Yup, all that info checks out, GPU. I crashed with them.

The odd thing about the preview release drivers GPU posted is it includes a new AMD VISION Engine Control Center, but does not include a driver with a newer version number. When selecting custom instead of express, it showed that it would not update the driver, but would update a few other things that didn't seem like they would relate to City of Heroes crashing. I decided to treat the issue as if the driver was actually new, but the version number was not different, so I did a full uninstall of my current drivers, shut down, booted, and then installed the drivers GPU posted, forcing it to use its copy of the drivers provided, despite the fact the version numbers are the same, and would have silently not installed its drivers otherwise.
I have started City of Heroes at 09:20 AM PDT today, and will not close it until it crashes.
Will report back in a few hours.
Edit: Crashed at 10:20 AM PDT today. One hour of play. -
Quote:I did mention in an earlier post that I was crashing with the exact drivers you posted. However, I am now testing what appears to be a more updated preview release, which you can grab here: http://www2.ati.com/Drivers/hotfix/A...Win7_Vista.exe.I have been crashing with all drivers from 11.3 to 11.7. The only drivers that currently work for me are 11.2 but has its own issues of using 100% gpu
Beta 11.8 can be grabbed here, havent tested them myself yet but will do when I get home tonight, any one testing them could you please leave feedback here so I will know whether to bother.

I couldn't find an actual AMD page to link to with a link to that download, so I just posted a direct link, however it is from ati.com as you can see. Anyway, I am testing with these, and will update as soon as I either crash or play for ten hours straight without crashing (I may go longer, just to reinforce that it does not crash if it still hasn't crashed up to that point).
Edit: Crashed after 1 hour, 45 minutes of play. -
Crashed with 11.8 preview drivers from: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...erPreview.aspx. Although, the game did run a solid two hours before crashing rather than about thirty minutes.

I've noticed that raising my shadow quality settings from the default settings for Ultra (High) to Highest (knowing it obviously wouldn't help the crashing issue) caused the game to crash wildly more, and much more dramatically (i.e. it not only caused the game to crash, but sometimes everything froze, and I had to hard shutdown my computer). I'm trying it with shadows on lowest (i.e. pre-ultra), even though that is a dramatic thing to lose, to see if it stops the crashing entirely.
Edit: If you would like to help confirm this, make sure you do a full exit to desktop and reload after changing it to lowest.
Edit: Nevermind, just crashed. -
I'm just wondering what is the largest sum of prize money ever awarded in a single costume contest on the Freedom server, or any server for that matter?
Whatever it happens to be, I plan to beat it... Eventually. -
Which names have you freed already? I would definitely like a few; Start, Unstoppable, and/or Speed Girl.
My global is @Molten Dwarf X-II if you would like to speak in-game. -
Base Repricing
1) How will the repricing of bases affect you personally?
Well, I'll start out by making our base as big as the limit of the game.
2) Will you dismantle your base to gain the additional prestige from the repricing?
For the most part, yes. I'll probably dismantle rooms that cost more in issue 13 just to be "fair."
3) How long would this process take you if you were to engage in this practice?
Maybe... 8 hours for about 2 - 3 days. Since we have many unique, and standard styling schemes for each room to make the base look as interesting, euphoric, and seamless as possible.
4) What are the positive and negative concerns regarding repricing?
Nothing really negative, as my Super Group has been around for a couple years now, and we have always been anticipating the "massive base of gods."
5) How will this feature affect you long term and short term?
Short term, well, the base will be maxxed out, we can upgrade straight to the maximum size secure plot, use the most expensive rooms, and reconfigure the layout entirely.
Long term, I don't see much I'll be doing with the base unless new items come about. Such as Items of Power *hint hint*
Base Salvage Exchange to Invention Salvage:
1) What is the negative effect on your base for this feature implementation?
Well, it'll horribly kill our current storage. But, we'll manage, we're one of the top Super Groups in our server.
2) What is the positive effect on your base for this feature implementation?
Well, no more confusing explanations to beginners of what the difference between all the different types of salvage they're getting is.
3) How long will it take you to adjust to learning this new system?
Probably no time.
4) What side effects to this system do you currently see from transitioning the old to new system?
Maybe a huge time sink to convert all the base salvage to invention, and setting up the base to deal with a mass transition to smaller salvage bins.
5) What security concerns do you have regarding this change?
Same, wondering when more control over certain parts of the base will be allowed.
Additional Notes:
Well, as it stands now, we have "can take from base storage" and "can add to base storage" permissions. I'd like to see maybe an individual one for all types of storage -- take, and remove for: enhancements, salvage, inspirations. (If that's coming, someone yell at me)
