  1. The term may be overused but there are definite cases where it's a valid complaint. A couple of litmus tests that I've heard over the years are if female characters are drawn with breasts larger than their heads or if the artist uses porn magazines as references for when he's drawing women.

Actually you will see fat or plain looking heroes but they'll either be comic relief (Spider-Kid, Frog-Man), have a secret identity in which they're a model (Big Bertha), or be given a perfect body before going insane, turning evil, and being killed in battle (Box).

I know he does those straight to DVD Jesse Stone movies, but I was a bit dissapointed we never saw more of him after Magnum. He did Mr. Baseball, 3 men and a baby and after that... Just straight to video stuff.

Anyway, I heard there was one in development with Matt Mcougnahey as magnum but it got scrubbed. Which is fine I think he'd be horrible in that role.

[explaining why he refused a cameo in the film adaptation Magnum P.I. (2011) of his TV series "Magnum, P.I." (1980)] I tell you what worries me -- because I love "Magnum" and we have loyal fans -- is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it's OK. And I will not do that.
Right now Selleck is starring in Blue Bloods which is the top rated show on Friday nights, at least as of the last ratings I could find.

Also I don't know about others, but I thought Starsky and Hutch was pretty respectful of the original show, maybe that cuz I didn't know the original show all that well but still, I don't think they all make fun of the originals.
This would be the Starsky & Hutch movie that did stuff like showing Huggy Bear trying, and failing, to walk down the street wearing platform shoes with aquariums in them? I'm sure there have been at least one or two others but off the top of my head S.W.A.T. is about the only remake that I can think of that didn't laugh at the show it was based on.

I love the action scenes in Drive, I'm a big Mark Dacascos fan, but the rest of the movie was pretty bad.

There's been one in development. Tom Selleck has said that if they make one he won't do a cameo in it because remakes are almost never respectful of the original property and he's not interested in appearing in something that makes fun of the original show.
  6. Let's not forget that when introduced Wonder Woman served as the JSA's secretary and a lot of her adventures had her being captured and chained up by the villains so that Steve Trevor could come to her rescue.

Then there were the likes of Phantom Lady, Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, Torchy, and similar characters who used sex appeal to sell comics to adolescent males. Don't forget that the 40s and 50s were the peak of comic book Good Girl Art.

If you're not seeing a lot of sexism in Golden Age comics it may be because you're reading books that were reprinted because they were considered the cream of the crop and a lack of sexism may well have been one of the criteria for them being reprinted.

My personal experience with female comic book fans is that they tend to follow books about male characters because while they like the genre, there is often a dearth of female characters that they like. Just because they're female doesn't mean they only read books about female characters.

With movies like The Brave One and Harry Brown they've already pretty much remade Death Wish.

You don't want to see Robbie do kung fu?

    Nice seeing Jane Badler.
  11. I'm surprised we haven't seen a Gilligan's Island movie yet, probably starring Will Ferrel as Gilligan.

I could actually go for a Logan's Run movie that stuck more closely to the book. Especially if they cast it with actors who were the same age as the characters in the book.

A live action Jonny Quest wouldn't surprise me.
  12. So when the robots take over the world they will be armed with beer cannons.
  13. As far as I know it's an original story written by Zack Snyder. And Michael Bay wishes he was Snyder.

Yes, the trailer focuses on action sequences. So did the trailer for Watchmen and yet Watchmen was more than just a continuous string of explosions. Perhaps you were hoping that the trailer could condense the entire plot of the movie down into 2 minutes so that you don't have to go see it?

Funny that you should complain that the trailer is nothing but action and then slam Snyder for casting a bunch of pretty faces that can't act. How can you tell how good their acting is from what little we see in the trailer? Michael Bay has a track record of casting A-list actors who get by on their looks and charisma but Snyder tends to cast B-list actors who may not be as charismatic but who are good actors. I've seen Emily Browning, Carla Gugino, Jon Hamm, and Scott Glenn in other things. I'm certainly willing to give them and Snyder the benefit of the doubt until I see the movie.

Does Snyder use a lot of slow motion? Sure. A lot of directors do. At least with Snyder it tends to be done in an artistic fashion.

Now you say that Snyder's movies are better because he's got better material to work with. Have you considered that that's by choice? Director's pick what they want to work with. Clearly Snyder has higher standards than Bay does. That speaks in his favor.

Not Sue. She eventually ends up in dominatrix gear.
  16. Sounds to me like they're trying to create a show to cash in on the superhero craze without having to have much of a special effects budget.
  17. In other words, they want to make some quick cash so they'll hype the event and hope that the non-comic book buying crowd that doesn't know any better will go into a frenzy and buy the book hoping to make a big score by buying something that will instantly be worth a ton of money when, in fact, it probably won't even be worth the cover price.

You didn't hear? Roger Rabbit did it with the Lassiter on the Death Star.
  19. My favorite Star Trek episode was the one where the Serenity came out of hyperspace in Gamilon's atmosphere, launched Hammerhead fighters, and then Admiral Ackbar threaded the needle back into space while shouting, "Yippie-kay-yay motherf-!"
  20. I would close it with them doing whatever it is their doing when suddenly Kaley Cuoco's voice breaks in, "Really, Eli?"

<cut to Eli and Kaley Cuoco in a bubble bath together>

Kaley: "This is your fantasy? To take a bubble bath with me while telling me about your role playing game?"

    <knock on door>

Eli's Mom: "Eli! What are you doing in there?!"

    <Eli looks towards door>

Eli: "Nothing, Mom! Can't I have any privacy!"

<Eli looks back towards Kaley only now she's Sgt. Greer>

    Eli: "Oh great..."

Edit: Edited to replace Katee Sackhoff with Kaley Cuoco

But yeah, so agreed. Impulse is sooo a better name than Kid Flash. Sorry, but Kid X will never be as cool as just X.
You could actually make a case for becoming Kid X for branding reasons. You go from being some random kid with superspeed to being someone with the Flash's seal of approval.

If you want a full fledged computer that can do word processing and such, I would avoid tablets. They are relatively new for the general consumer market and are pretty much glorified smart phones at the moment. Give them a few generations and they might be suitable for lightweight computing but not right now.

I do have one question for anyone that saw it. The beginning with Palpatine was spoofing a movie I couldn't remember, I think it was recent. It had "Baba O'Reilly" playing in the background. What movie was that from?
I didn't see the special but Baba O'Riley is the theme song for CSI: NY. No movies come to mind though it wouldn't surprise me if it was used in something.
