  1. Well thx for all the advice but I decided to cash it in. While there are a lot of aspect to this game that I find enjoyable two things simply spoil it for me.

The biggest is the poor navigational instructions many of these quests have, this being the latest. If there is a secret tunnel that leads to the door to the quest then at least SAY SO in the quest description. Other quests say you need to wipe out every one, when you don't, yet some would say to kill the boss, but they mean kill the boss and everyone else in the instance.

The fact that I could get no response from the four or so channels I tried (or couldn't join) negates the very reason to have this form of public communication. It was very jarring for me to see such a paucity of chatter in the chat window compared to other MMOs. Apparently that occurs on other channels but not the public ones (e.g. Broadcast). I'm not saying this is bad; but for me it simply doesn't work.

I would surmise that for other ppl who come into this game cold, with no posse to help them navigate the pitfalls that await a noob, this is not a good thing. If the brass who pay attention to subscription rates read this; they might want to take note of this. CoH is a mature game in that the bulk of the player base has been around for a while and already know the ins and outs of just about every aspect except the new stuff. They also have a pretty good support system with their buds who have been at it for a while as well. It's easy therefore to get complacent about quest flows and design.

Of the several MMOs that I have played and discarded over the years this one saddens me the most because I liked the playbility of my characters, the crafting, and the market and on those occasions when the quests were laid out well how well they worked out. There was just too many of these kinds of issues and my blood pressure already requires medication. It's just sad.
  2. Dunno about a neighborhood but it's that big island on the north end of the map and the mark is in the middle. The odd thing is the mobs in the vicinity are all about 3-4 levels above my level. Odd place to put down a marker.
  3. I am (was) trying to get to a quest location that turns out to be 39 yards below ground on an island. There are no caves, tunnels, ravines, etc. Just a whole lot of ground and no way to get to where the arrow points (like the entry fell below the collision plane).

That is one issue, but what seems to be really puzzling is that there is no way to raise anyone's attention. I tried the help channel but there are too many members. I tried the NPC (mentor) channel but no one answers. I tried one called PinnBadges because it had a lot of members (I am on the Pinnacle server) and I am not permitted to submit a post.

The several MMO games I have/do play have a relatively lively stream of chat going on; CoH seems to be strangely quiet and awfully hard to get someone to answer when you have a problem like the one I mentioned. (I had hoped someone ran into the same issue and had a solution). So the dumb question is: how do you get the chat thing to work?

If someone has an idea on the original problem, I am all ears, er eyes. The quest is "Kill Ether and her guards" on Nerva Archipelago.

I'd also suggest joining the Mentor Project global channel, which is mentioned in my signature below. It is a cross-server channel, and there are always experienced players available to answer questions.

Thanks I will look into the Mentoring Project!
  6. I went into the bank. There were two guards, a spate of citizens and three tellers behind the desk. All were terrified and although the instructions were to speak to a teller none would talk to me. Apparently neither would the chat channels or the GM. I could get no help. This is my last hope for a viable solution.
  7. Does anybody answer broadcasts? I posted a question twice and no one answered. I noticed there is virtually no chatter at all. I also saw the help channel was clogged and I couldn't join? Is this the de rigeur for this server? For this game? How is someone supposed to get help? The GMs may or may not answer but that doesn't help when the quest appears bugged. Just curious
  8. Thank you all for your candor. There is no activity vis a vis chatter or requests on the server I am on so, again, I hate begging. This is one area we will have to just disagree on.

But what really give me the red @$$ about this is the game's closing off a quest line that gives a prereq to something else, particularly when there is no hint of it happening ahead of time. This is, like the rest, undocumented. Had I known that the metagame clears outlevelled questlines AND that this drawing was necessary to fulfill a quest later on, I would have been more attentive to that detail. Neither aspect was known to me and I dsicovered the former at level 20 when a contact was no longer available and I found out the latter by blundering through it on a wiki.

I got this game about three weeks ago and this incident is the latest in a long line of aggravations generated not by the game, but by the metagame (i.e., the mechanics of gameplay and game flow). It's a pity, I rather liked the other aspects of the game. Comparatively speaking it far exceeds the others like this including the DC thing I beta tested. But these gotchas give me the slow burn. I feel like I'm Charlie Brown and this is the football. Sorry.
  9. I am sure this is true. I am not sanguine about any of it. And, as I have said, I am not about to sit on a street corner with a cup and a sign that says: "will work for portal". Nor am I willing to wait until I get to 40 to get in to the PvP area just to get sandbagged again by something else.
  10. How do u get there? I went to Grandville and the portal is closed. I really think they shouldn't close off prereqs like this.
  11. In quite random browsing of the wikis I ran across this as a precondition of getting to Ourboros, itself a precondition to getting the Alpha Slot. Apparently the easiest way to get it is to complete a quest which is now cut off because I am levelled up to high. This makes the whole chain moot. Am I supposed to start over? Beg a stranger to port me to Ourboros to get an explorer badge? I find this extremely disheartening and would like to know, short of those multiplayer quests at the high end of levelling, or the aforemention begging (which I will not do), is there a way of getting from where I am to where I need to be. Or have I wasted my time?
  12. I found that the winter quest is less of a fun diversion and more of a costly chore. I want to abandon the quest and there is no way to do so because the abandon button is greyed out. Will this disappear in two days or must I suffer its presence in the todo queue?
