I'm not there to verify. I have to go with information you provide us.

Ah, I should play my level 53 fire/dark more to make them fix this then.

Quote:Nope, that is what HP sells it with, 10GB of RAM.That doesn't seem right to me.
Can anyone more technically inclined explain this?
10240MB seems like an odd number for RAM. I didn't think RAM would be setup in a multiple of 5 sticks of 2GB(and 10 sticks of 1GB is even more strange).
Normally you have 4-6 slots for RAM on a motherboard, filling them with identical sticks of all 1GB or 2GB to end up with multiples of 2 like 4GB, 6GB, 8GB and 12GB.
That just looks odd to me.
microc: Its a new PC, but I have seen a few people have "issues" with the Bulldozer CPU. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Driver Date: 10/24/2011 2:19:10 PM
Looks like the same old drivers. Can you uninstall the drivers and run the latest version?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...w_vista64.aspx -
Quote:Oh, well hopefully it will run great.
I've got a GTX 465 that runs well enough that I'm stuck with right now, but I always love being able to turn settings up more without heating up more.
I find heat and power (and size of the video card) to be a bigger issue. Most of the decent cards play CoH just fine, its just some pump out so much heat, I don't have to use the heater in the house during winter. -
Quote:What I found most interesting was its "adaptive Vsync" which definitely seems like a great function.
I was also intrigued by its ability to change its clock speed without a manual adjustment and the usual risks of that(though it may still be risky).
From the way things look, the next time I need a new graphics card, this will be my first choice(when the price comes down) unless something better is out by then.
The 680 won't ever be cheap, but there will likely be a lower end card with the same 28nm guts. -
Quote:You're right, too many changes...No, you are thinking of the GTS 250 which uses essentially the same GPU as the 9800GT, 9800GTX, 9800GTX+ and the 512MB 8800GT.
The GTS 450 uses a significantly cut down GPU from the GTX 460.
Lucretia_MacEvil:
Can we have a confirmation as to what video drivers you are running?
Here is Hardware monitor. Can we see some temps?
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html -
Well the better side effect are all of the rebates on older hardware. 67xx cards are under $100 (although its a fairly old design from the 57xx) and 6850 is just over $120 now.
The Nvidia cards are being stubborn about price drops, the 560 Ti was ironically cheapest right when it came out when it was just over $200 with rebates. It went up and down from $219-249.
So when the GTX 660 or whatever the mid market card is, I'll retire the GTX 260 Foreman Grill heater and stuff a 5750 into that old box. The current 5750 "game machine" can get the GTX 660. -
The two times I PUGGED during 2xp weekend were horrible disasters.
Both teams had the same problem. People running at with the diff slider too high vs tough stuff and people who had no clue how to use their character or powers. I even saw one of the worst Emp defenders in a long time. This guy (or gal) had Aid other and Aid self!I think that comes close to beating the Worst Emp defender I saw who had Healing aura and rez at level 50. No other emp powers, but had all of the dark blasts and ran into spawns like a tank and died everytime.
Edit: After those disasters, teams were purely from my friends list and no PUGs. -
Now if they can only keep the card in supply.
The card does very nicely and blows away the 7970 for $500 ($50 cheaper than 7970)
Read all about it.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...mark,3161.html
Once the supply catches up and other 6xx cards, expect some of the old gen cards from AMD and Nvidia to be heavily discounted and I would expect some large price drops from AMD's 79xx series cards. -
Quote:I don't. Even with the i22 changes many still see the stalker as damaged goods. At least they do something well and its no longer a clear cut scrapper wins. With the recent stalker changes I started looking at the niche roles the 4 melee archetypes are supposed to fill.
It seems to me that after stalkers got their (admittedly much needed) buff, scrappers are losing their niche.
I read a report of a Street Justice/Ninjitsu stalker soloing a Rikti Pylon in 3:52 with no temps, no inspirations, and no Incarnate powers. I've never heard of a scrapper doing it that fast.
So, now we have brutes surpassing scrappers in both survivability and high end damage output, especially with the sets that have damage auras and lots of AoE.
And with the stalker changes, we have stalkers surpassing scrappers in single target damage, while the survivability gap has been significantly closed. Not only that, but stalkers have the same inherent ability as scrappers and do it better (base crit chance of 10% as opposed to 5, increase to crit chance on teams, and the ability to autocrit when hidden)
Now, I'm not calling for a nerf to stalkers. Far from it, because I'm having a blast with my Electric/Energy stalker. I'm just concerned that the original "solo specialist" is being outshined by both of the two other ATs that do much the same thing. I'm not so sure that the higher base damage is enough to keep the playing field level, since brutes and now stalkers are both capable of outdamaging them with their lower base damage.
Maybe it's just a perception thing, but I feel that scrappers are getting a bit of a shaft here.
Anyone else feel similarly? -
Aye, that is one of the reasons why I didn't suggest a GTS 450 which is basically, an old 8800 rebadged to 9800 then to GTS 450.
Actually, 12.1 and 12.2 AMD drivers have been ok. -
Quote:Good testing ReppuSimple The average DPA of each attack varies between 'equal to ranged pets', 'below ranged pets', or 'slightly above ranged pets'. Add in the the critical hit chance, and it's a bit higher in each respect. Beyond that, if you're lucky, your beasts will have 15 seconds, out of 60 seconds, of steroided damage (+100% or so odd damage, but with their base damage this is a deceptive number. Don't be fooled.)
They are capable of 'impressive for a mastermind pet' burst damage. Now, this may seem good on paper, but again; pets have horrible base damage, 100% or so bonus damage is NOT that much on them, but it is good! However, you have to fact in the following.
1) Almost no AoE
2) Literally no ranged.
3) Did I mention they have BARELY ANY ATTACKS?
You may be asking about that third one. Let me explain.
Wolves and Lions: A single attack with out an upgrade. Gain a single second attack with the first upgrade. Gain a single third attack at the second upgrade.
These attacks? 3/6/9 cooldowns. This means, after the first attack rotation, your pets will now be having 'dead period' of 2-3 seconds for the rest of combat. Do you know how many other Mastermind pets have this issue?
The Protector Bots by design, and the Ember Demon, because the Hellfire Demon MORE than makes up for this.
Which Beast Mastery pets make up for this? NONE. They ALL have this flaw. But it gets worse.
The Alpha Wolf, the unique third Wolf pet for the first summon? TWO. ATTACKS. 3/6 cooldown.
The Dire Wolf? 3/6/14/14/60.
So, in retrospective?
You have barely any AoE.
You have literally no ranged.
If your pet AI is smart, your pets will have 100% odd something bonus damage for 15 seconds roughly every minute... but half of that time is wasted because they have so few attacks and the cooldowns are horrible.
Outside of those 15 seconds, you're doing even LESS damage, your pets are idling with their tails up their ***** because of their poor attack numbers, and your Boss Pet is the second most guilty of standing there with his tail up his *** (the Alpha Wolf being the biggest sinner).
So, yeah. They didn't learn anything. 3 attacks maximum on four of your pets. Two attacks on one of them and it's not even worth the trade of (It gets a lame heal in exchange, which the Lionesses do better), and the Dire Wolf? A damn joke.I'll just wait until a final fixed version is live. Until then I'll just hold onto my 800pp. If they don't fix it, that's 800 points saved. I suspect they will because if it doesn't sell, that's development money wasted.

Your welcome T_I to suggest the 430/440 which isn't as good as either of the AMD cards but it does fit within the power profile of the PSU. The 550 Ti is probably too much of a power draw on an HP PSU. You'll note it does require a PCI-E power.
It would be more helpful if you have actual links to cards rather than just be an Nvidia fanboy. Its flat out not helpful and the user could mistakenly go out and buy the awful 520 card.
I have no problems linking either card, but my preference is for value for the $
Here is a link for an Nvidia 430. Its a pretty low end video card so it won't run Ultra Mode except maybe the very lowest of low settings. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162067
Whatever you do, DON'T buy a 520 its a worse card despite having a higher price and # -
First question, does CoH run in safe mode. "Safe Mode" as in game safe mode not windows safe mode.

Let me think the weekend went by so fast.
Controller 35-50
Brute 1-33
Tank 40-42 -
repel + Fulcrum shift
don't like to buff yourself?

Quote:One thing to remember is that Antec actually doesn't make any PSUs. They are a reseller of PSUs and buy from an OEMs. So Antec models can have different manufacterers even on the same product line!Let me say do NOT cheap out on the PSU... a no name or off brand one just isn't worth the risk and many of the cheapos are very poor quality. I've always had good luck with Antec personally but there's others that are also good. I've also seen cheap PSU's fry themselves and the motherboard they're connected to if current draw gets even remotely close to it's "rated" capacity. It's just not worth it, spend the $10-20 extra and get a good one.
Now power... assuming you're running a single video card you should be fine with a quality 600W PSU. If you're going with some power hungry monster card you may push that up to 700W. Right now I'm running an older 275GTX with 5 hard drives on an Antec 600W with no issues in 3 years. I could probably get by with a 400W but the 600 gives me plenty of headroom.
My thumb rule on power is to figure ~300W for the CPU/Mobo/RAM/HD/CDROM etc. and then tack on the power for the vid card, then an extra 100W for headroom.
These guys are nuts about PSUs. They will open them up and strip them down to see who made all of the parts inside.

Well the biggest problem is that its a pre-built system. (Techie talk is, OMG someone didn't build it themselves)
So, those builders want you to buy a new one rather than to keep upgrading the current one. (Thus why all in ones are starting to get more popular)
I don't think best buy would be too happy with me if I remove the cover off a display model to pull out a tape measure.
Anyways, the HP website says it has a 300W PSU. So were looking at 7750 or 6570 as your best AMD options. Any higher power video card would probably require a beefier PSU. That isn't an easy task on some of these because the cases are small.
7750 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102969
6570 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102934
I'd suggest a 6770 or 550 Ti but those require a 400W PSU and you have a 300W unit.
Make sure to upgrade video drivers to 12.1 or 12.2 -
7450 must be pretty new I haven't even seen reviews of the card yet.
Looking over the specs, it looks like a rebadge of the 6450.
Start by updating to the latest AMD driver 12.2 (I am currently testing it and so far, its been stable)
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...w_vista64.aspx
I would also suggest dialing down your graphics settings down to the lowest setting, then slowly adding things. -
As long as its not worth running SSAs and tips for rog/vig, I won't run them. When its fixed (if ever) I'll reconsider.
Edit: First the devs have to decide this is WAI. If not, they should consider an adjustment. -
Quote:I just consider Judgement to be my "blaster nuke" now. Its up and ready to fire more often, its ranged, hits more targets and has no crash. It does less damage so what? At least it doesn't have 10 seconds of no end + time to retoggle a bunch of stuff. No, we shouldn't. The crash should be removed altogether, all nukes should be made ranged, the target cap should be increased, and the damage on most of them should be increased, not decreased. Because at the moment, the traditional blaster nukes are badly overshadowed by the crashless nukes in some of the sets (Rain of Arrows, Full Auto, Hail of Bullets, Overcharge) and even more so by the new judgment nukes.
Just removing the crash and leaving them alone beyond that would be a good start though. -
Quote:It won't run UM at a level I consider acceptable. It will however run normal mode just fine. Thanks, guys! I had already planned on upgrading the power supply. Two more quick questions: Will the Nvidia GT 440 run ultra mode, and if so, which particular model am I looking for? I noticed several different versions of that card.
Try this one, its a 430
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130579 -
Some kind words of warning.
Keep in mind that pre-built systems from popular name brand 3rd party resellers are not built with the gamer and DIYer in mind.
You might find the HP case very snug to fit a replacement PSU (since most will be larger) and very little room for any of the high power large video cards (due to smallish case). Nor do they have the cooling available to handle some of the hotter beasts.
Honestly, you want to sink as little as possible into that thing. -
I suppose if people want "challenge" then its time to pull out mobs who swing the "mighty" cheat codes.
Mobs who have mag 100 mez attacks (Remember the old Longbow Nullifier?)
Mobs who have auto hit unresistable damage
Mobs who are immune to mez
Mobs who can drain 100% of your endurance with auto hit attack.
None of which sounds really "fun" IMHO but that is where I think "challenge" is going to go. -
Well for starters, please go to hyperstrike's post about asking for help.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628
Currently, there is no unofficial good nvidia driver list. Please make sure to inform us what driver you are using and which 560 version you have.
The more info you give the more likely things can be worked out. There are plenty of players who have nvidia cards who have no issues with the game.
