  1. Personally I kinda like the difference between them. On Guardian from what I've seen, as Phosyb said, mostly new players go to AP, while the more experienced ones go to Galaxy. So generally if you feel like hanging with some rookies to help em out or have some fun like costume contests, AP is a better choice, while if you feel like getting down to business with an alt, or want some freedom to move around, GC is the place to be.
  2. Dunno bout the cheese, but I'm down with blue.
  3. Me? I go for the Ts in Tsunami, or more commonly in it's, since we can't even agree on how to pronounce tsunami.

As for Striga, I pronounce the 'i' and 'a' like I do in pizza. Stree-gah. Not Peezzaa, Pizza.

Interestingly enough "Tub Ci" is the leader of the "Txhu"
Tub in Hmong means "Son" (and is used in phrases to describe different groups of people like messenger and soldier) and "Ci" means bright or to shine. So his name might mean something like "The Bright Son".

    Or, phonetically, Sunshine
  5. This may be a bit trickier, but it would be nice if we could have "reserve" membership, linked to being in two SGs at once. Like having a primary SG which is displayed under your name as it is now, and another one you can also join with a reserve status, so you can still get the chats and costume color options, and just have a note that says you're a reserve member for that SG in your description, or info when someone checks, but you can't be promoted, or anything like that.

It's a bit much, and not something many would find a use for, but it would be nice. I've had some experiences with friends and myself, where we had commitments to an SG, but played with another SG more of the time.

I'm beginning to see why Statesman has survived so many skirmishes and wars, HES THE LAST ONE TO ARRIVE.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    LOL, good stuff.

Also, I love your sig, I was dying from laughter when I heard it the first time.
  7. Also one thing I failed to mention is I recall a Dev (Statesman?) saying that the(a) reason for keeping flight slow is that it requires too much to animate everything a flier see's at a high speed. Birds eye view requires a lot of graphic rendering.

However, superjumpers with SS render would seem to prove that wrong, since they spend most of their time at high altitudes at high speeds, even without SS.
  8. One thing, a lot of you have brought up the combat effectiveness of flight. It's not supposed to be combat effective, and that won't change. Ever. The Acc penalty will always be there. Why? Hover. How many powers can you really put into a flight pool? Let's look.

Air Superiority. [censored]? Its a [censored] hit with knockdown and possible stun. The only thing that ties it to flight is the name. It's basically Bonesmasher with less damage.

    Hover. Slow flight.

    Fly. Duh.

Group Flight. ....Seriously? Who can do this besides telekinetics? Gravity controllers, kinetic controllers, magic users. What hero can fly and make others fly due to their FLIGHT power? This is concept.

Fly pool = Flight and 3 filler powers. Hover will stay for that reason in addition to the multitude of other players that already have it. Hover is what it was originally named. Combat Flight. So let's move on from the combat effectiveness of flight.

Comparing Combat Effectiveness of flight to SS as a benefit/drawback, fine. But thats not the purpose. The purpose is travel. Other uses are an addition, not definition.

It would be nice if the Acc penalty was gone, but it would also be nice if travel powers didn't have pre reqs.

Travel is about getting from point A to point B. You want to factor in safety? SS, SJ and TP all get you there just as safe. And if you get tagged, with all 3 of those you are gone before getting hit (again). With Flight, you can be safe, unless sniped, and take twice as long(at least) to get to your destination. How safe? Depends how long you want to take. SS, SJ and TP can all be just as safe by going around the obstacles (enemies) as Flight is by going above them, and they will still be faster. Thing is, they don't HAVE to go around. They can go THROUGH and be just as safe as Flight, with on rare occasions, getting hit once before being gone.

For those that want to argue Shadow Shard. Guess what. Flight is so slow, that SS and SJ can move through its obstacles before Flight gets where it wants to be, and still arive well before the flier. Annoying? Yes, but so is flying all the way to your destination. But in addition to that, most people just wait for the TP'er to get there and recall everyone anyway.

Vert movement in general? There are FEW instances where SS has trouble getting where it needs to be, without any vert power at all. There are ramps and hills everywhere except the Shard, which has gysers anyway. TV and Faultline are the biggest problem zones. Discounting the fact that once you know where to go to get certain places you can be there in a flash, yes, for new speeders its a major hassle. In Fault, most just don't drop into the giant holes.
  9. This whole thing is bull. Everytime flight speed comes up, people point out 10 good reasons flight is bad, and one third that many people come in and say, "but its the safest" despite it having been said in almost EVERY post regarding upping the flight speed cap or flight speed in general, like in this case, that SS is just as safe, if not SAFER than flight, unless you start every trip going as high as you can go, and hitting autopilot, which makes it take even longer. With SS you are barely there long enough to catch aggro, not to mention the nice stealth bump you get, and if you get aggro, your gone before you feel the first hit, which also happens to be the last. And lets not forget indoor missions. My bit to add is this: try using hover/fly in a low cieling room/hallway and tell me its safer than SS, granted not travel, but where other powers give you some help(yeah, TP too, since you can port anywhere you can see regardless of obstacles), flight is a hinderance.

At this point a Dev/Mod/member of the Cryptic team, usually Geko or States, comes in and says "safer," "vertical movement," and on occasion "if fly was faster why take SS?"

Basically? For the same reason people take flight now. Because its cool. And thats IN ADDITION to:

    1. Stealth component
    2. Combat application
    3. Better escape than flight (Yes it is, I know very few blasters that rely on flight to escape, including myself.)
    4. Concept
    and the BIG ONE...
    5. Hasten as prequisite

This is the ONE thing that really bugs me, above all else, that I would have a problem with the Devs over. Sure, the Khelds sucking bothered me, but flight speed just flat out pisses me off and makes me bitter. I had flight in my build. I respeced it out and 6 slotted hover, which I rarely use in combat, unless with a proper/really bad team and "Death from above" tactics are required. If not I use SS.

And in 3 or so pages States will come to the thread and post his usual "Flight speed is not, and will never change," flamewar begins and thread is locked.

But hey, at least that hover bug will get fixed.

    Edit:
Also, I dont feel the need to point out, but I'm going to anyway, what others have said before regarding "investing in 4 other powers" to get to SS speeds.

First off, the point is having no travel power can be faster/safer* than flight. Well, ignoring what others feel/believe/weep gently to themselves over/say about SS being safer, now you have another option which fits most speeders concepts pretty well, and is basically SS and inherently safer*.

    *Safer? Can't be!?
    ||
    \/
Second, the "investment" isn't in travel. Its in safety. Those powers are for damage mitigation/avoidance (whatever YOU want to call it) for combat. We do a lot of that fighting thin in CoH don't we? These powers just HAPPEN to make you move FASTER THAN FLIGHT by SHEER COINCIDENCE as a SIDE EFFECT and are WORKING AS INTENDED, unless this was a major oversight in developement and the past few months of live since Elude was changed.

    "1.21 Jiggawatts?!"

    [/ QUOTE ]

OMG! You hit my #1 pet peeve of what is a truley GREAT movie!

It's not a "Jiggawatt" like they say in the movie... it's a "Gigawatt" (one billion watts). Just like you're hard drive has "Gigabytes" (one billion bytes... sorta. It's actually 1073741824 bytes, but now we're getting into 8-bit counting and that's a different subject )

... I'm not sure what made me do that, but I do feel better now!

(also extra ironic that I just finished the Ubelman arch just last night)

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Sigh...

At the time the movie was written, "gigawatt" was pronounced "jigawatt" in some regions. The writers attended some sort of science convention in which a presenter pronounced it jigawatt, which was acceptable. The writers, not being well versed in science, typed it out as "jigawatt" in the script, which Chris Loyd then read. It was misspelled, but technically, not mispronounced.

It's so sad that I know that. I'm a fountain of useless knowledge.
