Anyone here from Dark Carnival or Dark Circus or whatever that carny/clown oriented SVG is calling itself? I wanted to look into that...

Hello, my name is Paydirt...
*crowd of Brutes* Hello Paydirt!
...and I am a SMASH!!!aholic.
It's been 22 hours since my last SMASH!!! and...I'm going to have to do it again tonight!!!

I agree with Lord Recluse: servants/staff/technicians/acolytes etc. would be great.
Trying to code offline behaviour for a PLAYER character = taboo no-no for a gaming company if you ask me. My characters are mine to direct, and no one else's! -

This isn't really a new revelation, minMAX, but I share some of your concern. Too much reward for PvP and the company riles the PvE enthusiasts that have been the core fans, too little and the company doesn't expand the subscriber base.
I'm crossing my fingers that the devs will find the right mix.

VERY well said Clintonian! I wish I could have boiled it down that concisely. -

15. PvP: a million questions. When, where, with whom? How do missions and minions enter into it? If you avoid PvP, how much content do you miss out on?
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Less than a million answers -- You'll be able to PvP heroes and villains -- but only those who want to be part of PvP. This is not a "I challenge you to a duel, Black Fang! Okay, Hero Guy, I accept," kind of thing. Consent depends on where you go and the choices you make. You won't get ganked in Galaxy City, no matter what. We're building goals for PvP, so you'll want to play it, so if you are a dedicated PvE player, your friends may have PvP badges, titles, or a temp power you won't earn.

Ok, I know I'll be flamed for this but wasn't this something that Statesman or someone said would NOT happen?
I may be wrong, but even if I am I think this is a bad, bad, bad idea. CoH was highly PvE in the beginning and a great number of us don't want anything to do with PvP, in some cases having come from PvP games (UO/EQ/DAoC, etc.).
I just want to go on record letting Lord Recluse and the other devs know that this point will probably raise some major hackles and alienate many fans.
I know the PK'er mentality types will flame me for saying it, but it doesn't seem fair to give PvP people rewards that PvE'ers cannot attain through THEIR preferred mode of gaming (and I really have to ask Dave and Jack here if you all have any statistics of what the actual percentage of each might be).
If you're going to do that then you need to make sure there are rewards that only NON-PvP'ers can get and I don't mean the existing badges. It's unfair otherwise.
I don't mean to sound petulant, I'm actually very calm and will endure the flames with dignity but I don't want our excellent devs not to be aware that the PvE crowd (amongst whom I mostly stand, I might do SOME PvP but not much most likely, had enough in other games) may raise hell over this issue.
Flame on! -
I wasn't impressed by the actual comic book part; it felt too far removed from the Paragon City I know and love. Nice try is the best I'll give it.
The cover art was pretty good though. -

But this is my point! Why does multiplayer = team only and not team optional? Why? How is that better? Is that definition unchallengeable?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because multiplayer all by yourself is oxymoronic. If there is nothing for multiple players is isnt multiplayer by definition. Or perhaps you have some strange new definition for multiple.
[/ QUOTE ]
The 'multiple' part would still be there. If we solo a mission, or even a Task Force, there would still be other people playing in the same world. That's where the Multi-Player aspect comes in. We're all still playing in the same world. And those who want to team and socialize will do that no matter what content is soloable. However, those of us who mostly solo would get to do and see other aspects of the game. That's all. It wont trivialize anything, or anyone. Teams would still have people, because many soloers weren't teaming anyway. I just don't see the problem. The big hoo-ha with multi-player games is the social aspect anyway. Not the group combat. Besides, it's not like Hamidon would ever be soloable.
[/ QUOTE ]
Very well said Jonah! Stars for you
It often amazes me how people get hung up in that "multiple means no solo!" mentality. Just because a game is available online (i.e. a Massively Multiplayer Online game) does not mean that some people might not want to do things in that world on their own, perhaps occasionally teaming or just having the pleasure of knowing that it is a "living" world made up of other real players, even while they themselves are the lone wolf.
In a strange way, MMO's actually encourage the lone wolf/solo player in exactly that way! I am one of those people who only teams occasionally and it makes it more fun soloing knowing that there are Supergroups out there, etc. and that I'm "doin' my own thing" so to speak.
Anyway, to those fuddy duddies who think we can't ALL have our playstyle here, I suggest worrying less about what other people do and just focus on having fun YOUR way
Let's all just get alowng -

Cherry blossom festival this weekend! See you there!! -
I almost used "cars" myself then I remembered that all my friends from the U.S. northeast pronounce it "cahs" to rhyme with "has" instead of "cars" to rhyme with "Mars."
I went with "Oz" instead since I think everyone pronounces that the same.
Good question in any case. -
Poz,
Do you mean "Vahz" to rhyme with "Oz?"
I always thought it was "vaz" to rhyme with "has." -
I got TWO Elite Bosses the other evening in a mission I was doing Solo
I /bugged it.

Dang straight. Post your ideas/thought/opinions. I read 'em - and so does the design team. And I'm not such a prima donna that I can't go back on a past decision and eat some crow.
The most important thing is the quality of the game. That's it. Everything else is secondary (including ego's).

And that sir, is why you are one of the finest developers ever to grace the MMORPG industry!

2. After analysis, Scrappers CAN NOT reach the same levels of resistance as a Tank. Regeneration, though, is a small concern.

Statesman, just for those of us with weak hearts, could you clarify if this tweak is in the positive direction or if it's in the "N" direction?
After going though goodness knows how many alts I finally found a main who I love...and of course he's a DM/Regen Scrapper. All worried now. Please soothe frazzled nerves sir? -

President (Working on Important Business, doesn't look up): What is it?
Secretary: Mr. President, we have an Emergency on our hands!!!!
President (Pauses and looks away from computer): Yes?
Secretary: This just came in! (Hands Document to President) Approximately 85% of all Office Workers have called in sick or have come down with a strange sickness at work today! Mr. President, we may have an epidemic on our hands!
President (looking serious): I'll inform the public immediately.
Secretary: Mr. President, what could be going on?
President (looks briefly at computer which has his CoH character, "President Man" safe in the hospital): Uh... I don't know...

Gang,
I'm holding off on touching Super Strength until we tackle a somewhat greater issue with Tankers - namely that they lack that "comic book feel." Specifically, you'd like to see Super Strength be something somewhat, well, "Hulk-ish." But currently, Super Strength is a poor cousin to Scrapper powers - which seems somewhat out of place. Don't worry - what we're looking at as a fix for ALL Tankers addresses this issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ummm just wanted to correct one thing. Currently SS is a poor cousin to most of the other TANKER secondaries. Scrappers are playing in a whole different game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I can vouch for this. I played my Invul/SS Tanker from beta onward and around level 17 just gave up (I know, I didn't have Invincibility yet hehe).
I switched to Dark Melee/Regen Scrapper and felt instantly SUPER again!
I do hope all goes well and Statesman is on the case for those who toughed it out as Tankers. I think this bodes well. We have the best devs in the biz!
