Quote:this has got to be the most subtle request for Mastermind Pet Customization I've seen in months.Anyone else think this? I wish there was an option to customize them a little.
I give you congrats on that.
On the request itself... well... um...
NO. Nobody else thinks that. Everybody else thinks the Demons are frigging awesome. There are lots of words and descriptions that can be used for the Demon summonings. Ugly? Oh yes. Grotesque? Got that covered too. Well-Endowed? Well that prince certainly is packing a big gun. Silly? Yeah, they are kind a comical bobble-heading down a street.
Meh? Average? Boring? No. Not even close. These words do not belong in the same sentence describing the Mastermind Demon Pets.
Also: a little late to be talking about how they look. They've been in the game for well over 2 months now. -
Quote:+repBack in my day we ran things because they were fun not because we were going to get rewarded for it! I mean pre-IOs didn't you ever play a level 50, you weren't getting xp, influence at that point was a joke, I guess people may have played for prestige but for the most part it was for the fun.
CoP is challenging I think that the runs I did on my Emp were the most fun I've had on him in years.
I would run this just for the fun of it. Then again, I sometimes pvp and there is 0.000000001% incentive to do that.
Not everything in the game has to be about maximizing rewards, or getting the most exp per second, or number crunching till everything is perfect.
One of the most common complaints leveled against Castle, Arcaneville (sp?), and Bill Z Bubba is that they understand the number crunching, they understand the spreadsheets, but they don't understand the Human aspect of playing: the "I do this because it's just FUN!" mentality.
There needs to be a balance struck between the aspect of what is fun, and what is numerically correct. One of Jack Emmert's big problems is that he only thinks in terms of wouldn't this be cool. Early City of Heroes (pre-ed), and Champions Online stand as testements to the poor gameplay that simply focusing on wat would be cool can derive. You can very quickly get classes that are far too overpowered, classes that are far too underpowered, and very specific gameplay moments.
Another one of the aspects of the game where the players themselves can make a dramatic difference in the event. In the case of CoP, some teams full of competent players with tweaked IO builds will struggle to complete the Trial. Some teams with only SO builds will crush it in 15 minutes flat.- This makes delivering accurate rewards difficult.
- The only way to balance rewards is to do data-mining.
- Data mining takes time.
They are likely to watch the numbers generated from the number of times teams fail, the amount of average time it takes to complete the trial, and then balance the potential rewards against those factors, the hard-numbers first. -
probably not. Best offer would have been 100mil, if that.
Players who really want those recipes will be turning to the Hero / Villain Merit system. -
Quote:yes / no / not really.Does the game no longer support ATI 9550 graphics card? I get 2 messages about ARB multi-texture and then a long message that the 9550 is not support and I need an ATI Radeon 8500 or better. Is the 9550 not better than the 8500? (Yes, I'm not a computer hardware literate person.)
AMD Retired support for these cards back in 2009.
The last driver update to support these cards was the 9-3 release for Vista, and 9-3-1 for Windows Xp:
9-3-1 :: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...?&lang=English
9-3 :: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...?&lang=English
The game still works in the "classic" rendering mode (non-ultra-mode) options against these drivers.
As far as the Radeon 8500.
That was retired back in 2006. -

We'll see if they extend the end of the transfer period a day or two. Probably so, but how many transfers does one person need to do? Even three or four days should be plenty.

Quote:Remember: Dev Digest and Community Digest are your Happy Fun Time Tree Ball, don't taunt them, Friends!Will my L50 character be able to visit Praetoria?
War Witch:
Yes, but not right off the bat. Right now, we want to give Praetorians as pure an experience as possible and it's hard to give them that if some Paragonian or Rogue Islander shows up, breaking their immersion. So for a little while, we'll keep it Praetorian-only, then as things settle down, we'll open up the link to Primals.

In terms of raw Frames Per Second, the 5770 and the 4870 are fairly evenly matched.
The 5770 will do DX11 / OpenGL 4.0.
The 4870 will not.
In some games this means you can get a much better image off of a 5770 than you will off of a 4870, such as in Unigine.
Unigine Heaven 2.1 :: 4850 :: Tessellation - No :: TGA Source

Unigine Heaven 2.1 :: 5770 :: Tessellation - On :: TGA Source

Unigine Heaven 2.1 :: 4850 :: Tessellation - No :: TGA Source

Unigine Heaven 2.1 :: 5770 :: Tessellation - On :: TGA Source

Unigine Heaven 2.1 :: 5770 :: Tessellation - Off :: TGA Source

As you can see in the screen-shots there is a drastic difference in the Image Quality that the 5770 can push in comparison to the 4870 when leveraging OpenGL 4.0 / DX11 features.
City of Heroes does not have an OpenGL 4.0 client. CoH's Ultra Mode only leverages OpenGL 3.x calls, so there's no current image difference between running Ultra Mode on a RadeonHD 4870 and a RadeonHD 5770.
In reference to City of Heroes, right now, there's no practical or real difference between the 5770 and the 4870. If this is the only game you play, save your money.
If this is NOT the only game you play, the 5770 may be worth the extra cash. -

Quote:are you running any software that overclocks the processor, lets you few the fan speed, modify the fan speed, or view the temperatures the processor puts out?Yep. It's an 8800. I just updated the drivers a few days ago as well. Not sure what Rivatuner or EVGA Precision is though. Could you clarify? Thanks for the help.
E.G.: did you install the software that came on the disc with the graphics card. -
Quote:let me guess.Since the last update, the game locks up anytime I try to exit. It happens both when I try and exit from the log on screen as well as "Exit now" when logging off. It does not lock up when I exit off a toon back to log in.
I have tried verifying all files, with no luck. Right now the only way I can exit is to terminate the process through Task Manager. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Rivatuner or Rivatuner derived program such as "EVGA Precision" -
Quote:First: Going Rogue only officially launched today. If those servers aren't operational by 12midnight Western time (1am Central, 2am Eastern), then, and ONLY then can you say anything about amount of time with the external servers down.Seriously, I'm getting really irritated. 2 days with it down is just unacceptable. Whats the point of all this new content if many of us can't even play it?
Second: Going Rogue is playable, today. Right now. If you don't have a slot on your favorite server, tough. Go play on another server.
Same goes for you. If your friends can't play on the server you picked out, move to a different server. Problem. Solved. Not that big a deal. You can always transfer back in later.Quote:Exactly, it looks great, but I can't create any praetorians on my chosen server and neither can most of my friends, this is turning into a bit of a fiasco.
You REALLY need to get the server transfers working and the store open, there is mutinous talk about.
Basically, get those bunched panties unbunched. -

Will there be more zones added to Praetoria as time goes on, or is this the scope of what you wanted for it and that's it?
War Witch:
If I have any say in the matter, which I do, yes. We will add to Praetoria. It's too amazing and rich a universe to introduce it and forget about it. We've just scratched the surface on what's going on there, so I'd like players to see what else is going on.
GEE, COV WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RICH UNIVERSE AND YOU HAVEN'T DONE JACK WITH IT- nice to know what to expect with Praetoria- based on experience- nada.
It's covered several times in the thread and I went into it in post #38 directly: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...7&postcount=38
Since NCSoft bought City of Heroes out from Cryptic every issue release has been balanced across CoV and CoH, with no side getting more or less content or features than the other. -

Quote:if you are going to upgrade "now" with Multi-gpu in mind, go with the GTX 460 in SLI.Apologies if this is the inncorrect forum.
Right now, I am running on a intel quad-core, 260 GTX Sli. I heard the 5870 was good, and just realized they have the 5970. Would it beat my GTX 260 in sli mode? I'm looking at the 2GB model, not the 4 GB.
You'll save a ton of cash compared to the 5970... and the GTX 460 in 2X SLI is actually as fast, if not faster in many games, than the almost year old 5970 and 5870 in 2X Crossfire.
The GTX 460 not as fast in games where multi-gpu support doesn't really work... like City of Heroes. In single GPU modes the base GTX 460 can only really keep pace with the RadeonHD 5830, while the 1gb model can fit in somewhere between the 5830 and the 5850. Still, a single GTX 460 1gb is more powerful than GTX 260 SLI.
If you don't mind waiting though... AMD has already announced they won't be doing a product refresh on the 5x00 series line-up. They'll be going straight into the 6000 series... and rumor has it the 6000 series will launch on the 5x00 series one year birthdate... which is next month.
We don't know yet, for certain, that the $200~$230 RadeonHD 6x00 card will be able to keep up with the GTX 460 in multi-gpu modes... so waiting till next month does not mean you'll get a better card for the same price-point. -

Quote:Okay. I'm not really going to touch on the number of other storylines and events in the game that suggest events above and beyond the Teen rating. The hint that Dominatrix "services" Tyrant in every way was something that helped frame them as the "bad guys" Now, if the story needs to be clarified for rating purposes, that yes, players need to get their heads out of the gutter, fine. There are far worse things that the players can do or experience in the game.No, it needed to never be there in the first place.
Aside from the fact that it is 100% hands-down no-argument-possible inappropriate for the game's rating, it was the smoking gun revealing that the whole Statesman-Recluse thing was a big fat retcon.
I am going to ask where you think that it is a "smoking" gun on Recluse / Statesman being a retcon.
I'm not going to argue, or say, that the Rogue Isles and the conflict between Stefan and Marcus was not an add-on to the story made when CoV first was conceived.
I am going to say that your... association here... makes absolutely no sense. I don't think anybody on the planet has ever thought that the conflict between Marcus and Stefan was something conceived at the start of the game. I think it was pretty clear to anybody who remotely read anything at all related to City of Villains knew that Stefan / Lord Recluse and his cadre was a new creation that was inserted into the story, and that the pre-existing story was modified to account for the presence of the Rogue Isles.
To highlight the events of Praetoria as a "smoking gun" that Rogue Isles was not originally part of the CoH concept isn't just stupid. It's... I think you just managed to insult the intelligence of everybody that has ever played the game. -

Quote:... That did NOT need to be taken out.
The Praetorian counterparts were re-imagined with their original presentation kept in mind (we didn't want to retcon unless we had to *cough*suggestionsofinappropriatefamilialrelations hips*cough*.) (WW: That's him, not me.)
That needs to be left IN the story.
