I was waiting to be rickrolled.

PWNZ <---- is that a way!

Whatever happened to the good old fashioned duckroll? Do you people even know where (and how, my god, HOW?!) the Rickroll came about? Sure, it's made its way into various other message boards and chatrooms, but it was only yesterday that I got in one little fight and my mom got scared and said you're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-aire.

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the license plate said 'Fresh' and had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, bu I thought now forget it, yo, Homes, to Bel-aire!

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabby yo, Homie, smell you later. I looked at my kingdom-- I was finally there to settle my throne as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire.

Bad MOO! >.> We do not speak of that place here!
  2. Thanks Sayterra >.< that's a good idea. I had forgotten about using charcoal. Back when I was in art classes, we messed with it a little bit; but we didn't do much on any one thing. Maybe that'll help my line-art too >.< One way or another, I want to get *good* at this stuff!

(I'm so sick of being mediocre draw-like-I'm-12 guy; I've been doing this since I'm 16 and I'm 24 now! <x.x>; Obviously I've been going about something a leeeeeeetle wrong)

    >.< Hopefully I'll be able to hit Hobby Lobby this month and get some supplies!
  3. Hmm... >.< this seems like a reasonable idea.

    I think I'm going to do some practice stuff like this on the side throughout November. I'm not going to be around here on the forums most of the month (if I can help myself) - because of NaNoWriMo; but it would be good to keep doing art while I write >.<;;

Thanks Star, appreciate the ideas! >_<m Hopefully branching out will help my other art as well!
  4. Or more to the point - I think I want to learn to paint. >.< By hand.

I think I've discovered one of the reasons I rarely get my artwork 'finished' - the computer is very very distracting for me! I have so many other things I have access to on the comp...

Plus - there are some effects that I've seen done by hand that I have yet to figure out how to replicate via digital art.

I know some basics from my mini-painting; ie: how to mix paints (acrylics anyways)...

But I'll be real honest. I have no clue how to go about getting started trying to paint an honest-to-goodness picture.

So I was wondering >.< Does anyone here have any suggestions on how to get started? I literally know nothing about this.

Do I draw up a sketch on canvas first, then try to paint it in like I would digitally? Or should I just try to 'go with the flow' and paint it all freehand? >.<

I figure this is a good place to ask since I've seen several amazing paintings here >.<; Any help is much appreciated!

One of the biggest issues with screenshots is that they can all stand some basic levels editing. Play with the "Brightness and Contrast" sliders, or if you know how, the "Levels" correction. It'll increase visibility tenfold and people will be able to actually see your characters.

After that, getting centered closeups of your char is up to you. Icon is the best place for it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    >.> Ya know, I do believe I shall have to take this under advisement myself. I should have thought of it before; but honestly; I never thought of mucking with the screenshot after I took it.
  9. I actually disagree with that Turbo. I'm not saying people *won't* voice their unsolicited advice on costumes - but that doesn't mean they *should*.

That really WOULD be like walking up to a person and saying "Hey, I think you dress funny." The only reason anyone can get away with that here is because no one can smack the crap out of you for doing it.

As I said - if someone is asking for advice - then advice should be expected and given. I freely admit, I often think many people have... questionable... taste in costumes. But I'm not going to tell them that unless they're asking me for my opinion. Why should I? Who died and made us the be-all-end-all of fashion?

So I guess thats where my line stands.

If you ask for advice - expect to get it. It *should* be delivered politely; but still, don't ask for advice if you don't want advice.

On the other hand, if someone is just showing off their new look, and you think its crap - don't say anything. It's not going to help anyone; neither the person showing their costume, nor you, nor anyone else. It just creates flamewars and drama.

The internet can be a rude, crude place - that doesn't make it any less of a jerky thing to do. Picking on someone in highschool wasn't right, no matter how many people did it; why would it be any different here?

  15. While I think Suichi's a wee bit too harsh in the way she says it - I gotta agree; in a thread like this, when advice is asked for, one must expect opinions to be given, ya know?

It's one thing to give someone unsolicited advice - I don't care *how* good you are, its annoying and arrogant.

But when advice is requested; then its reasonable to assume it will be given; and I think this thread has quite a bit of good advice in it. Obviously, some opinions are going to vary even among the best of costume creators; so one should take a pinch of salt for advice given regardless - but for a thread like this, its generally good to remember thats not like walking up to someone and saying "Hey, your shoes suck." It's more like someone walks up to you, and says "Hey, what do you think of my new shoes?"
  16. Thanks Blitzwing <^_^>

Not CoH-related...somewhat, although they're both NCSoft so hopefully it's okay...I just wanted to vent my frustration in a different media...

    Anyways...

This will be an ongoing thread...

So, today is going into my 2nd day without Tabula Rasa Beta...and yes, I AM feeling the withdrawal...so, I've taken my frustration out by doing Tabula Rasa art...yes, I've gotten to that point...haha. *facepalms*

So here's to hoping these updates will keep me going until November 2nd when the game officially comes out...

I would like to take a moment thank those who support me and understood my post in that thread. I really really appreciate it.

With that said onto my bulleted list of advice:
<ul type="square"> [*]Try to keep at least 3 colors (usually 2 primary colors and 1 supporting color) in the costume if possible. You can get by with 2 though if need be, but you'll really have to space your colors out to make it effective.[*]The 3 farthest columns on the CC color bar are a great selection for pastels and neutral colors. I highly recommend playing with these if you are having trouble with your primary color choices or just need a supporting color as a fill-in.[*]You'll want your 2 or 3 main colors to be scattered all over your costume. The idea is to have the viewer's eye be drawn to the entire costume equally and not specifically to one part. For instance, if you use Green on the Legs then try to have a different color or shade on the feet to contrast it. Anything to grab the eye's focus.[*]Black is fickle color choice, it tends to eliminate any textures on objects and merges into any surrounding dark colors. I recommend avoiding it as a primary color choice if at all possible. If you do use it make sure that you combine it with bright or neutral colors only.[*]sometimes less is more, don't feel like you need to use every option in the CC. For Example, I most of the time skip on using shoulder pieces and/or capes, since they can tend to look "clunky" sometimes. [*]Don't get into the mindset that your hero or villain has to look a certain way based entirely on which side they are on. Villains don't have to look all dark and vicious like Venom and heroes don't have to be all bright and colorful like Superman.[*] Concept should override any of the above guidelines if absolutely calls for it.

Turbo is made of win and awesome.

This post says pretty much all the advice I have on costume building.

I *especially* want to agree with the part about the furthest right colors.

Also the furthest left colors are excellent if you want a very dark color but black isn't looking right.

Oh, there is one other thing too:

Greys - Judicious use of shades of grey will take you much further than just blacks and whites. Especially since the dark greys *don't* tend to ruin textures where black would. This isn't to say 'never use black' - hardly (I use it very frequently) - its just that awareness that often times a good grey can do the same job, better, than a solid black; is a big help.
