Current status of my arcs:
The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society - Broken due to the patch and will stay that way till the patch is fixed.
A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed! - Temporary change to the contact name from "Statesman" to "Marcus Cole" has it working again.
The Ms. Manners Task Force - Broken until the patch is fixed.
A Very Special Episode - OK
Old Dog, New Trick - OK
Death to Disco! - Still boogieing
Trademark Infringement - Ironically, there was only an issue with one character which I have removed for now. My oldest arc seems somehow timely.
In Poor Taste - OK
I've not played through all of the working ones, so please let me know if you find something not showing up as an error.
WN -
Thank you for letting us know you guys are working on this. I feel much better knowing it is seen as a problem that needs to be addressed.
WN -
I directed a tweet at Positron in the hopes he will look at the issue or pass it on to someone that will or at least let us know this is not working as intended.
- 2010 Player's Choice Best Heroic arc
- 316 plays still 5 stars
- Numerous 5 star reviews on the boards
- Over a dozen recommendations for Dev's Choice
- An awesome promotional video made about it
- Listed in PW's great Contact Tree thread
RIP "The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society"
WN -
Words not usable:
Paragon
Magnetic (or any variation there of)
Blitzkrieg
Names of enemy groups can no longer be used. For example my custom character "Blitzkrieg" is invalid not just because of his name, but also because he is in the group "5th Column".
This is insane and needs to be fixed asap.
WN -
This arc no longer works due to Statesman being the contact for it.
Update: I was able to get the arc to work by changing the contact's name to "Marcus Cole". I hate it, but at least the arc is working.
WN -
This arc is no longer playable due to the use of the word "Paragon" and my custom group of WW2 "5th Column" clones. Blitzkrieg is also "invalid"
WN -
Quote:That explains why "The Golden Age Secret of the Paragon Society" is no longer a playable arc. I'm guessing "A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!" is dead due to the use of Statesman and "The Ms. Manners TF" died because of the custom Fusionette.I'm with you Eva. Apparently a new list of words went in with the last patch. "Aragon" seems to be one of them, so everything with "Paragon" in the title is now flagged unusable. Also "spider". "Sentry" "Emerald" ....a lot more. Most of my character groups (previously existing) have been flagged unusable. Basically, really pissed off right now.

You have an interesting mind Miss Blue.....loved it.

For this month I have to submit:
"A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed!" #375018 @Wrong Number
WN -
I had to wait on the phone for 15 minutes, but I was able to get them to reset everything.
WN -
I've not been logging in much, but do from time to time to check on my arcs and respond to feedback. I always like checking page 3 and 4 of the MA arc listings to see what new stuff is up and coming since that's the first page or so after the DC, Guest, HoF arcs. My take on some of these soon to be classics:
Shadoz Farm 2 (Here's hoping the sequel is as good as the original.)
Up in Flames (A Cheech and Chong inspired arc?)
Thee Fire and Thee Flame (Who does not love an historical drama?)
Sam he he (My bet: this one is chock full of laughs)
FRONTLOAD (Maybe a Dirty Harry type cop film?)
BM? (Perhaps a mystery that will keeping you guessing till the end?)
Auri's Improved Ambush Farm (An update on the classic arc?)
Fire Farm Easy XP (The riveting tale of the creation of Windows XP?)
Electromadness (I'm thinking a musical based on kids show "The Electric Factory")
Fire Ambush Farm (Maybe a man's version of "Eat, Pray, Love"?)
Looking forward to playing all of these!

I'm trying to pay for my son's account and can't get in because of the new security stuff. The answer is to send them all this info like the serial number on the box and the original activation code. Well almost 7 years later, guess what? I don't have it. Why am I wasting my time with this additional security foolishness? Who exactly is it for and do they realize they are going to be loosing customers because of it?

March 2011 update.
Like I said I recorded the actual info on March 1st. I just didn't post it since I didn't think anyone cared anymore, but since you do:
As of March 1st, arcs with 100 or more plays, 5 stars or higher and not HoF or DC:
Arcs Published Pre-15 (6/29/2009) - 8
Arcs Published Post I-15 - 6
Total Number of arcs out of 70,676 arcs - 14
Put another way: .00198% of the arcs in the system have more than 100 plays while still maintaining a 5 star rating.
Percentage of current HoF Arcs Published in 4/09 - 86%.
History
May - 12 (11/1)
June - 14 (11/3)
July - 14 (11/3)
August - 11 (8/3)
September - 11 (7/4)
October - 10 (8/2)
November - 13 (10/3)
December - 10 (7/3)
January - 7 (3/4)
February - 8 (4/4)
March - 14 (8/6)

Quote:While I agree that is a short sighted design flaw, equally short sighted is the lack of at least monthly new DCs and a reevaluation of HoF. This oversight is absolutely having a negative effect on MA authors and players.HoF/DC arcs are supposed to be representative of the best AE has to offer, but ironically this status makes them more likely to be broken permanently. That is dumb.
I still get people asking me for sequels to my arcs or just new arcs, but even though I had started work on another "The Golden Age Secret to the Paragon Society" arc (you get to fight along side the original members through the decades) I stopped work on it since I know I'm never going to be able to publish it.
Despite being a very visible long time promoter/supporter of all things MA, despite the arc being listed over a dozen times in all three the "Suggestions for DC" thread, despite it winning Best Heroic Arc of 2010. despite the arc being rated at 5 stars since the day it was published, now with over 300 plays, plus many extremely positive reviews on the forums, not a single developer has taken the less than an hour it would take to play it. To me, this is a clear message that MA, like bases and to a lesser extent pvp is in the "very low priority" bin for the devs. It's sad and I wish it was not the case, but it seems pretty clear to be the case. Color me totally disappointed.
I know that the issues with HoF not being addressed and the lack of new DCs can be seen as my personal frustration. However the fact that there is currently a farm in HoF and page 4 is almost 50% arcs with names with "farm and PL" in them can not be dismissed as easily and they are another indicator of total lack of caring by the powers that be.

Quote:Who exactly is advocating "handing out 5 star ratings like candy" Not me that's for sure. All I'm pointing out is the limitations of the current rating system and that people are deluding themselves if they think that the ratings actually mean what they say they do (i.e. 4 stars = Excellent). As I have said from the get go, rate anyway you want, just don't kid yourself into thinking that the current broken system is reflecting the rating as you may want it to do....but refusing to hand out five-star ratings like candy is simply not the problem.
WN -
Quote:Stop right there and let me amend my final state to read:I'm afraid I don't agree with this. Granted that each person can use their rating to vote however they want, in my opinion, the purpose of rating an arc is to rate the quality of that arc.
What you think/want/feel or your opinion of how it should work does not impact how the system actually processes the ratings.
Quote:To feed false information into the database (whether 5-starring arcs that don't deserve it, 1-starring arcs that don't deserve it, or even refusing to rate arcs that you think are low quality) in an attempt to game the system essentially negates this purpose and further contributes to the general sense that the ratings system is meaningless.
Quote:The MA Super Team even had a game targeting these for awhile, "Make It or Break It". I choose not to contribute to exacerbating this problem.
Quote:While this statement is certainly true, the intent of the rating system is not to get a story arc additional plays. The intent of rating is to communicate each player's opinion of that arc's relative merit.
What you think, want, feel or your opinion of how ratings should work or how the devs intended the system to work does not impact how the system actually processes the ratings.
WN -
It's been gone over a million times and I'm surprised that some people still can't see it.
The rating system is BROKEN.
No one is saying that the devs did not intend for all the ratings to be used and have actual meanings.
No one is saying that the all ratings in the ratings system should not have real meaning.
No one is saying anyone has to rate one way or another.
However be aware that the reality is that rating an arc less than 5 stars with the current system has the effect of lowering it's chance of being played. People can delude themselves into thinking that because the devs put the word "Excellent" next to the 4 star rate that's what it means, but that is just not the reality of how it works in this broken system.
No matter what you feel/want/think how the rating system should be/work, it in reality is stuck in the current broken state. In ACTUALLY rating an arc 5 stars means that it has a chance at being seen and played by others. Rating less, even a 4, means varying degrees of diminishing the chance of the arc being played. What you think/want/feel does not impact how the system actually processes the ratings.

I don't know of any April Fool's arcs off hand, but might I suggest:
"A Hero in Need...is a Friend Indeed! 2010" Arc ID: 375018
as an arc that might be worth a play because of the baddie involved.
WN -
I'm still subscribed to the game and pop on from time to time just to say "hi", but for the most part I don't play.
As for the HoF data, I did actually record it, but decided that it's clear that MA is an extremely low priority for the devs if they care at all. So, I figured the data is pretty pointless. It's as pointless as creating THREE "Recommendations for DC" threads stretching all the way back to when MA started and never playing arcs from them or handing out DCs.
WN -
I happened to log on today and see that we have a new HoF arc. Some fire resist 1 mission farm. I hope someday I make something worthy of HoF like that great arc. Unmotivated, you better believe it.
WN -
Thanks for the detailed review! You bring up a few points for me to think about should I revise the arc.
I'm not thrilled with the last map either and it is a replacement map after the original no longer worked after an MA update. There are very limited choices that allow the number of things I need in that mission and unfortunately none of them are very linear.
As for Sherman not being blond, you are not the first to mention it. The blond hair/blue eyed thing is more of a Hollywood trope from what I can tell. While blond/eye was very desirable, it was not the only "acceptable" appearance. Truth be told though blond just looked silly on Sherman.
Again, thanks for the review.

Quote:I think that's because it takes minimal effort more than anything else.Seems that adding in newly created stuff to the AE system (such as the Kinetic Melee set for customs) always lags behind it's first introduction in the rest of the game. I think talk of the devs having abandoned AE is all a bit premature. So far. We'll see.

Quote:What he said. MA and the people were the only things that kept me hooked. I was pretty much ready to bail when MA revitalized the game for me. Now, with no arc slots, no way to get more and the clear message that MA is not a priority to the devs, my game time is minutes a week if that. As it stands now with no new content of interest to me and almost a year with no arc slots, I have no plans to renew my subscription when it comes due in a couple of months.I have pretty much zero chance of ever getting any more than the 8 arc slots I already have nor do I have any new stories that I consider worth the time to retire an existing arc for so I haven't written anything new in a year.
I don't care much for incarnates either, except for occasional TFs with old friends I'm finding little reason to keep my account active these days.

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Congrats Rose!

Wait, CoX is still running? (I can't help myself sometimes).
