Just sharing with my Virtue community a conversation I had with my mom today.
Me: "So I got called about an interview for that receptionist position I applied for."
Mom: "Oh, that's wonderful!"
Me: "But they want me to go through handgun certification training."
Mom: "Absolutely not. That's just another Virginia Tech waiting to happen."
.....
I love you too, Mom. -
What is the blue square in the upper left corner? Is that my account?

Post counts are sort of like Edits on Wikipedia.
Sure, you can sign up for an RFA after having 30k edits, but how many were just redundant?

I21: Lady Gaga Hair
Overview:- Hair
Coming Soon!(TM)
Honestly, I have no idea when or what it's about, but considering i20 is still hot off the presses I am going to bet i21 is a few months away. -

Read down into the hilarious comments by the author. You certainly don't want sentences like this in your book:
"She carried her stocky build carefully back down the stairs."
"Don and Katy watched hypnotically Gino place more coffees out at another table with supreme balance."
That was an amazing read; thank you. -
Verbal Assault.
Voodoo Girl hits you with Withering Wit for 27897pts of Confidence Crushing damage! -
This is how I run my Trials. Everyone typically walks out with a Very Rare. Period.
For the visually and conceptually impaired, this is a joke. -
I say Vocal Minority because I haven't experienced On Live anyone, on any of the global channels I belong to, any of the leagues I've been to, or during any large scale "event" complaining of the participation system.
Typically at the end of an iTrial run I'm sure I'll hear, "Dang! Another Common Table!"
But I, personally, have yet to hear anyone, at all, complain about the participation system on Live. -
Quote:You should totally join the Virtue Server.Imagine that I'm re-learning from scratch. What should I do? What would be good resources to go by? What additional items, programs and material should I be looking for? What outside sites and 3rd party programs should I look at? Which ones should I avoid?
In short, I'm thrusting myself back in to CoX. There were many aspects of CoX that I never really explored. Rather than go slowly back over everything, I was wondering if there were some good & handy guides (yeah, I know about the new in-game help thingy). I'm looking more for stuff that I can peruse online during breaks.
Basic combat and movement, I get. I have some impressive and not-so-impressive builds. One of which, though the build is cool the alt would no longer be using claws. I'd have to "re-roll" him completely. :/ Ah well.
I appreciate your guidance in advance.
Just saying. -
Just summarizing what I understand the argument to be from the above posts.
A few people are upset that the Participation System isn't awarding them the l00t they feel they should be getting, therefore it should be removed, is the argument as I'm understanding.
I think the Participation System should remain, but based on collected data it should be adjusted as needed. -
So the participation system should be taken out back and shot because it's awarding a few people "10 threads" is the argument, because a vocal few have not been satisfied with the l00t they are receiving at the end of the trial?

I'm not saying spam powers. Mashing one button over and over again doesn't make one more "useful."
Using a broader selection of your powers, constantly, and with purpose. i.e., as a Master Mind, using your secondary to buff your teammates when battle is low and using on your enemies when the battle begins, or as a defender, if everyone is healed, using your secondary to focus on doing damage.
Spam ≠ Participation -
Quote:I honestly don't know.last night after my random dc costing me a reward table in BAF i joined an 8 man lambda, and the "participation" thing still does not work
at the end of the trial, the empath who was healing rezzing everything, got a thread table and the stone tank (who was the ONLY tank/brute) got threads, everyone else got a component table of varying rarity (i think 3 common, 1 uncommon, 2 rare)
how in the heck did the empath defender and stone tank manage to get threads when especially the stone tank was playing a key role in keeping marauder from 1 shotting everyone else?
I know from my experiences, I've only been on one iTrial where someone got 10 threads. I know from my personal experiences, I've generally gotten Uncommons, some commons, and 2 rares.
So, my belief is that the Participation metric should still be there - but, yes, it is new and it is going to need tweaking (nothing is ever really perfect out of the box) - but I feel the removal of the system is a far worse option. -
Quote:Epic win.No no no.
It's the CAT that's on fire, and it really happened to my wife.
Long story short: Longhaired deaf cat who likes to wander around on my wife's computer desk while she's playing. This particular day she was burning a candle on the desk and he flicked his tail through it (he's very proud of his fluffy tail) and lit the end of his tail on fire.
Not realizing his tail was on fire, he wandered in front of her and she noticed the burning feline. Now, since the cat is deaf he had no idea why my wife suddenly tried to grab him and he took off across the room.
Sometime between noticing the burning cat and him taking off across the room she typed "afkcatsonfire" and didn't say anything else for about 5-10 minutes. When she got back she related what happened and I quite literally fell out of my chair laughing. He ran laps around the living room after he realized his tail was on fire, she finally doused him with a glass of water she had on the desk. It's a miracle he didn't burn the house down in his antics. The cat was okay, he just looked pretty silly for a couple months while his fur was growing back.
I was the only person on the team that actually believed her, and it may have been one of the other people on the team that shared it in the AFK excuses thread. -
Quote:Sometimes things go over people's head or they read too much into itIn short, if you have to explain it, you've already failed. And in this instance, the humor isn't helping anything (a'la Golden Girl's wink icons all the time). Mostly due to your lack of segregation as to what is your serious POV and what is your non-serious.
YOU may think it's "obvious". Unfortunately text is a horrifically bad medium for subtle emotional shading (unless you get EXTREMELY verbose)., then when they take it the wrong way it has to be explained.

Quote:The "I'm always right," was humor, not seriousness - hence the picture from "Death Becomes Her."lol at the bitter chick posting that her old server is a hole in one of their welcome threads calling others chafed.
When you said you are always right it stoped you from saying it was your opinion. If you hold the value of an opinion so high you wouldn't be telling others their's where wrong. Please try to stay straight on your arguments the flip flopping sort of detracts.
Care to try to troll me again? I personally thing it would be fun but your far too easy game. I remember how nutty you have gotten in other threads your much to easily set off.
For an example of humor, please refer to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7sMilQeVHk
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/humor (definition #3)- a : that quality which appeals to a sense of the ludicrous or absurdly incongruous
- b : the mental faculty of discovering, expressing, or appreciating the ludicrous or absurdly incongruous
- c : something that is or is designed to be comical or amusing
As for being "nutty" or "easily set off" - let me clarify my point of view:
My Point of View:- 1. This is the internet.
- 2. Posting on the forums does not affect my ability to eat or pay rent.
- 3. How I am perceived on the forums does not affect my ability to eat or pay rent.
- 4. I enjoy a good debate, even if I am posting into the ephemera.
-
Self publishing isn't bad if what you're publishing is what is considered a "niche" sort of book - where it is only really going to appeal to a certain few people.
If you think your piece has a broader audience, then I would go after a literary agent/publishing house.
Personally, I do vanity prints of my diaries than I've been transcribing from handwritten to typed using Lulu, but they do offer some marketing and distribution packages. -
Quote:Oh, and because I participate in these iTrials and never get threads I don't know what's going on? Seriously? What, because I haven't been chafed like others I can't have an opinion? And because I don't believe the chafing is at all arbitrary I'm wrong and can't have an opinion?I do participate and i get threads so obviously you have no clue whats going on before declaring such a statement go read other threads and see what the flaws are.
I agree with this suggestion, though doubt it will happen. /signed
Seriously? -
I think Madeline Ashton's stare communicates how I feel about you not agreeing that I'm right.
Always right. -
So what do you do when you're being followed by "Ghost Hitler" on Twitter?

Quote:I don't think the metric is arbitrary.Should I be getting a thread reward table despite working as hard as I can, as I do every Trial, simply because a no-brained computer with its arbitrary metric decided I was on par with leechers and non participants and likely because I happen to be a mastermind?
SMEG THE HELL NO!
I participate every damn time! I do everything in my damn power to do what the damn thing wants me too while avoiding DYING, and then that rarely works because the bloody Praetorians cheat! And I STILL haven't gotten above an uncommon and even got the bloody threads table!
What the Hell do you CALL that, if not participation? Hmm?
(And yes, I'm a tad hacked the hell off right now, due to being DC'd by my shoddy net provider for a split second while Marauder was at 17 HP left, and the god damned load faffed around for so long that I logged back in to find I'd done all that for NOTHING! Prime metric to see if your system isn't working, is when its making things not fun!)
When the iTrials came out and I was playing my Dominator I noticed I was getting Common reward tables every time - then I stood back and looked at how I was playing my Dom.
I had my Strangler on Auto and that was pretty much it. I'd slap down some immobilizes during Phase III but otherwise the rest of the trial I just targeted through the main tank and let my Strangler auto-hold and do nothing, basically.
Then I was like, well, it wouldn't hurt to use my secondary powerset and some of my other main powers. So I started using all of them. Constantly. Even if it felt like they weren't doing anything. Once I got my Interface power suddenly all of my powers seemed relevant. Even if they weren't doing a ton of a damage, even if they weren't really debuffing, even if they weren't really slowing that much, they had a chance to land that Paralytic Interface secondary effect.
That's when all of my powers became relevant. That's when Thorntrops & Rain of Fire, even if they didn't slow down those Vicki's and 9CU's, became important - just for that Interface effect.
What did I notice? I was suddenly getting Uncommon and Rare tables.
Moral of the Story:
At level 50 you should have a whole slew of powers are your behest - even as a Master Mind.
I have a Master Mind. I use my secondary - poison - constantly. Whatever your Master Mind build is, whatever your secondary is, I don't think for a moment there is a situation during either iTrial where you shouldn't have a moment to not be using it - either attacking your foes or enhancing your teammates.
What do we call that?
PARTICIPATION. -
