you to get out the most damage and a big 20% -tohit in the briefest amount of time.
Dark Blast is a great set, I think it's so great it would be overpowered if ported to Blasters as is. The problem is if you take anything out it would be ruin the set. Unless the blaster got a tier 3 blast and Aim in return, then maybe it would be a good blaster set. I'd still prefer dark blast on a corrupter over a blaster.
I previewed the post and had to login so I need to end this post. -
I tried to go but I thought it would be really funny to put a bunch of water ballons full of enriche in a cardboard box with a mailing address to markus cole on it. I planned on reporting it as a suspicous package, everyone would have a laugh and then later, with some luck and verbal proding someone would get drunk and throw it at some other drunk and everyone would, and I guarentee everyone would ROFL all over.
So I got this box of water ballons on the Bart, and they transit cops start giving me the evil eye. I got off at the embarcadero station and when I realize how far of a walk that is I toss several ballons into a trashcan.
Security freaks out, whats in ballons, we heard you tell that lady it was a society numbing chemical, show us your ID, how long have you been in the city?
I had to call my brother, have him show the police his ID in order for me to be released into his custody. My brother was so burnt he went the long way home just so we wouldn't pass anywhere near that part of town since he knew I'd beg him to let me out so I could go to the Meet and Greet -
my dad collected comics during the late 60s and early 70s (before he had kids and had to start buying things like diapers) I learned how to read from those comics and I can tell you that Lee was writing awesome comics without Kirby being employed at Marvel.
-
Quote:Oh this is stuff Lee did when he was old, I thought maybe Lee had moved to DC back in the day. Kirby did a lot of great stuff when he went to DC, I thought maybe there was a period back then when Stan went to DC and put his then creative juices into DC comics for a while. If you must. This was before I was into comics very much, and even then I knew it was pretty badly received. Here
I think Stan Lee did an outstanding job on comics when he was young but he is old and out of touch with what young comic readers want. -
Maybe evolution should be a origin, in the Marvel universe mutants (xmen) are the next stage in human evolution.

Cohupdater.exe is what will download the pre-patch. If you're bypassing the updater and using cityofheroes.exe to log directly into the game you will not start the pre-patch download.

There's a Dev Meet and Greet in 7 or 8 hours, I'm sure they'll have an announcement on open beta and live release of I19 timeline at that time.

Quote:They would have an easier time than a Blaster/Defender/Corruptor but I think it would still be hard. Ignite has a 4ft radius so you've got to get the group of enemies into melee range of each other immobilize them and then use ignite. It's possible but it means the dominator has to spend time herding the enemies before locking them down. At that point I'm inclined to say they deserve the damage.
its an 8ft diameter, and if a mob has a foot in that diameter they take damage.
My AR/Ice has no problem hitting 4 with Ignite and I only have Ice Patch and Shiver to keep them in place, I don't see how you could imagine corner pulling with an AR dom to maximize Ignite (and all your other aoes) would be hard. And it doesn't take much longer then it takes for ignite to animate to set it up. -
Quote:you don't think a dom or troller couldn't get 5 targets locked down inside the ignite patch?
In practice however the tiny radius and the fact that it's a patch power means that it functions as a single target attack (maybe two targets if you can get them close and keep them immobilized). -
Replace Full Auto with Flamethrower so we have a way to ignite the Napalm.
Trip Mine seems really out of place in a control set.
Gun Drone would need some powers added to it. Have it cycle through burst, buckshot and beanbag. And it should have a big explosion that does damage to enemies when it dies. -
I think something westerners overlook when viewing Japaneses advancement in robotics is the role Shinto plays in the overall acceptance of robots in that society. The Shinto religion, in very general terms applies spirituality to all things. Japanesse make the leap to machines having souls rather easily.
I'm not to sure if Taoism and Confucianism make those leaps so quickly and strongly but that whole region is moving towards an integration of robotics into daily life whereas the United States is really spending the majority of money in robotic developmental in weapon systems. I have to wonder if in say 200 years Hinduism evolves to the point where being reincarnated as an artificial machine is viewed as the natural cycle of life.
Super interesting book on the subject is Wired for War by PW Singer. -
It's a Telepresence Robot. The idea is one of these will be in an old persons home and a trained human health professional will log in to the robot and interact with the homeowner.
Its a robot but its also a glorified phone.
It's when technology gets to this point

I'm gonna be super freaked out. -
Quote:So when we beat Rommi do we also defeat the nictus that Rommi is talking to in that cut scene?I'd like to point out that it's a Nictus without a host, and with nothing around it to allow it to exist for more than a moment without one.
Romulis is taken off guard when it merges with him, so he's never seen it do that before. He's used to it being the floating ball of dark energy, despite the lack of life support.
A normal Nictus can't do that. A normal Nictus can't splinter off parts of itself and then reabsorb them to revive its host. If there's an Incarnate level Nictus, that one's it.
