Fortunately, Willpower is a set that does just fine on SOs or common IOs.
Thanks for the build information and practical application tips.

As far as money is concerned, I now have about 15 hours logged in time on this character (side not: is there an easy way to check this in game?) Most of this time has been spent sitting AFK reading forums. The rest was spent running contact missions and Police Band missions to reach level 6. I had 2.7M Inf a few minutes ago, and made some purchases that should turn that into 15M by the end of the day. I'm currently level 6 on what amounts to an empty account. 500M for a moderately priced IO build seems perfectly attainable without much effort.

    A thank you

I just want to write a little note of Thanks!! to all the folks here on the Market Forum, and especially Fury Flechette.

Everyone, the tips and explanations here are top notch. You guys couldn't be making it any easier for anyone with half a brain and less motivation to make as much money as they want.

Fury, your 1 billion in 7 days thread inspired me to really apply myself to this. I started brand new yesterday. Having not played in years, I rolled up a brand new character and set about wondering how I was going to be able to afford decent enhancements at 22. Then I read your thread. Now I'm 10 hours of playtime in, most of it spent /afk reading forums, and have nearly 2 million influence at level 6. If I had been smarter and not made some poorly researched purchases, I'd have twice that. Before I even made this character I went through and deleted all my old characters on every server, because I wanted to really experience it fresh. So this is with no seed money whatsoever.

So, my hat's off to you, marketeers. You're making this game a better place.
  3. Thanks for the replies. I've already started playing the character, but I have a number of Veteran freespecs I can use. For now I'm not going to mess around with it. I want to gain some levels, try out some powers in-game instead of on-paper, and figure out what I like. Most of my hours have been spent messing with Wentworth's. It's just amazing.

"Back in the day," funding your first set of SO's was a major undertaking, and often meant A) not buying any TOs B) only buying Level 20 DO's at 17 and C) leaving some slots with DOs until 30. Now, I have close to 1 million influence on a level 4 *boggle*.

I'm going to massage the build some. If Perma-Hasten is as expensive as you say, I can drop the Speed line entirely and either rely on temporary travel powers or go for something RP (can Scrappers make Hover work in-combat? need to look at numbers). I'll be fitting in Build Up, skipping Charged Brawl, rethinking Clap, and probably fit in Induction or Ladder.

I'll probably rethink my Common IO plan as well. With as easy as it is to make gobs of Inf, I don't see any real obstacles between me and a midpriced set build or fraken build. Most likely I'm going to examine the buy-in costs to jack up my Defense as much as possible. If nothing else I can use higher level common IOs to save slots. I'll especially have to do more research on these merits you mentioned.

I'm also going to rethink my Ancillary Pool. None of them really fit that well thematically. I suppose Fireball would add extra AoE punch more effectively than Energy Torrent, but I'd rather use Energy Torrent on this character. Decisions...
  4. Hey folks,

I've tried to do some searching on Electric Melee and Willpower, but it seems everyone is putting up guides and questions on the Shield FOTM. Shield just doesn't fit the character, and I've read it will be nerfed soon. I've also read that without set IOs, Regeneration and Willpower were better all-around secondaries than Shield at this time.

The last time I spent any serious time learning the system was back when Instant Healing was a toggle. From what I've read, current Willpower plays like old Regeneration. I loved my DM/Regen back in the day, and I'm interested in something that will have a similar "feel" to it. It was great fun to have a health bar that either never moved, or emptied so fast I could barely keep track.

I have no experience with the Invention system, no money for quality IOs, and am starting on an effectively fresh account with no higher level characters to siphon Inf from. My plan is to limp along on drops until I hit 22, and slot everything with l25 Common IOs until I'm in my 40s. Please correct me if this concept is flawed.

I don't have access to Ninja Run. The webpage says I have 30 months Veterans Rewards, but I don't seem to have the Veterans powers on any character. I do have a decent jet pack for 30 days, so early vertical movement won't be an issue.

    Questions:
    1) Is perma-Hasten possible without expensive IOs? I know you can't do it with Commons. Is it worth the investment to have perma-Hasten

    2) Will Quick Recovery handle all my Endurance needs, or should I shoot for Stamina and/or Physical Perfection?

    3) Is 1 Accuracy 3 Damage 2 Recharge still considered the "best" generic slotting to achieve maximum DPS in your attacks?

    4) Are Jacobs Ladder, Build Up, Confront, and Chain Induction as skip-able as the Brute forum seems to imply?

    5) How available are non-pool vertical movement options at level 50? I remember the pain of trying to navigate with only Super Speed as a travel power.

Current build plan from latest Mids, based mostly on old knowledge and what I've picked up from a day of reading (pretend the IOs are Level 25, not sure how to set them that way):Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.707

Id like to beable to go play in the hazard zones before they were hazard zones doing missions there and so forth.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That'd be pretty awesome... Faultline pre-Faultline....

This would be really awesome. The story arc where Faultline BECOMES faultline, and you are in the middle of it trying to evacuate the civilians?!

    * There are numerous story arc/mission-related badges that I'm missing. I've received 4 so far and I've certainly completed a lot more than four of the requisite missions/arcs. I don't know exactly which ones are missing, but I'm certain there are several missing.

    [/ QUOTE ]

FYI: There are NO story arc badges. None. Never were. Never will be. You have Souvenirs for that.

Completing a Badge-giving mission post-Expansion 2: Mission badges are awarded upon Mission Complete to every member on the team.

Completing a Badge-giving mission pre-Expansion 2: We look at your character and see if they have done a mission that gives a badge. If the answer is yes, assign the badge upon log in.

If you did not get a badge, then your character never did the mission.

We investigated several characters who claimed to have done badge-missions yet didn't recieve the badges retroactively. Upon examination, all of them had never done said badge-missions, usually because they outlevelled their contact before that mission was issued.

We ARE working on a system that will allow you to go back and do content you missed, but for the meantime you can Exemplar to a character that has a badge-giving mission and help them complete it. You will both get the badge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This also means that it only counts if you YOUR character did YOUR mission. If you and a friend did this mission previously from your friends contact, only he will have the badge. Note that going forward badges will be granted to anyone on the team for the mission.

I petitioned the GM team on task force badges as I have yet to recieve any of my three and was informed today that it will be 2 or 3 days before all of the task for badges should be finished, due to the stability issues and the sheer bulk of petitions they are a bit pressed for time. So have patience, send a question petition and check your e-mail, you are more likely to have questions answered in e-mail and only in game help come from an in game GM.

You don't get a badge for killing babbage on the TF? well then its impossible as the GMs said he only spawns for the TF which i know isn't the fact he belongs in Boomtown as well.

his spawn must be broken unless someone has killed him recently. It would be nice to get a confirmation of a recent kill.

I took him down in Skyway City AND recieved the badge from it last night if this is what you mean. Also bagged Kracken and Adamastor, all in about an hour... amazing how easy monster hunting is at 5am ET
  8. Conceptually, I understand where all of you are coming from, the worries about decreased fun factor and such. However, in execution, this is going to expan your options and fun factor!

Statesman is a BIG proponent of risk vs. reward. If an increase in mod difficulty goes live, then you damn well better bet that xp reward will be increased to compensate. Average leveling through the high end of the game is probably at about the speed intended. The uber-power builds and players can burn through faster than the casual, organic, or story-driven characters and players, but that is the case in any mmorpg.

What all this means, in essence, is your missions will be worthwhile, street sweeping will not be your only option, and the solo vs. group question will be answered because a full group CAN handle large groups of oranges and reds while soloist or people in small teams will be having a grand old time facing down whites and yellows in the streets and missions.

Statesman said it himself. Look at the level of mobs and spawn numbers you face in your average door mission. This is about what you should be fighting at your level in whatever size group you have for the average player. This means that whites are the staple for the soloist, need some boosts to their challenge and reward to make them worth hunting, and missions become even more attractive for the pure xp of it.

Bottom line, no matter what is done I doubt it will make a HUGE difference except in the color of mobs we hunt, and in the usefullness of groups, missions, etc. If a change is not going to hurt you in any way and will offer you many more options for what you can do with your time while still giving accetpable rewards and challenge, how is it a bad thing?

Restrained, Entangled and Imprisoned are related to being held/immobilized/mezzed in some fashion yourself, not holding others. My tank got all three it one shot by being mezzed and then waking up. Can't give more details, sorry.

    [/ QUOTE ]

These are based on total time spent in these states. I believe certain states count more than others, as putting on Rest for three hours straight was not enough to get me the third badge, but on a different copy of my character 3 Holds from a madness mage at level 11 got me to the second badge.
  10. d'oh. Was AFK resting for about an hour and a half. Came back, had nothing, immediately logged to play on Virtue >.<

    Retesting then ^.^
  11. Spent a long time resting, got no badge, no pre-badge progress bar, nothing. Anyone with different results?

Also, supposition on History badges: You need to find either A) all plaqus in a certain zone, or B) all plaques on a certain subject.

For example, with option A you find all the plaques in Atlas Park to get a badge.

With option B you find all the plaques relating to the heroes of the Rikti war, meaning the plaque at each and every giant statue in the game, to get a badge.

these seem the most likely, though I'm amazed that this long into the game we have found so few plaques...
