For the past...who knows, months, I've had constant graphical glitches where full map, character, and UI textures are replaced with odd pictures that are either icons, chopped up pictures, or a little bit of both. A simple /reloadgfx would solve the problem temporarily until I moved on into another zone. And for a while now, I didn't even care until a friend of mine re-joined CoH and he stumbled upon the same problem and started to complain. Both of us use ATI cards, his being the 5600 and mine the 5800 series. I believe there is something wrong with our settings but I don't know if anyone else has stumbled upon these problems before and solved them which is my esteemed hope before I start altering things I'll forget about later. A screen shot and HijackThis report are posted below. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the build Ryu, I decided to do something of a mimicry and look at ALL the defense IO's to see what could get me the highest rating, though my stalker is primarily for PvE at the moment (don't have the skill for PvP >_>). This new and, hopefully, FINAL pass yields me some decent numbers. Final total is 44.4% Melee, 43.7% Ranged, 44.4% AoE. Resistance has been lowered to make room for GotA IO's which raises my recovery rate to 3.77/s at an end drain of 1.42/s, a net return of 2.35/s which I believe should be satisfactory. As always, looking for critique:

Awesome, thanks for the tip, much easier then pretending to number crunch in my head. :P
I did another pass at my build and started looking at lower-level IO's, specifically Steadfast Protection for the +3% Def since there's no way I could afford a Gladiator's Armor. Along with some other adjustments, I may have actually solved my dilemma. This new pass yields 44.3% Melee, 42.4% Ranged, and 42.4% AoE Defenses with Divine Avalanche picking up the melee defense at 74.3% via 2 applications. Build is as follows:

Thanks for the build, I wrote up my own draft for a build which I tried basing on your own although it didn't seem to deviate that much from my older ones. In total, I gain 40-42% of melee, ranged, and AoE defense out of hide. As always, divine Avalanche caps me over. I believe this is the build I would like work with though it has a 1.37 drain and 3.55 recovery, so a +2 instead of +3 like yours. I'd like to review some critiques before I decide to run with it though:

I find your post very encouraging and look forward to your build for some inspiration. Like I said before, I've never thought ridiculously hard on my past builds which has been my problem. The philosophy "If I'm still living, I'm still good" carried me on the past few years but I felt it was time for a game-changer hence why I'm seeking help on the forums. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for the reply. With my current IO build, I drop considerably when out of hide as you noted. Your formula was right as I tried testing it with hide on and off, both values ended up to 25-27%, so I am indeed below the softcap for defense. Considering such an event, it probably would be best to drop the Teleport pool for Fighting.
However, I've considered another possibility to drop Darkness and swap back to Soul Mastery in order to keep one ranged and a hold move, having Caltrops being my wide-slowing move for events like BAF. Granted your formula, my defense out of hide should be around 37-35%. Soft-caped out of hide. And of course, Divine Avalanche with just one strike would bring me to soft-cap within melee parameters. With this aspect in mind, would THIS build should be a sufficient one?

I don't post a lot, and I've never had help or put a large amount of thought in my stalker's IO's since I've survived a lot of TF's with my build, but this recent update has had me at a razor's edge on my survivability and I think it's about time I got help. My stalker sits around 30-37'ish percent in defense, 30% being lowest out of hide, 37% being highest in hide. I've read a few posts around these boards and am assuming, if correct, that the soft cap, which I SHOULD be at, is 45%. I've tried to divide my options into two paths. One path will keep my teleport and leadership abilities to provide myself and team some flexibility in terms of damage and stealthing missions. The other path is to sacrifice Recall Friend, Assault, and Tactics for the Fighting pool for Tough and Weave. On both builds, I've adjusted my defensive sets since I realized I hit way about the HP cap. Both builds will have IO's I intend to get but do not possess, I decided to just leave it there for the sake of planning. Builds are as followed.

I loaded my computer with a Antec 850W Signature Edition, so I don't think power is the main cause of concern. As for other methods applied, I did manage to squeeze in additional time through Steam, enough to lower the settings and get more time in for a leveling session. I downloaded GPU-Z and had it running while playing, and what I've noticed is the GPU load is exceedingly large for any other game, and the crashes occur once the load has been capped. Sometimes the load would leap from 30% to 50% and stabilize at 70% until it would jump again and random intervals into 100% and crash.
I believe there have been other postings about such problems, but if there are others who know how to stop this problem, I'd LOVE to hear the answer. Thanks. -
Thanks all for the feedback, tried the various methods: sprayed off the CPU and card, cleaned drivers, re-installed, etc. etc.
Sadly, nothing has worked. I did manage to squeeze in an extra few minutes via lowered settings, but the crash was still inevitable. I am left to believe either something is definitively wrong with either the game (doubtful) or the card (likely). Unfortunately for the RMA situation, the card is from BFG Tech, and they went into bankruptcy so I'm very much out of luck. Best thing I can do is see if my laptop will work with CoH until I buy a new card (thinking ATI, sick of Nvidia).
If people still feel like pitching ideas, I'd appreciate it. Another note I should leave: the game does seem to crash not only during play but during login screen too, which seems to fortify the previous theory of a faulty card.

I've turned off Vsync and capped the fps at 60, but unfortunately, it did not alleviate the problem. Same black screen crashes occur.

Ever since I signed back up to CoH for GR, I've experienced mild crashing which I casually ignored and continued to play. Up until recently, however, the crashes have become much more frequent and has risen into a grave problem for gameplay. I get at most five minutes of movement and play before the game freezes, screen blacks out, and then screens turn back on to show the game is no longer playable. A message on the taskbar would notify me as such: "Display driver NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 257.21 stopped responding and has successfully recovered." And every once in a while, another error message would appear on top of the CoH window stating that the Nvidia OpenGL driver has detected a problem with the video driver, requiring the game to shut down. I have attempted to upgrade the driver (258.xx), roll back the driver (195.xx, 197.xx), uninstall CoH, re-install CoH, turn down graphics, etc. Nothing has proven to be effective enough to solve the problem.
