Or...allow VIP players to grant a temporary "pass" for the content. It lasts for the single run only, you can only grant one per hour, allows the player to participate.
Perhaps rewards could be restricted. At least they would get to taste the content and get access for that run only.
Returning players should not be relegated to the game they left two or three years ago. -
We should get IO use unlocked with 400, but actual slotting and crafting remain as it is. That way you can use those ones you already have slotted by just paying the points.
-
All fair points certainly. This is just really bad timing, no matter the reason. This is the time when returning players will form judgments on the state of the game. Not the best time to be going down 4 or 5 times a week.
IMO, if it remains in this troubled state, they should pull it back into the beta server, continue testing (while its still live of course), make the corrections there aggressively, and then drop a large fix build on the live servers.
Better than trying to fix it as they go IMO. -
Quote:No, your right. Better as a Blaster set. And I like the AoE chance, especially if it is tied in with changing missile/grenade type, which is critical to the line IMO.May I ask why this would need to be a new archetype, instead of just a powerset? I would think that a missile/grenade set would be a blaster primary, while you could make a bunch of debuff grenades/missiles into a Defender/Corruptor/Controller/Mastermind buff/debuff set. I don't think that it would need to be a new AT.
That being said, I would kind of like this, and was toying around in my head with writing up a Missile Blast set the other week. My thought was that each attack would be a single-target attack, and the secondary effect of the whole set would be various chances of the attack becoming AoE. As such, while the powers themselves would be single target and follow normal set progression (maybe with a single cone AoE and a standardish nuke power), each attack would have a chance to cause splash damage.
I also though about the idea of a very long range, very long powerup (interruptable) cruise missile type attack.
Finally, the graphic effects would have various lock-on types of animations, rolling lock cursors and the like, with a bonus to accuracy.
A Nuke-like power with knockback AND DoT would be fantastic. I would recommend it be very powerful, but damage EVERYONE, friend and foe alike...like a last ditch weapon of sorts. -
I think it would have been better to fix any issues before Freedom's launch.
-
I would like to suggest a special archetype that would fire missiles/grenades. All types...Incendiary, HE, Antipersonnel, Goop (slowdown), Flashbang (disorient), etc. The idea is to mix a direct damage ranged with an AoE ranged/support.
Would be a great one to use the cyborg costume parts for.
I would also like to see some of the other weapons made available in the market, the Gatling gun and the like.
Thanks for your time. -
We just pulled in a whole slew of players, including returning players I expect. I realize that the increased maintenance perhaps can't be helped, but that doesn't change the fact that it doesn't bode well for the games rep at this critical time.
I would recommend that a solution be found as soon as possible to end this excessive downtime. Otherwise it may hurt any momentum Freedom may have created. -
Ah. Didn't think about the second build option. That is certainly one way to take care of the problem.
You keep your original build (is that correct?) plus redo a new build that follows the restrictions...that way you have the original if you resub. -
Quote:That's a great idea.I would like to be able to access the Paragon Market when not in-game.
Unless we can already do that I am just overlooking something.
And I can't stress enough how we need PICTURES of the items offered. I don't need to necessarilly see them on a model, but at least a pic of the item or items (in the case of costume sets) would be nice. -
Sorry, one more post.
A few more suggestions.
1) You should have the ability to stay logged in by default for a certain period of time.
2) Clicking on my name other than in actual threads should give me the ability to see all of my posts. I shouldn't have to do a search or subscribe.
3) Players should be encouraged to post pictures of each market item, like the costume sets. Right now it seems it is a grey area, and I think official support should come out in favor of this kind of thing. This could promote market purchases...I would have already purchased a few costume sets if I knew what they looked like. -

Id like to add that I would not be against an archetype forum area change, as long as the individual powers continue to be represented.
If you wish to further separate them by categorizing them as say Ranged, Melee, Support, Pet control I think that would work. Be easier to find the ones you are interested in that way, since the names of the powers are not always obvious in definition.
Essentially, though, I think focus has to be made on a "Feedback and Suggestions" area that has a full section of the forum. -

Servers - leave as is
A lot of the reasons for such changes have been discussed elsewhere. One thing I'd like to add because I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere is that I don't feel there's need for a distinction between rednames, i.e., community vs. dev digests. The weight I give any of these redname posts doesn't differs, and the total volume of both digests together will create doesn't look like a problem, so I think it makes sense to merge them.
Good, but I would suggest calling feedback "Feedback and Suggestions". -

Well, I would like to ring in on my new user experience with respect to the forums, since I started using it last month.
First, I agree that the organization is a bit confusing. It was a bit tough (but not impossible) to find the right spot to post player suggestions. I would suggest that that particular area be brought up to the top of the forums with its own area, so folks can clearly see where you would post ideas and feedback.
I also think that Premiums should get limited access to the forum. Perhaps something like suggestions, tech support, etc. The rest can be restricted to VIP. It's important to hear from those players that are returning from prior play IMO. -
Yea, I should clarify my comment about travel, because perhaps I was being a bit unfair.
I have played many games, and like quite a few out there travel here, especially really early in the game can take some time. But unlike some other games that have long or scenic travel times, this one allows you to get attacked (unless you take the train/ferry/chopper).
It was just my way of saying "travel takes time, be prepared for that".
But I didn't mean to put it forth in an insulting way. To be completely honest there is very little if any I have to complain about in this game, and that's really saying something (I'm a chronic complainer in MMOs). -
Quote:This is a great one...but a side note to it: Naturally, -1 is going to spread out your leveling speed quite a bit, since you will fight many blues, and +1 will cause you to face a red more often than you might think. One thing I think is important to point out to new players:
You can set the difficulty level. If you want to fight large groups that are 3 levels higher than you, no problem. Want to fight lower level enemies, that's not a problem either. Exceptions are the street level missions and playing on someone else's team. Most of the game however is instanced door missions. Since this selection is per character, if you feel the character is too powerful or not powerful enough, it's easy to fix that. -
Looks like the good old welcoming committee is out in force today....
-
Yea, the extra boosts might be a concern if they were too substantial or lasted too long. I was thinking the kind of boosts you get from the hydra run. They are not huge, they don't last forever, but it's a nice little bump.
Would be cool of those could be purchased in the store (for probably a shorter duration of course).
I guess I would add that I would like to see the (noob alert) ranged/melee red glowball staff the Arachnos guys run around with sometimes for sale. -
I am a noob myself, but have learned a few things.
1) Mail to yourself. That includes pez (inspirations) and influence. Your other characters can use the boost.
2) Do the Hydra run early. It's a great leveling tool, drops fantastic enhancements (you may have to run it a few times) and some good titles. Also a great way to get introduced to how things work in this game and what the players are like.
3) AE early on is good for dual enhancements, can't use them until your 12 or 13 methinks but you can still build up some tickets when you are ready. Look for maps in your level range, especially ones recognized by the devs.
4) With the exception of some of the new freedom quest lines most early quests are generated. That means you could use AE to level and not miss a thing.
5) You can get an additional costume slot and unlock capes for each individual character at level 20. Look up the quests and do them. It's worth it. Also, changing your costume is pretty cheap. Keep at it until you get the look you want. Don't be worried about making mistakes. Invest in your toon's look.
6) You can only respec within your chosen power sets...you can not choose another primary power set. If you don't like your build...toss it. Roll a new toon. But, you can choose new supplemental power sets if you chose one you didnt like (like fighting, flying, etc).
7) You are not limited to one supplemental power set. You can choose a new one if you want to go with the prior choices. Flying AND Speed for instance.
8) You can't afford to buy things off the auction house. You also do not have enough vault space.
9) This is not your ordinary MMO. A few rules:
-Unlearn almost everything you know.
-Players are not mean in this game. Really. Don't expect them to be.
-Opinions in the game are embraced. Opinions in the forums are reviled.
-Try a stealth/melee combination. You might be surprised how fun it can be in this game.
-Go Hero first.
-You can sell your recipes and salvage early in the game. Really. You won't regret it. Don't be a pack rat. Space is scarce.
-Inventory counts total items, not stacks.
-Travel is a time sink.
-You will be attacked as you travel. Sometimes you will die. XP debt is not the end of the world.
-Strategy is your friend. Especially if you like to solo.
-Raiding is easy breezy in this game. It is NOT like other games. Don't be afraid to join a Raid. Your gear and/or build means next to nothing to most players, at least early on. Get this...people here play FOR FUN.
-Purple+Solo=Death.
10) Save your costumes. There is no limit, you never know when you might need to pull back up the design. Save and load buttons are in the designer UI. And the great thing...you can save costumes that have locked items. For a future "unlock and then just load the saved costume to save time" thing.
11) You can change 3 same pez into a different single different pez. If you can't buy the pez you need, buy three of what they offer and change it to one of what you want.
12) Throw a few rez pez into your mail to yourself. You will need them.
13) Con colors are bit different here.
http://cityofheroes.wikia.com/wiki/Con_System
That explains it all. Get used to the colors, and note whether or not your target is a minion, lieutenant, boss, etc. It MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
14) You can increase your action bar to three bars, and also add floating bars that you can place anywhere you want. Not only that, the floating bars have different configurations you can use if you wish.
15) Have an older graphics card? No problem. Fog is your friend. Reduce world detail to 65 percent, now you can have nice shadows and good character detail and not lose frames.
One final piece of advice...and you will know what I mean when it happens. It's a good idea to kill EVERYONE in the bank, not just the robber...and don't let anyone escape out of the door. Trust me, it's good advice.
That's it for now. -
I don't know if screwed is the right word. Overcomplicated and a bit odd in places, sure. One would expect to have access to content unlocked by a purchase of an expansion, spoken by devs or not.
Especially since it is now free to VIP players.
I'm on the fence about it. I think MOST of what they are offering for sale is brilliant, but a few things seem to be structured badly in the list, and a few others are downright odd.
Perhaps a bit more time could have been taken to plan out who got what...and it could have used a bit of streamlining methinks. -
Powerlist and how long to level is a great idea. I would also like to see the actual server title listed at the top of the screen.
-
I would like to suggest a few things for the market.
1) Please display pics or links to all of the individual pieces in each costume set.
2) Please offer flying packs that are a shorter duration but lower cost. I would like to see the different packs offered, with perhaps longer durations (as well as a permanent addition to back slot, pops out when you fly).
3) Please add weapon scabbards on the back for swords (or just for decoration), as well as holsters (right, left or both).
4) Would like to see an ability to mix and match shoulder pads...in other words change over to a left/right/both kind of option. Perhaps make it a purchasable unlock. Also a left/right/both option for gloves would be great.
5) Would like to see defensive, offensive and accuracy boosters on sale as well. Naturally they should have a VERY short duration and only have a small boost, but be reasonable in price.
Thanks for your time. -
Quote:That would make sense. Sort of a hedge against bad times, make sure to keep the game at a profit by expanding it's playerbase with dollars ready to spend on the market.Well, my thought on Freedom has generally been that it's a preemptive attempt to maintain profitability in the face of steadily declining subs. Why wait until you're in dire straights to try and fix something when you can see it's going to be coming up in a year or three (or two ... or whatever). If it's worked for other games as a last-ditch effort why can't it work for us when it's not quite one.
About the 300k thing. I could actually see that as an expectation for CoV. CoH was a success and managed to gather about 150k folks and since the idea of CoV was that it was going to be a whole separate game in parallel with CoH so pulling it its own separate set of subscribers would make sense. It would also explain the pre-CoV launch ideas that every issue would basically be a double issue with both CoH and CoV content. Also why instead of doing that Cryptic dropped the team down to 14 people. Development was trucking along until then, and you really don't release quite major expansions on the level of CoV for failures.
That is entirely speculation, but even if it's completely true CoV's potential failure wouldn't have negated CoH's success. Plus NCSoft's continued support of the game tends to imply that they see the game as a success and would like to keep it that way. I mean, we've all seen what they do with games they don't think are successful.
Many games have already demonstrated, from what I have seen and heard, that a FTP system with microtrans can be very profitable.
I can also see the point with the second and even third expansions. Perhaps that is where the disappointment comes from. Maybe they expected to gain, not lose subs after two expansions. -
