I'm ready for the snuggle scene with DP! -
Quote:I'm unable to duplicate this on 5770's. What driver set are you using?Trying to use organic armour pieces at the tailor causes my PC to lockup. Screen goes black and I have to reset. ATI HD5750 card.
It does not lock up straight away but it crashes before I can finish all my changes. Sometimes it crashes in the power customisation screen but only if I pick any of the new costume pieces. -
Quote:lessee... the only outstanding issue with ATi and CoH as of right now is Ambient Occlusion and Antialiasing are borked on the RadeonHD 5000 series cards.Ok so since I couldn't fix my weird crashing issue. I basically bought a new computer.
I7 930, 2.8ghz
Asus P6t-SE
Mushkin 6gb DDR3 ram 1600mhz
Sapphire 5770 1gb 256bit
Now I've been with Nvidia for quite some time so I wanted to make sure what I should expect of this ATI. IS there any driver issue I should know about, driver version to avoid..etc?
I know ATI have some issue still with CoH but as long as the game doesn't crash like the last one.. i'll be happy with whatever I need to disable..
Atop Windows CoH's Ultra Mode works across 10.1, 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6. -
yeah, yesterday's war was tiring. The puppeh forces eventually descended into gnawing and chewing from under the couches during the victory party.

updates from the field of battle.
The Kitteh's Tiger Brigade has broken through the Puppeh Defensive line, taking the Fridge for all it's worth.
General Neko Ali, responsible in part for the relaunch of hostilities has been spotted in a neutral lap napping.
Reports from both sides indicate that the FireKitties and HellHounds have entered into combat with an Ice Creature. The Ice Creature is expected to be melted shortly.
The campaign for the hearts and minds of all non-kitties goes well as Kittenganda Minister VexXxa launches a brand new multimedia campaign for the Kitten Forces.
As a counter move, it's been reported that the Puppeh have begun areal bombings of the Coffee Machine, violating the neutral air-zone of Coffeeopia.

um. heads up.
USE THE 9.3.1 or 9.3 DRIVERS
The 10.2 roll-out has a bug that prevents CoH from working properly. -
Quote:I tend to agree with the concept of "making items more readily available without having to use the Auction House / Market"well that not right, who puts in up in the market lists it for whatever they want.
i think the only way for the devs to make sure the markets dont get overily priced is to lower the merit vendors prices. byt 5%-10% nothing to outrageous. i know i might get flack about this but i wanted to give ps my thoughts and concerns.
I've got a post floating around that is hugely un-popular with many players because I state flat out that the solution to the Auction House / Market does not have to involve the Auction House / Market: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...82&postcount=1
- A solution to the rising inflation of Auction House goods must be equally available to all players on a consistent basis. Solutions based on luck of the drops or time played are inherently unfair to the casual player or may only have 4 hours a week to spend in the game, or for regular players who might run into problems with work scheduling or other outside issues.
- A solution to the rising inflation must be neutral to all alignments. Devising a solution that only benefits one alignment will do nothing but anger a significant amount of the player base.
- A solution to the rising inflation cost should be non-farmable, or have decreasing values in farm environments. A system should encourage players to... play the game... and not simply "work the system" for maximum benefit.
- A solution must keep in mind that the vast majority of the game needs to be balanced against Single Origin builds, not tweaked IO builds.
- A solution does not need to encourage players to participate in the Auction House System
Presuming the developers were to agree with these guidelines, yes, lowering average merit costs would indeed help players put their avatars into an IO state without having to grind or farm certain contents on a repeating basis. -
The topic has been broached before about changing the loader system before to use a Webkit / KHTML or Gecko backend instead of relying on the IE engine to drive webpage generation.
Case in point is Steam which recently left it's dependency on Internet Explorer and developed an entire user-interface using Webkit / KHTML. One of the (many) reasons Valvesoftware moved to Webkit / KHTML is that the new rendering system was platform independent, and a continued reliance on I.E. as a backend would make the *Nix (OSX and Linux) Native clients harder to work with. Not impossible, but more code would have to be created to handle each system's native browsing back-end rather than implementing an existing cross-platform browser engine into the client's code.
One of the advantages to dropping the I.E. backend is the ability to expose to the end user to options to specify which external browsing program should be called for different tasks, such as opening up webpages.
It has been commented that leaving the I.E. backend would require development resources that were not currently available, and the possibility of a loader re-code is expected to be broached after Going Rogue ships.

Now, not to leave you without a fix for what you want now, it is possible to force Microsoft Windows to direct all calls made to explorer.exe's browser mode to another existing browser, such as FireFox, Opera, Chrome, Safari, or Konqueror.
As to how to do that, I'm not sure I could give you accurate instructions. -
Quote:Castle has actually said it's in the hands of the U.I. guys. However, there hasn't been a clear way stated for us to contact the U.I. guys and tell them to add a prompt / no-prompt option. It was changed back because it was always intended to be changed back. It was only removed so they could fix a bug and return it.
That said, yes, there are several threads of people (I included) who would like the option to turn it off. Since it's a buff (not a power like teleport and its prompt), that may be problematic for the devs, though. -
* * * Breaking News : Breaking News * * *
Today the war between the Kittehs and the Puppehs resumed. The Kitteh's made gains across the ChewToy Plains, fighting the forces of Puppeh in all out hissing and barking melee.
The Puppeh Offensive lines advanced within the residential sections of Cat-Tree City, preferring to use dirty guerrilla tactics such as marking the bases of trees, and yapping at any Kitteh that dared to lower a paw to the ground.
The fight at the Kitchen reached a standstill, with the Puppeh faction holding the Fridge with a barricade of Rocking Chair traps and the Kitteh Faction holding at the Can Opener with a strong defense of ribbon mines and ribbon turrets.
Reports from other areas are still coming in, with indications that the Puppeh Faction have brought out the catnip grenades in the fight for the living room couch.

Quote:Really. Fleeting. Have you read ANYTHING D.V. has posted in this thread? Logic and whoever is at the keyboard are as separated as a fool and his money. If you've been asking to be removed, they probably just stopped bothering to invite you

You realize that the whole electrocution thing was AC vs. DC, not free vs. profit, right? And on top of that, Edison killed animals (and paid a guy to invent the electric chair) because Tesla was working with Westinghouse to commercialize AC power, which would usurp Edison's existing DC power distribution.
Repeat: Tesla wanted to sell AC power. Topsy the elephant was killed with AC to discourage the use of AC, not to promote paying for it. You claim doesn't even make sense.
Einstein failed mathematics in school. He didn't suck at math.
That being said, that is an excellent rebuttal

Quote:yes. you did.hmph! Amazon.com notified me today:
Wait, what? July 20th for Going Rogue? Did I miss something?
Back in March Going Rogue was targeted for a July Release: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...ing-rogue.html
The game has basically been delayed from the July Time point: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.co...ouncement.htmlQuote:Upon release this coming July there are two ways to get your hands on Going Rogue The Going Rogue Expansion and the Going Rogue: Complete Collection.
Some retail vendors, like Amazon, had already assigned a July release point in their Point of Sales (P.O.S.) systems. Other retail vendors, like Gamestop, had assigned a late August or early September release for the product in their P.O.S. systems.Quote:NCsoft and Paragon Studios are proud to announce that players will have the opportunity to walk the line between good and evil (or cross it), on August 17th, 2010
Theoretically we should see the "new" official launch date propagating through retail vendors P.O.S. systems over the next few weeks. It could take some time for the guys running the databases to get everything synched though. -
Quote:There is a difference between making an informational request, such as:Have they said what'll happen if you blab about meeting the requirements for one of the waves of beta invites and say you're looking forward to said invite? I ask only for information.
Hi there: Last year I heard that there were going to be various waves of beta's for players who met certain qualifications. Does anybody know if this Wave invite system is active?
and what most of these threads are:
Hey! I met a qualification for one of the previously announced Beta Invites! Why haven't I been invited yet!?

Quote:yeah, I kept thinking along this line myself. Sometimes the "gameplay" mechanic needs to trump "logic."By the way, for those of you who RP, do you actually have to make a merged market "canon"? Like just because the game makes items available to both sides via the markets, you don't have to think of that as being an in-game thing - I assume most RPers don't try and work the floating damage and healing numbers or the player names above every avatar head into their "in-character" stuff, as they're just visible game mechanics to help make gameplay easier, so I don't see why it wouldn't be easy to look at the combined markets in the same way - an "out-of-character" game mechanic to make the game work better.
Another excellent case in point was the original granite armor for Stone Tanks, which had an accuracy debuff. In logical terms it makes sense that a multi-ton hunk of rock would have problems accurately hitting enemies, and enemies would have an easy time figuring out what attack the multi-ton hunk of rock was launching. In play it was found that the accuracy debuff was frustrating to players constantly wiffing at mobs. The debuff also prevented the tank from fulfilling it's gameplay design: holding aggro.
So, the granite armor penalty was changed to just do less damage. No, it doesn't make sense that a multi-ton hunk of solid rock punching an enemy does less damage, but the game-play goal of a debuff penalty to the armor set was met without aggravating the player.
That particular change has been in place for so long, it's barely thought of now. Yes, the topic comes up every once in a while when somebody declares it's time for Stone Armor to be revamped... but for the most part the player base has gotten used to the sacrifice of logic in favor of game-play mechanics.
I suspect in time the more hard-core Role-Players will also accept the sacrifice of a bit of story immersion in favor of a superior game-play mechanic. -
Quote:I imagine VexXa's earthquake detection is... http://www.sgvy.com/archives/Edda1/Issue2/Page1.htmlYou must be near Ontario, Canada! How'd you like the tumbler?
I live in So. Cali where we get them quite often! -
TCS. we don't have to assume.
We can read your posts.
We know your history here.
I'm going to be blunt here. If I was in the closed beta and I saw you login, I'd hit the /petition immediately, then go find something else to play until well after the game releases. Whether or not you like it, and from all aspects either you do not like it or do not realize it, you have a reputation as a troll. You have a reputation as a player that does not understand the base mechanics of the game. You have stepped on the toes, repeatedly, of many of the better players.
We've tried to correct you in the past. We've tried to engage you on a "meaningful" level. From all past attempts, we have failed.
Again, being blunt, I harbor no doubts that the only reason you want to be in the beta is to oooh and aaah over the shiny new features. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in providing feedback on any new mechanics to the developers. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in providing feedback to Intel, Nvidia, or AMD/ATi. I harbor no doubts that you are not interested in testing Cider / Cedega compatibility. I, as a player with a personal opinion, harbor no doubts that the only thing you could bring to a beta environment is a complete and total ability to torque off all of the other players.
Beyond that, the developers have done everything but say: If you ask to be in the beta, you will not be in the beta.
Now, if you have a legit reason for asking to be in the beta, that does somewhat change. Lets say you work for a third party that is semi-involved with the game, such as AMD, Intel, Nvidia, Transgaming, or Khronos; feel free to PM a mod asking if it would be possible to gain access to the closed beta.

Quote:as of the current build on the test server, the slifbos 2 command has been disabled and is not accelerating SLI setups. Is CoX supporting SLI and crossfire yet or are we still using the "work around" addition to the shortcut? And if it isn't yet is that something that's going to happen in the near future? A RED NAME would be nice to see here...just wondering if anyone knows.
There is no known "official" method of enabling multi-gpu support at this time.
