    Won't be happening.

It's already been indicated that Tyrant will be the final I-trial set in Praetoria, and that after that the next series of Trials will likely deal with the Battalion.

Yes / No / Not Really.

Again, going back to what I said in Post #33:

Okay, granted, Calvin Scott is not a member of the Freedom Phalanx, Vindicators, or Regulators in Primal Earth. He's just married to one of the Vindicators. Insert your own joke here about the marrying for her for her shenanigans. (NO, I'm NOT sorry!!)

By the same token, Calvin's Praetorian counterpart is likewise not a leader of one of the Imperial factions under Tyrant. Instead, the Praetorian Calvin is slowly revealed to the player as a Vigilante who has justified and rationalized every despicable action as the only way to bring Tyrant down. At some point the Praetorian Calvin came to believe that the only way to fight Tyrant was to use Tyrant's own methods.

The Praetorian Calvin Scott is not meant to be a Hero or a role model. In some aspects I think his own fall from grace is supposed to mimic that of Emperor Cole, but it's not quite the same. Calvin Scott still wants what is best for Praetoria, and I think that on some level he understands that what he is doing is wrong. I'm not convinced that Tyrant has considered the possibility that the steps he has taken could have been wrong.

reportedly Prometheus has more details on the Battalion after the Underground Trial is completed.

One of my concerns right now is that the Battalion will be "VIP" only. If they are indeed so powerful that players need the incarnate system to fight them, that would prevent any and all Free/Premium players from being able to participate in content with the Battalion.

Who is to say that Cole didn't implant the idea in Duray's mind (omgz, inception!), of using the Hamidon Seeds - then in front of his own troops, pin the blame firming on Duray, making Cole look like the level-headed benevolent leader to those who follow him, while still getting the more murky methods of attacking Primal Earth that he wanted.

He wipes the memory on Duray, Duray never is the better to what's happened, and Cole gets to keep playing the role of of "savior", while going about it in much more evil ways.

I think you read that wrong.

It seems pretty clear that Duray is responsible for letting the Praetorian Hamidon loose on Primal Earth, or rather, NOW is responsible for having done so.

Emperor Cole is a legitimate Hero of the Hamidon Wars, and on some level, he really did care for those under him. However, that care has been twisted and warped to various extremes. One of those extremes is that Emperor Cole has no problems pacifying the population through the Enriche drink. Nor does Emperor Cole have no problems with whole-sale slaughter of other Superpowers. Emperor Cole does not have problem with abducting citizens under his protection, wiping their minds, cloning them, and them forcing them into his service.

Is he as evil and as psychotic as we were lead to believe in our first encounter? Oh Hell Yes.

Every single Praetorian Faction Leader is a VILLAIN.

Not all villains have to be chainsaw wielding maniacs.

You can re-get the mission by swapping sides.

His arc is also being added to Ouro Flashback: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...29&postcount=1

    Mender Ramiel

Players who switch alignments in the middle of Mender Ramiel's arc should now be able to continue progression of the arc on their new alignment. If they are asked to speak to Lord Recluse or Statesman and can no longer reach that NPC, they can abandon the task and reobtain it from Ramiel for the more appropriate version.

As a known side effect of this fix, players who previously completed the Villain version of this arc may be able to obtain the new generic version of this arc from Ramiel.

Mender Ramiel's arc is now accessible via Flashback. All members of the Flashback team must have completed the arc in the regular timestream and be VIPs in order to play the arc in Flashback.

You'll be better off looking for tips missions in Grandville that pit you against the CoT and getting a damage obelisk.

If that isn't your reason for asking this question, my gut reaction is "probably not"

As far as I am aware Lava only shows up as a damage component in... well... two maps that I can think of.

First map is the Cavern of Transcendence / Cap SF Trial Behemoth pit.

Second map is the Tyrant Cave / Crucible map.

Outside of those locations I don't think I have seen or encountered any other maps with Lava.

Yep, I didn't say anything about Korean Developers. I said... let's see... "somebody from Korea" and "dictacted by NCSoft-Korea".

So you think the fact that NCSoft is a Korean company makes them mythical?

You think that NCSoft Korea which wholly owns Paragon Studios has absolutely no say what-so-ever in the running of Paragon Studios?

    Quote:
Considering when the buyout and creation of Paragon Studios happened they specifically did say they were an independent entity when it came to the content and products they developed, it's pretty easy to say you're making things up.
Yes, Yes you do think that.

Okay, let me pose a question to you: How does being an independent entity change the radical changes of behavior of Paragon Studios staff?

Have Positron, Second Measure, War Witch, and Ghost Falcon ever struck you as the type of people to suddenly change development practices and priorities?

Have any of the Paragon Studios staff ever struck you as the type of people who would willingly force players to utilize a software package that is often associated with successful malicious intrusions?

Does the past history of Paragon Studios indicate that they would go out of their way to screw players over with prices?

Oh yeah, there's a whole frigging thread about the change of direction on Paragon Studios part, maybe you should read it: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=268081

Let me quote something I already said there:

    Quote:
I've been asked by the devs on the beta server to PM devs here on the forums to try and get updates on the OSX / Linux compatibility issues with Transgaming's compatibility layer. So far I've received absolutely zero, zilch, and nada in the way of responses.

It reminds me so much of the "bad old days" that I really question whose running Paragon Studios right now. I know that none of the leadership we've had, be it Ghost Falcon, Positron, War Witch, and Second Measure, are foolish enough to repeat the errors that Cryptic managed so many years ago.

The only logical conclusion I can come up with is that somebody is over-riding the Developers managing of the game. Whether or not that over-ride is coming from marketing or from NCSoft's Korean branch is immaterial. It's a direction I do not like our developers taking.

It's also a direction that the only way I can respond to is by taking my money elsewhere.
Let me be clear here Lemur Lad since I think what I said probably went over your head:

I am saying that the game and it's direction is now being controlled by NCSoft Korea.

It is my opinion that NCSoft Korea is directing the radical change in the behavior of Paragon Studio developers to change internal policies in order to create more content that could be considered sellable through the in-game market.

It is my opinion that at some point Paragon Studios went from an independent entity to one that is being controlled by NCSoft-Korea.

Can I prove that? No, I don't have microphones in NCSoft's Korean offices?

Can you prove that Paragon Studios is not being directed by NCSoft Korea to change the positioning of City of Heroes?

I think you'll have a bloody hard time proving that to everybody who looked at the beta price list and went What the bleeding hell?

I have never heard any dev say "No" to extra enhancement trays. If there is a post somewhere please link it.
These kind of went together. The "no" to players unslotting tricked out builds typically went hand and hand with "that's why you only have 10 enhancement slots"

As to whether or not a specific developer who said they were being generous with only 10 enhancement slots, or if that was a player interpretation of what the developers said about only having 10 enhancement slots, I'll just pass on giving a specific answer and just point out how often the generous enhancement slots reasoning attributed to the developers gets trotted out.

    Quote:
The devs have not reversed their position on power set or AT respecs. Posi told you that while powerset respecs were technically possible, they're not developing them. That's still a "No".
It is a much different no than has been stated in the past. The previous stance was that such respecs went against the design of the game, as well as invalidated a large amount of work put into the game.

Positron's statement that it had been asked for internally really sounds to me like somebody from Korea was looking for something else to put into the store. That Positron no longer gave a flat "no we are not doing that" is cause for concern, and I think justifies this as a position reverse... albeit one that really appears to be dictated by NCSoft-Korea rather than the Paragon Studios developers.

This one I don't know about.
I forget when the +fear to burn was added. For some reason, the addition is not explicitly noted anywhere in the published patch notes on Paragon Wiki, nor is it in Red Tomax's log files.

So forgive me if I have to go from memory. The +fear effect was added to Burn, reportedly to force Fiery Aura's to team with controller / dominator types for maximum damage efficiency. The design choice was only reversed a little over a year ago: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Patch_No...-16#Fiery_Aura

    Quote:
The only "reversal" I've seen the devs make was making Stamina inherent and that wasn't a reversal because what the dev in question actually said was that he'd rather get rid of Stamina altogether rather than make it inherent.

Obviously you can't get rid of Stamina altogether without completely redesigning how powers work. So making it inherent was the easier task.
Fair enough. F.Grubb did indeed leave after this change was implemented, so this could be considered a reversal.

    • Unslotting enhancements
    Now in I21
    • Extra enhancement trays
    Now in I21
    • power-set respecs
Not planned, takes a lot of work, but no longer a flat no.
    • Fear on Burn

Outside of this rather small list I'm not really aware of any other game design direction / decisions that the Devs have given a flat no to, or said they were not going to do.

For the most part pretty much every other time the devs have said "no" to something it's been a case of lack of resources, such as Power Customization

She has her own thread about FX improvements for the game: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=260438

Here are some of the things she has said in that thread:

    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=113

    Quote:
I’ve seen a metric ton of requests for pool/epic/ancillary powers customization. (And no, asking for it is not breaking the rules at all.) I’m a long way from promises on that one, but all I can say right now is that your requests have been noted, underlined, and bolded, as have qualms with the default travel power effects.
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=217

    Quote:
(And while I can't comment on specifics for new systems like dual-auras/ dual-color auras, and a way to turn off certain power effects, I want to at least acknowledge that I've seen them and know you want them. Generally, they'd require a significant chunk of programming time, and our programmers are absolutely swamped for the time being. We won't forget about these requests, though.)

    ...

Another factor is that FX time is shared by a lot of other tasks besides auras. We are constantly working on effects for new powers, villain groups, zones, cutscenes, storyarcs, etc. An issue full of new powers and content, like I20, doesn't always leave a lot of time to devote to auras. Still, we realize how important character customization is to our players, and we do schedule time for that. We just can't focus all our time on auras and nothing else!
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...&postcount=369

    Quote:
Italics represent my clarification, Zyphoid. Hope you don't mind. I’m seeing a lot of requests that would tie into Pools Customization, so let me elaborate a little on what’s involved here.

Most importantly, this isn’t a task that requires only FX time. To implement these options into the powers customization screen, we need UI and code time. It’s true that we’ve already added an additional heading to this screen for Incarnate powers, but that was just one heading. We will need to add several headings to the powers customization screen to implement pool powers customization. And by several, I mean more than the screen can currently support. We also need code to help us address the question of whether all of the possible ancillary, patron and regular pools are visible in the screen at character creation, or whether they are added later in the game as you choose your powers. The first option will require code time, and the second option will require more code time. Then we'll need a UI artist to revise the powers screen and make sure it's as readable and attractive as possible.

I know some of you are really dying for an update on the state of pool powers customization. Being one of many people necessary for this feature, I'm not the best person to share this information. When and if there is solid information, we'll make an announcement.
I think Tunnel rat explains why power customization is not an easy fix, as well as addressing all other pertinent questions that have been raised in this thread.
