But the epic ATs don't have a predefined background, only a defined present. It's one thing to be called a Soldier of Arachnos of Kheldian, but quite another to say how you got to that point.

Pretty much this. Longbow only looks bad because the playerbase insists on painting them as such - they're no worse than the players, and in effect exercise more restraint in a lot of cases. Plus there's just a lot of plain ignorance - no police since Longbow came around? What about the PPD? Or, in fact, the small matter of regular police being assigned to regular crime rather than fighting against super villains?

But, eh. The person most vehement in her dislike of the characters is also an AR/Fire 'Hero', so I have a feeling the irony was lost from post one.

The Rogue Isles is international waters, which is precisely why so much crime happens there - even the United States has its dirty little backroom deals take place there.

But, eh. Whenever Longbow come up Hero players will always run into the thread screeching about how awful the organisation is, never mind the powers they're using on muggers. Or the numbers cut down, for that matter. Just bugs the hell out of me to see such inconsistent indignation.

Vanguard, the Menders, even the Midnighter Club are squarely "grey."
Yeah. This is my issue with a fair few games and movies as of late - moral complexity is only complex if you do it for a genuinely interesting storyline, not simply for the sake of mixing things up. Avatar bugged the frak out of me due to this: oh look our story is really grey and makes you think because humans are evil!!!!!!!!

Oye. It's depressing when the basic black/white storyline becomes something new and exciting.

  7. Nah, people hate Longbow because they do the exact same thing as player characters just with a uniform. That's the point the ethical line gets crossed, apparently.

    Exactly.

Style can make a lot more impact with me than straight out detail. To me the likes of Metro 2033 (oppressive, rusty, very muted colour scheme), Darksiders (bold and chunky characters with vibrant colour schemes) and so on will sticks with me for a lot longer than, say, Crysis or Gears of War - the latter two are undeniably more advanced and powerful with their graphics but don't endear me as much as their less technically tricky counterparts do.

    What Sam said.

The CO engine has been criticised in a lot of places simply because it gobbles up far too much power for what it does, and has inconsistent performance compared to a lot of games out there; similar deal with Star Trek Online. Framerates are jumpy and can be all over the place, and in same cases has seen to GPUs breaking down if not outright melting.

Speaking from personal experience I get very distinct pauses whenever I play(ed) either game every few seconds, regardless of the options I changed or the drivers I used, nor was I the only one suffering this problem. Given my rig can knock boots with the likes of the Unreal 3 engine it's a very frustrating issue.

Well that and the ******* ugly style. Improved models are all very well and good, but the style of CO is just...eh. Everything seems so gormless and childish even if there are higher polygon counts.

CO has a newer engine, yet somehow it runs so much worse for so little gain. Same deal with STO - the graphics don't warrant the grunt needed.

If you're not following the gaming media chances are you're not going to give two ***** about MMOs like CoX.

Really? Christ, I'm in the wrong line of work. Hell, I would be in the long line of work even if I'd gotten into the military - I'd have only been looking at around twenty-six grand after about eight years.

Venom retracted if the gaming industry really is that profitable.

Except in this case we're simply going from:

"My character wouldn't take orders from them!"

    to

"My character wouldn't have that as their plan!"

The argument isn't as strong as you apparently think. Shifting the issue doesn't resolve it.

It isn't naive. It's just asking that this shrieking is kept to the bloody threads where it's relevant, rather than being jolted into every other ******* thread on the EU sub-forum. Well, alright. That's naive given how whiny your lot are. Eh.
  18. It's actually a thread asking for players who made the jump, not yet another springboard to make hyperbolic claims of how terrible the EU is being treated, and how much easier the game could be fixed in some hypothetical dreamworld.

    But, eh.
  19. Can we take the grousing back to the SHAFTED!!111! thread please.

Well either way the point's the same - they use existing assets, and are not quad-creatures as claimed. Their animations are knuckle dragging variations, which it isn't the 'all fours' style people actually want.

They're still bipedal and using a variation of the Huge animations. It isn't an entirely new skeleton, it's just a model using some very sneaky techniques to disguise its base. A true quad-based animal would be far, far different and require a lot more effort to be convincing.
  22. EU server performance is due to the EU net infrastructure. Short of completely rewiring everything themselves, there's not a lot that can be done about that.
  23. Formerly EU, made the jump to the US (and Virtue) a while ago. It's been a positive experience overall, really - get away from the usual Doom Prophets shrieking in the global channels, and I can fit into the roleplay community without really feeling really ******* awkward around a few of its members.

I'm annoyed with myself for not making the jump sooner, honestly.

Yeah. I think the people barking those comments need to go and take a look at the powerset themselves. They still move like bipedal creatures.
