Quote:who said they are serving willingly? the hero may be that dominating that they can force demons and zombies to serve and defeat evil, maybe even in a nonlethal way, because they are THAT good.Demons & Zombies Blue-side!?!?...When GR goes live, I'm gonna have a really hard time seeing demons & zombies running around Paragon City! Granted, I'm a nobody and I'm not saying you shouldn't be able too. I'm just saying, I'm gonna be watching you! 8)
heck, if you want to get a bit specific, in the bible, the followers of..the j-man were given the ability to command demons, so who is to say that a really really pious person isnt using the strength of their faith to command the demons to do good? And if anime is anyway accurate, Buddhist priests can occasionally placate demons and turn them to doing good. so maybe that zombie is really a yokai. My current demon mm is a demon who is repenting her actions during the fall after seeing the human suffering she sees in the rogue isles.(re-conceptualized as a philosophical discussion rather than a military battle) and she is the unwilling leader of a group of repentant demons seeking redemption by hunting down the evil unleashed by the ban pan and cot. So she can be a bit emo, but certainly within the standards of comics with a repenting hero, though she has a great deal more of a sense of humor than speedball/penance. -
actually, yeah, i re-edited the post to mention areas, rather than zones, the chinatown or kheldia would be better in existing zones, just take a corner that isnt used for anything in steel, cap or such and redo it. I'd really prefer to cool it on the zones and just revamp existing zones, at least blueside, otherwise you dilute the population too much .

i find your ideas persuasive and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. however, may i ammend ,more costume pieces included in the issues, i buy the boosters, but i feel awkward talking to a new player who likes my costume, and i have to tell him/her that they have to spend 80 bucks to emulate my full look(5 boosters, wedding, justice/sinister and valk), and lets not get into the vet stuff. maybe give some cool stuff away here and there again, its been a bit too long.

Quote:well, while we wont have proper movement on all fours, I am piqued by some of davids comments about new animation stuff. we have ninja run, and the growl animation gets us on all 4's, sooo, i wouldn't DEMAND it, maybe not even expect it, but i wouldn't be completely surprised by it, lets put it that way. pouncing seems to be unlikely though, since apparently we cant have targeted lunge moves, at least they couldn't pull it off with their initial idea for shield charge. i dont rule stuff out, but like long skirts/robes, i would be pleasantly surprised.you don't see animals because the skeletal system does not support animal frames.
Granted I wish my kitty girls would get down on all fours to scamper around, and that I'd have pouncing animations and... wait, phone's ringing...
what... BaB's wants to see me? Out back? In a Dark Alley? At midnight? Are you sure? Can't I at least bring some backup?
as for stuff i'd like, most likely not going to happen buut.
1. grappling. i wanna hip throw a baddie across the room.
2. china-town area, with high tech tong members and traditional supernatural and wushu themed enemies. japanese would also be welcomed in a separate zones (maybe a Korean one would be appropriate, given the publisher, id be totally on board for that).
3. more diverse city zones. primary schools, churches/synagogues/mosques, grocery stores, a mall, martial arts dojos, a library, a gym, a fire station in steel canyon..maybe badge and a fireman's hat too?
4. more martial arts animations, also more animations for elemental styles.
5. rayguns, man do i want a raygun buff/blast set. go oldschool sci fi, freeze beam, weakening ray, shrink ray may be off the table, but a gun that can turn enemies into rikti monkeys...i want.
6. a dinosaur zone.
7. as mentioned above, lunge moves, a jumping side kick to fly at enemies for ma would be niice.
8. Fredvard mention a little kheldia area in another thread, that idea was really good, would give background info for khelds, and would give the game flavor.
9. destructable buildings in mayhem missions. was thinking, this would be nice, use the degradation from fires to specific buildings in mayhems, and let villains smash...jsut tone down the zone of death when they go down.
10. customizable emanation points for some blasts, wands, rayguns, hands/head/mouth/eyes, for sonic a vuvuzela. -
Quote:Well, we dont have dragons(well, we have lots of player character dragons, my main is one actually, thats the good thing about the costume creator, there arent really many limits of what you can be here ,unless your concept is really narrow.), but wait till you see a malta titan, big..honking..robot. and then you see a kronos version of one, and the regular ones start looking small again, and next month we will have a massive inter-dimensional godlike monster that smashed a version of earth into pieces coming back as an enemy in a upper level raid, he is ginormous ...Mysterious coincidences!
Shortly after Blizzard announced this, I was asking a friend who plays CoH for information, and he pointed me at this thread. By a further amazing coincidence, a couple of hours later I had a trial account.
I may well end up resubbing to WoW, depending on how the rest of this plays out, but I am thus far finding CoH an interesting change. It's a hard sell for me, though, because fundamentally I want to kill internet dragons.(and yeah, i know its a meme,, but i do like our scale of giant monsters, we have a lot)
and yeah, for the making of lemons to lemonade thing, let us know if you have questions or can help your enjoyment, a lot of people like helping, can even get you our global name so you can talk to us (when we are on)from any server.
oh, one other suggestion, make a villain and do some mayhem missions. you get to smash up several city blocks, crush some cars, destroy bus stops, punch out pay phones, and mash a truck for good measure. -

Quote:the multi missles would get me to take it, even on characters who it wouldnt thematically fit, oldschool robotech fan here, and the multi missles would be great.Alternate LRM animation, I really dont care for it when my guy pulls out a gun (be it the super soaker or otherwise), I'd really like to see a back pack type of launcher with multiple missles (ala' the Malta Titans) or maybe something sourced from the gauntlets like the mini missiles seen in IM1.

Quote:I don't have a stake in this as a player, in fact im probably more well known for disliking wow for reasons that have been discussed already and dont need rehashing, so count the bias, but i see hyper's point, they did listen, but only after a cataclysmic (hu-hu) pr reaction. admittedly they COULD have blundered on and committed pr suicide, but this is a pyrric victory at best.Uhm. WHY?
Seriously. They went and pulled a massive, PUBLIC cranio-rectal insertion maneuver.
They then got bitchsmacked by a very vocal portion of their userbase and lost a not-isignificant number of subscriptions over this.
They also got handed a large, slimy poop sandwich by several large media outlets about it too.
So, under threat of collapsing their paying playerbase, they caved.
Why exactly should they get kudos for this?
They shot themselves in the foot, then resolved not to do that again with their other foot. At least just yet...
That's NOT something deserving of an "attaboy".
but again, i freely admit my bias. I was noting that this, going on around the time we should start advertising going rogue would have perhaps helped coh, as Kali has mentioned, the bad taste still is in players mouths, but maybe a full on pr suicide would have netted us more subscribers.
I still feel bad for the poor guy that put his name up, blizz better compensate that kind of loyalty now that he left...if his superiors didnt order it in the first place.
one last time, remember, i am biased as heck. -
as i always ask, are you on your global channel? the instanced nature of the game makes things look very empty. That said, I would prefer things be a great deal more full, but since a lot of people from the forums have commented that their friends are waiting for going rogue, we will have a clearer picture when that goes live.
I know at the zeb the zombie hunter event on liberty the zone was packed, and this was at 3pm pacific durning the weekday, and our msr's spawn extra instances of the rwz, and lib is not a traditionally high pop server. -

Quote:for clarity, sword 2 is granado espada, they are kind of re-releasing it. didnt care much for it myself, but its not horrid, and the art is amazing, id love for Cheryl, jay, and Dave to raid their costumes ruthlessly, thats our victorian booster right there. but a few of us were suggesting this. Could even make it funny put it like "at paragon studios, we will keep your information VERY secure, and then do a big pic of lord recluse, noble savage and WAR Witch standing facing out to the reader looking menacing, as if guarding the player's id's. It is comic booky, both plays up the lack of blizzards folly and emphasizes our characters.
EDIT: ok, we could still use this. there wills till be bad pr reverberations. -
woah tiger, Rationally speaking, its very unlikely it was this guy's idea, giving out his name maybe was a bit of macho that turned bad for him(if he wasn't coerced by his superiors to "take one for the team", i can't say i would doubt a boss would do that) but this guy was not high up enough to have made this policy, and i reiterate that from my personal work experience, a decision this blindly asinine stinks of an executive. They maybe need a few extra pizzas, but I have sympathy for the poor working schlub who stuck his neck out. (though my insane conspiracy theorist mind wonders, what if he was actually against the changeand wanted to illustrate how bad an idea this was, he may have forgotten his mother was vulnerable, but was willing to take the hit to show his bosses how badly and quickly things could go horribly wrong. maybe he is a hero )

even if i were not a cheapskate, id not bet against that. and it is sad that i wouldnt really.

if they have money, hell yeah. people are people, wow players are no different, and the bad ones we can pull the ignore trigger on, but if i were to guess, i'd think the people who would quit over this would not be trolls, they will work around it, but rational people who are concerned with their security, not a bad group to snag.

Quote:nah nerdrage is when there is a power adjustment, this can affect real world employment and safety, this is like blizzard released the pinto here. i think this may actually cause a population loss that is significant. it wont kill them, might not even drop them past 8 million, but i think this may be one of those massively ill considered moves that depletes a significant amount of good will that they have in the west. This is their Michael richardson moment here really. Two links so far on the Fark.com Geek page.
This comment cracked me up:
It will be interesting how a gaming addiction interacts with nerdrage.
now if coh marketing could time an ad blitz around the time that this gets implemented...stressing user privacy... -

Quote:you have NO idea...are you sure you're not actually a supervillain in disguise?
Just saying.. I have often joked that if chase did not hold to an intensely strict moral code, he could be a very dangerous person. He has much nastier ideas than this that his moral code would not allow him to do, but they would have significantly destabilizing effects for a disconcertingly large number of people.

Quote:cars also continually take steps to improve their safety, this decision would remove safety, those that do not inprove their safety to a continually raising bar face civil liability. also, consider that you made your case based solely on your experience of not suffering reprisals for your actions. Since you only offered one data point, kali's rebuttal was perfectly valid because she had a single example(more than a single, but only a single was needed) where cyber-stalking did occur, and i have no doubt she could call up reams of statistics to show it being a significant risk if cyber stalkers would have access to people's real names, since it was demonstrated in this thread that you could get significant personal info just using a person's real name. That's because people are a sea of statistics. Social policy is not established by the fact that something bad happened to someone somewhere. Bad things happen to good people, and that's unfortunate, but we don't stop the world on account of it. It would be hard to find some aspect of our existence that did not have unfortunate consequences for someone somewhere attached to it. Cars kill 45,000 people a year and injure 2.5 million more (roughly), not to mention the long-term environmental issues, but just try even raising the standards for a driver's license, never mind getting rid of them.
Lets go at this from a different angle, can you convinceingly make the case that using people's real names will, in any way shape of form cut down on trolling, the stated aim of this policy? because there doesn't seem to be a rational way to make the case. so enlighten us as to how this is going to have a measureable effect. -

i'm really amazed it still is going on, i predicted a full rescind by the weekend, i'm hoping blizz doesnt leave me hanging.

im on staycation this week, so you have my vuvuzela.Violet tendencies is in position for some zombie massacreing.

Quote:in my experience, this smells of upper level executives, it takes the right level of lack of real world skills, lack of knowledge of technology and lack of responsibility for their actions to exclude it from people who work with or vaguely understand the game, only an executive could be this deluded.I'm just stunned how enough people at Activision/Blizzard could think that was a good enough idea to even get this far.
I mean, a couple of people with a crackpot idea I can see, sure. Happens all the time. But this had to go up the chain, level after level to get approval and resources devoted to creating it.
To me, this goes beyond an organization-wide failure of common sense right into pure denial of reality. -
Quote:see, this is another are where, to me, the justification falls apart. lets say my real name is dan winchester. it isnt, but play along. i have a few real world friends here, but most of you i will never see, ever, i dont go to cons, and live pretty far from most players who have identified locations, and lack the directional skills and free time to go to get togethers, so the social circle that i actually am concerned with is those few rl friends who play here. Now i would feel social pressure not to be a jerk in front of those friends, but since they already know me, they know that i am rian frostdrake as well, no anonymity there, so the name thing would be useless for the people who'se opinions i most care about. ill throw marcian in as well, since he is cool, but still my real name means no more than my forum name since i wont meet him in person. In the case of the boy, I have to wonder... would he have acted the way he did had he NOT had anonymity in the first place?
since i am not expanding my social cirlce to encompass any of you(no offense, im really pretty boring anyhow), there is no real social pressure to behave, dan winchester is no more of an identifying mark than rian frostdrake. The only reason i would fear social repercussions based on my real name that wouldn't exist on my forum name under current paragon rules would be A. since i cant change it, so if im a jerk, i cant rename, which would be reasonable for a wow policy, no renames work for me. or B. if i feared real world reprisals for my actions..which works i guess, but is a really bad basis for pro-social behavior on a video game forum.
so in any theory i can think of, the only was that your real name would make a difference on your behavior towards people outside of your social circle is by using the threat of violence or occupational problems...thats full on madness. so the other reasons people have mentioned with them linking with various social networking sites makes far more sense, because there is no way in heck that the stated goal is going to have any affect at all.
