From reading various posts in the forum, I think we can all agree that there is an inherent stability issue with the game which needs to be urgently addressed, and that the Development Team are trying their best to address the issue.
It is also obvious that the Development Team needs player input to resolve the issue, but, there is a player reluctance (me included) to provide such information.
To simplify that, the Development Team NEED our help in solving / tracing the problem, and in return, arent offering much in way of a reward to the players for their time and effort in providing them with the information they require.
To further simplify that, I will use my situation as an example.
I like to play COH, I DONT like to spend my time having to continuously log-in following a crash, and I DONT like to waste my time sending information to NCSoft following a crash my priority is to get back in-game and help my team who may have been attempting a Master of at the time I crashed and my priorities are to get back and help my team, not NCSoft (sorry!).
It is blatantly obvious in my case that there is a conflict of interest between what I want and what NCSoft would like.
Why do I feel my interests are more important? If I crashed during a battle with an AV, and I was one of the damage dealers, my team would be disadvantaged, similarly, if the teams Tank crashed, we would be having serious problems what in this situation would be more important? The team, or information collection for NCSoft? I know what my reply would be to the tank if he re-entered 5 minutes later and said sorry I was so long, I was sending a crash report to NCSoft Id probably be perma-banned for what I would say to the tank!
So I have a suggestion that may be suitable to both sides, and it involves NCSoft bowing to something that will probably cause gasps at all levels!
What is the hardest badge in the game to get? YES, the BUG HUNTER badge!!!!
Maybe if NCSoft would consider awarding players this badge in return for completing say 5 bug reports that appear when a the game would have crashed, do you wish to continue? screen appears, maybe players would start to form teams specifically aimed at identifying the crash issues, and get a reward for their effort?
Similarly, sending in these other reports that they require could count to the reward?
Maybe Im mad in suggesting such an idea, but, what other options are there to what in my opinion, is a serious and game breaking bug?
I hope to see loads of replies. -
My crashes seem to fall into 3 categories at the moment, and can happen sporadically, or regularly.
Crash type 1
Irrespective of the reason, a pop up screen will appear advising me that the game "would have crashed" and giving me the option to exit, contiue and to send details of what I was doing at the time.
This type of crash will also usually make itself known through "sound looping".
Sadly, I do not give more information in the pop up screen because typing "I was doing an ITF, or I was trying to pawn an AV" wont particulary help the dev team - Im also pretty peed off when it happens and any comments I make would probably result in me being barred from the game!
Crash type 2
BOOM, and it was gone - no warning, no pop up screens - usuall a grey screen and total closure of the program.
This usually happens when rezoning after pressing the "exit" button at the end of a BAF when zoning back to Pocket D.
I also get this regularly and in EXACTLY THE SAME PLACE when jumping through the Peregrine Island map from the entry point through to portal court.
Crash type 3
The well loved mapserver disco - program siezes and I have no option but to "X" out and log back in again.
Some of these crashes occasionally refer to a "corrupt pigg file" which I find amusing, since I didnt corrupt it, I no longer have vidiot maps overlays etc as I thought that maybe VMaps was causing the problem and removed the program and clean installed COH again. As to why a pigg file should corrupt must be COH program driven.
Irrespective of the type of crash, I am reluctant to load further programs to help send data to NCSoft. Sadly I did this for Ghost Raptor a couple of years back when IP issues were a problem and I was invited to provide input to help solve the problem, and, as is always the way with reporting bugs etc, the feedback from NCSoft is zero. Ghost Raptor promised me then a solution to my particular problem and didnt even have the common courteousy to get back to me. I am therefore not prepared to waste more time providing such information for no reply, when I could be using the time providing such information more constructively in shouting at my monitor, and logging back in on the hope that I reenter before the BAF is finished and at least getting some of the merits I have missed.
Sorry I cant/wont be of more help, but at least you know what kind of crashes I get, and why I wont provide you with more information. Until NCSoft changes how bug reporting , resolution and keeping those informed changes, I will pay my subscription and let you guys figure it out.
Sorry! -
Sorry about the big title!
I've just upgraded from an NVIDEA GeForce 9600GT to the GTX580.
Years back there used to be a forum entry on the settings to use via the Nvidea Control Panel, and the settings ingame, but I can no longer find it.
I'd like to know if someone can either
1) redirect me to the forum post which advised which settings to use in-game, and in the Nvidea Control Panel,
or
2) advise me of the settings to use to get optimum Ultra Graphics mode to really WOW me in-game!
Considering I have bought a new high end graphics card, I'd now like to know what the settings should be so that I get the best visual experience without suffering any performance loss.
At present, I have set all ultra settings to maximum, with excellent quality and no noticeable slowdown, however I do occasionally get a "black screen" blink - almost as if the gfx are refreshing.
For further information, I am usung a SAMSUNG SyncMaster BX2450 LED monitor, and running a quad core Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PC at Q8300 2.5GhZ
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

LOL.
The guys are concientios, in Austria, everything stops at 13:00 on Fridays - except the traffic jams coz they all head home early and sit in their cars till 14:30
The clever ones go down the pub. -
Quote:Well don't take it outta context lol !That's the kind of statement that's dangerous to take out of context...
Just to clear any confusion, I meant as in doing a Behavioural Adjustment Facility Task Force with the rest of the on-line community, or a Lambda, but, it seems "the on-line community" is a contradiction of terms, unless of course you include those in the forums with smutty minds!
Cant these devs just go down the pub and let us play uninterrupted? -
Lovely - stick kids in front of tv with missus and bung a blue-ray disc in, sneak upstairs to do some baffing, and..........
I think I will go curl up in the corner and sob. -
Quote:You've hit the nail on the head there Flower!Lets hope once they get i20 stable they hold off a bit on i20.5 and i21. People want the new trials but I think a new round of bugs that go with them will not go over well until things have cooled off a bit
.
I for one would be for a moritorium on new releases until ALL current bugs are ironed out, and the Devs "to do list" of old bugs is cleared as well. Followed of course by a prolonged test server try out of new releases. Then of course, new bugs wouldn't have such an effect as they have recently.
Maybe they could pre-empt future "shellackings" (quote:sic Barack Obama) by including the following text in new subscription game downloads "Comes with bugs, and a free lifetime supply of lag and mapserver disco's!"
But then again, its not my reputation that is going to suffer - Im a grumpy old git all of the time ;-) -
It would be nice if things got back to normal before the next DIVE DIVE DIVE occured.
These things are happening in 2 or 3 week cycles at present, and our compensation last time - a Halloween Event!
And I'm SURE I recently saw a thread/statement in the old login style screen which stated "RESOLVED - mapserver problem has been identified" etc. And IS it resolved? Nah.
Anyway, lets hope the new weekly Strike Target works as intended. -
Sounds cool, but it doesnt really resolve the problem.
The Devs reputation is in the cellar, NCSofts "we apologise for any inconvenience caused / thank you for your patience" shows how much they care.
As suggested in an earlier post by broomhilda, maybe some of the Devs/Quality team should listen in to the chat channels.
I've tried playing in Pretoria (for which I pre-paid before it was issued), and cant even go 5 minutes without hard crashing on a constant basis.
Something has gone horribly wrong and its time to repair the damage both program-wise, and more importantly, customer (player) - wise.
Believe me, I prefer to play the game, not spend most of my time slagging the player experience, devs and powers to be off.
Finger out NCSoft - please! -
Not particularly impressed by this - spent a whole evening doing parts 1 & 2 because NOTW didnt drop after part 1, and NOW we're told its an error, and regardless of whether we can provide chat log file evidence that we did both parts, we WONT be awarded the NOTW?
Come on guys, its a bit like being told to dig a hole, then being told to fill it in again straight after, without getting paid for it.
And the annoying thing is that a petition/request for a GM wasnt considered because we know they wouldnt be able to join an ongoing WST.
Really really beginning to have doubts about continuing my subscription considering the "oops factor" this game comes with - shame after 5 years of play. -
I hope the powers to be at NCSoft begin to take notice of these comments.
2 Long shut-outs in the space of a week, little or no information as to why it is necessary, and, always during EU prime time.
Ive been playing this game for 5 years and am slowly growing more annoyed at the way we are treated, and more so at the gradual deteriation of the games performance.
If COH was a car, I would have taken it back to the dealer by now and demanded my money back - unsuitable for the use for which it was sold! I pay a subscription to play the game without continual crashes, updates and patches that have to be further updated and patched, and stupid "fun" compensation.
Come on you guys - concentrate on a little Quality of Service, and get this game back to the way it used to play, and stop blaming every problem we encounter on our connection, ISP, or our computer setups - its pretty evident from the size of the program in relation to what it was a couple of years back that its becoming difficult to introduce new features without the probability of something backfiring, and, if NCSoft can make such a large donation to a worthy cause (as they did recently), its pretty apparent there is enough money in the company to dedicate to improving your image with your paying customers, and to getting developemant out of the gutter where it currently stands imho.
Sorry to gripe and slag people off, but this really isn't the game I used to play, and after 5 years of play, Im getting to the point where I wonder if my monthly sub could be invested better elsewhere. -

COZZIE CONTEST STARTING IN 5 MINS
First and only prize 1 Billion inf.
Damn - cancelled coz server is broke.
muahahahaha -
-
But keep all the toons I made since issue 7 please!!
-
Well, thats it for me folks - gonna watch DHH with the missus (eek).
My suggestion, roll the whole bloody thing back to issue 7.
Before tarted up pocket D, before ww's, before OI's, before Ultra mode, before timed Dreck, before lag issues.
Hey those were the days.
Finished grumping now. -
Quote:Confucious say " If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"The last time EU server status indication was accurate was when Cimerorans were real and Caesar was having the time of his life.
Well the server status page is broke - please fix it devs, AFTER you've fixed this other small problem you have on ya hands of course.
Thankies -
Oh, and btw - the server status link on the NCSoft launcher screen shows union as green (says = up), which it isn't.
Does a green dot really mean it's sick?
And the missus is watching Desperate Hollywood Housewives so she doesn't want to converse. -
Bah this isn't good.
If I can't play COH, it means I'll have to go downstairs and converse with the missus. -
Hi
What thoughts do you have on changes to the various builds on the back of issue 19?
I have used this build for pve, and pvp stalker and am now completing the 3rd build with the purple sets, and notice that since some powers are now inherant, other previously untaken powers could come into play - any suggestions/ideas on what you would change.
Which incarnates would you use, etc?
Excellent build which I absolutely love, even when some blasters leave the team because they cant compete!! -
Damn.
I forgot to clear out my WW stuff on all 12 toons - thats it im off down the pub - cya there -
HAHAHA
Ok, the beers are on me but by the time you get to Austria where I live, the pubs will all be closed.
At least no one has started demanding a double exp weekend as compensation for lost play time yet - (starts to countdown from 10 to 1)
