The only way I found is to join a team of the appropriate level and get exemplared down to their level. Try broadcasting your desired on your server Badge Channel.
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't even have to be exemplared. Just have the lowbie start the mission with you on the team. Then you can go in, one-shot the Villain, find the exploration badge, do all the side missions (and get the temp power if you get to the clickie first). Everyone who hasn't gotten the special reward will get it upon mission completion. Of course, no xp or prestige, but you'll get the other rewards and badges.
[/ QUOTE ]I assume this won't allow you to get a temp power you already got once?
[/ QUOTE ]
You can get repeats of the raid temps, as long as you have completely used up the prevous one
[/ QUOTE ]I probably should have specified that I was thinking of safeguard temps, especially the Atlas Park Bank Safeguard and the Raptor Pack. What are the "raid" temps? -

And I've moved the list to the Player Guides section, here.
Many thanks to all who contributed, and don't hesitate to continue over there.
Thank you all! -
A list of Player Types: what Type of Player are you?
-
There are many different Types of Players. With the help of many others (My thanks to all of you!), I've compiled a list of some of them:
Farmer: A player who repeatedly runs content for the Rewards (XP, Inf., Prestige, Drops, etc.). Although any content can be farmed, and any goal can be farmed for, Farmers generally concentrate on game content that gives an above-average amount of XP (and other Rewards) for the overall effort needed to collect it.
<ul type="square">Powerleveller/PLer: a subset of Farmers, Powerlevellers try to get a character to level 50 as fast as they can, so they can do things with that character that they cannot do at a lower level.
Leveller: A player who plays to get the next level, the next power, the next set of slots. They enjoy "finishing" a character and starting the next one. The difference between them and Powerlevelers is that speed is not as much of a factor, nor are they necessarily Farmers.
Roleplayer/RPer: A player who enjoys the role-playing aspects of the game, from having a specific concept for their character that guides their choice of AT, Origin, Powers and Costume, to creating an entire life story for their character, to staying "in character" as much as they can while interacting with other players. RPers frequently also write fiction about their character(s).
<ul type="square">Concept Artist: An RPer who enjoys the "concept" aspect of RP, combining AT, origin, powers, costume and bio to fill out the concept of their character, but is not as interested in interactive RP.
Actor: An RPer who focuses more on the interactive portions of RP, and isn't as concerned with the "concept" of their character(s).
MRP/ERP: An RPer who enjoys "Mature" or "Erotic" Roleplay. (Note: MRP/ERP is a bit of a "touchy" subject in the game, and many RPers react negatively to it. All RPers should be assumed NOT to be MRP/ERPers until confirmed otherwise.)
PvPer: A player who enjoys Player versus Player combat, whether in the Arena or in the PvP zones.
<ul type="square">Duelist: A PvPer who prefers 1-on-1 combat.
Badger: A player who enjoys collecting badges. Often specializes in a specific type of badge.
Content Monger: A player who enjoys collecting souvenirs.
Marketeer/"Ebil" Marketeer: A player who enjoys "playing the market", increasing their Influence/Infamy through buying and selling at Wentworths/The Black Market. "Ebil Marketeers" are often claimed to be manipulating the market to their own advantage (the actual practicality of that is a subject of frequent "discussion").
Hardcore: A player who enjoys the challenge of trying to avoid ever being defeated. Either from level 10 up ("Debt = Delete"), or at ANY level ("Defeat = Delete"). (Note: this usage of "Hardcore" is different from "Casual vs. Hardcore".)
Min/Maxer, Optimizer: A player who enjoys figuring out how the get the absolute best Defense/Accuracy/To Hit/etc. they can, and working to achieve that build. Sometimes called Hardcore, but not the same as above, nor the same as "Casual vs. Hardcore".
Forumite: A player who frequents the Forums, possibly spending more time there than in the game.
Soloer/Soloist: A player who frequently plays solo, possibly even in preference to team play.
Teamer: A player who prefers to play with a specific group of players: SG/VG members, in-game and/or real life acquaintances/friends, etc..
Pugger: A player who frequently plays on Pick-Up Group teams.
Commander: A player who frequently assembles and leads their own teams, as opposed to looking for other teams to join.
TFer/SFer: a player who prefers Task Forces and/or Strike Forces. They often know them "inside and out".
Fighter/Combatant: the actual combat itself is the Fighter's primary reason for playing the game.
Steamroller/Speedster: A player who prefers completing content as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Grouper: A player who enjoys doing things related to running and maintaining a SG/SVG, especially as an officer.
Builder/Base Builder: A player who enjoys designing and building Super Bases.
Explorer: Explorers come in different types:
<ul type="square">World Explorer, Tourist: A player who enjoys exploring the out-of-the way areas, and/or collecting Exploration Badges. Tourists frequently clear the "Fog of War" from the entire zone map.
Mechanic, aka Analyzer, Investigator: A player who enjoys exploring how the game and the powers work, and how they interact.
Seeker of the Obscure: A a player who likes to hunt down the really obscure. Like the "meat locker" in the RWZ Base. (No, I'm not going to tell you where it is. That would spoil the fun.)
Mentor/Helper: A player who enjoys helping other players enjoy the game, especially newer ones. Mentors like to lend a hand, to show somebody "the ropes", to help them get to a difficult (or interesting) destination, etc. (The people who create game-related support materials such as the Paragon Wiki, the various map sites, the hero/villain designer programs, etc., are all Mentors[.)
Daredevil: A player who enjoys testing their own limits, frequently attempting things with no guarantee of success. Win or lose doesn't matter as much as the rush of facing impossible odds . . . and sometimes pulling it off anyway. Frequently Scrappers, Daredevils can actually be any Archetype.
Challenger: A player who seeks out the biggest, baddest challenges in the game to see how they fare against them. Very similar to a Daredevil.
Sweeper: A player who frequently "Street Sweeps" - defeating the "local" mobs found throughout the game, both on the streets and elsewhere in the various zones . "Street Sweeping" (aka "Sweeping") is often used for full levels' worth of XP at low levels, and sometimes used to get "those last few XP" at higher levels.
<ul type="square">Power Sweeper: A player who is leveling a character all the way to 50 solely through Street Sweeping.
Tester: A player who enjoys playing on the test server(s) to explore what's new in each patch and Open Beta. A Closed Beta Invite is their "Golden Ticket".
Socializer: A player who plays the game for the interaction with other players.
Author/Writer: A player who enjoys creating MArch missions/arcs for the story. Authors tend to focus on having the story "just so".
Engineer: A player who enjoys creating MArch missions/arcs for the mechanics of it. Engineers to focus on perfecting the mechanical details.
AEer/MAer/MArcher: A player who prefers running Mission Architect content to regular content.
Completist: A player who enjoys doing every mission and taskforce in the level range and getting every contact to maximum reputation. Before it was possible to turn off XP, Completists often deliberately collected large amounts of debt to avoid "out-leveling" un-completed content.
Organizer: A player who frequently organizes and runs costume contests, raids, etc.
Costumer: A player who enjoys designing and creating costumes.
Artist: A player who enjoys creating fan art, CoH-related videos, etc.
GP/General Player: A player who doesn't identify as any particular type, but does many different things about equally.
Wanderer: Similar to a GP in that he doesn't identify as any particular type, but tends to be more impulsive than a GP. The Wanderer plays multiple alts at erratic times and dates, doing whatever catches their interest at the moment. (Some Wanderers have the attention span of a gnat on caffeine.)
---------------------------------------------------
NOTE: the following types of play are specifically prohibited by the rules of the game. These actions may subject the player to punishment up to and including termination of their account:
Griefer: A player who interferes with other players' enjoyment of the game.
Exploiter: A player who enjoys ferreting out and/or utilizing content that gives excessive rewards (as determined by the Devs).
--------------------------------------------------
So what Type of Player are you? While most of us engage in many of these activities at different times, you probably have a few "defining" Types. Start with the Types that, if you couldn't play that way, would reduce your enjoyment of the game, or even cause you to leave. Pick the one(s)s that you feel best define your overall play, and that's your Player Type.

Format's simple. It's a list. With a few sublists that actually use the LIST tag. That I'm sick of adding tags to manually in Wordpad.

Dropping the mission doesn't always give you the special power though.

If the mission awards a temp power, you get it. Though, as I recall, you usually can't drop missions that reward temp powers...
[/ QUOTE ]You used to be able to drop safeguards. That made it very easy to get the Raptor Pack on a level 5 Hero. I whined for a month after they changed it, every time I had to actually RUN the mission. -

I am working on a list of Player Types in General Discussion.
It's gotten quite large, and I'm thinking it might be appropriate to post it here.
I've never written anything I would call a guide before, and I don't want to be presumptuous, so what's the protocol? Should a person have some certain level of experience to post a "guide"? Or just post, and if it's not appropriate for the Guides section, people will "provide guidance"?
Also, it looks to me you handle updates by editing the first post as long as you can, then reposting as much as is needed in the same thread. If you make significant revisions, then you start a new thread with a new version, etc. Is that about right?
Thanks! -
Okay, how about this for Farmer and Powerleveler:
Farmer: A player who enjoys "Farming": repeatedly running content for the Rewards (XP, Inf., Prestige, Drops, etc.). Although any content can be farmed, and any goal can be farmed for, Farmers generally concentrate on game content that gives an above-average amount of XP (and other Rewards) for the overall effort needed to collect it.

I would have sworn on a stack of Klondike Bars that I already posted this:
I was on a team where one player kept telling me to get closer. (I was a Blaster, on a good team. In that situation I don't DO "closer".) He finally explained that I'd hit more often if I got closer.
He was convinced that distance affected accuracy/to hit. No amount of "discussion" from the rest of the team would convince him otherwise, and he finally quit, saying we were all "lamas loosers". (still my favorite incoherent insult.)
Then I saw someone else describe virtually the same experience in the forums. I sure hope it was the same guy, and that there aren't TWO of him out there. -
Stand down, stand down!
Okay, I was trying to inject some humor, and that definition is nowhere near as informative as I've tried to be with the others.
I'm going to get advice on this from the Farming Discussion thread, then I'll change it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Guess I'm a Soloer/Costumer ...but I can't find my primary reason for playing on your list, maybe there's a type missing? I play CoH because I enjoy creating character concepts - completing concepts with appropriate powers is probably my *only* reason for leveling a character up at all.
I used to say that I play CoH because I like playing with Super-hero dolls, but that's not strictly true, I'm all about the concepts (the combination of name, AT, origin, power sets/power choices, bio & costume) The rest is just fluff to me.
[/ QUOTE ]I currently have that lumped in under RPer.
How about:
Roleplayer/RPer: enjoys the role-playing aspect of the game, from having a specific concept for their character that guides their choice of AT, Origin, Powers and Costume, to creating an entire life story for their character, to staying "in character" as much as they can while interacting with other players. RPers frequently also write fiction about their character(s).

MRP/ERP: an RPer who enjoys "Mature" or "Erotic" Roleplay. (Note: MRP/ERP is a bit of a "touchy" subject in the game, and many RPers react negatively to it. All RPers should be assumed NOT to be MRP/ERPers until you know otherwise.)
-

Lady friend many years ago had a parrot that could do a PERFECT imitation of her telephone's electronic ring.
Unfortunately, I didn't know that when I agreed to housesit one weekend.
When she got back, she asked why I had moved the phone away from the table near the parrot.
"SO I COULD TELL WHICH BLOODY ONE OF THEM WAS RINGING!!!" -

...farming that is.
It's simple. Farming is producing crops for harvest. Before the Mission Architect, players couldn't produce ANYTHING in the game. Thus, farming did not exist.
So, what were they doing? Ranching. They were herding pre-existing cattle into fenced in areas for eventual slaughter. That's right, all they were doing was ranching.
Farming did not exist before the Mission Architect. Now, by the implementation of the Mission Architect system where you can make your own enemy groups, farming now exits.
The developers, with Issue 14, finally created farming. For realz.

My account says my ex's name because he's the one that opened the account. (I didn't have a credit card or anything at the time, so I couldn't.)
I've asked support if I can get it changed to my name. Everything else is in my name now. Negatory.
[/ QUOTE ]Would have been nice to have that info (even as "a friend tried, but . . . ) BEFORE I posted.

Is it possible? I'm trying to change my name in my master account (My real name) and it won't let me. Do I need some special permissions to do so?
Also, can I change the name of my master account to something else? Or does this require special permissions also?
[/ QUOTE ]Ask Customer Service. Even if it's not normally allowed, if you have a good enough reason, they may be willing to help you out. Be polite, be reasonable, explain exactly why you would like to change it, and be willing to accept a "Sorry, can't do it."
A change of name due to marriage, for example, would a very good, and very understandable reason. So would wanting to change it because you're now divorced.
But if it's because, say, you wanted to add your middle initial, well, I wouldn't hold my breath.
Good luck! -
(latest version)
There are as many ways to play the game as there are players. Here in no particular order, are a few of the different Player Types:
Farmer: enjoys finding and running the content that gives the best "Bang for the Buck".
Powerleveller/PLer: a subset of Farmers, Powerlevellers are working on getting a character to level 50 as fast as they can.
Leveller: enjoys getting the next level, the next power, the next set of slots. Enjoys "finishing" a character and starting the next one. The difference between them and Powerlevelers is that speed is not as much of a factor, nor are they always Farmers.

NOTE: the following types of play are specifically prohibited by the rules of the game. These actions may subject the player to punishment up to and including termination of their account:
Griefer: enjoys reducing other players' enjoyment and/or success at play, and/or interfering with other player's actions.
Exploiter: enjoys ferreting out and utilizing content that gives excessive rewards (as determined by the Devs).
So what Type of Player are you? We all do different things at different times, and may play different characters different ways. If you see a Type on the list that resonates for you, and if it were removed would reduce your enjoyment of the game, or even cause you to quit, then that's definitely one of your Player Aspects.

Purist - Definition: A CoX player who gets all secondary and primary powers, along with two powers from a travel pool and four APP/PPP's.
I just have a thing for a full set. Is this bad idea? Both in general, and on an Elec/Dev/MM blaster?
[/ QUOTE ]You can play any build you want to. You may get some flack along the lines of "LOL! You took THAT power?", but as long as YOU enjoy it, you're okay.
As others have said, though, some people are going to object to you calling it "Purist". They're going to assume you're implying that they aren't "pure" because they didn't take all of THEIR primary and secondary powers. If you have no problem with that, then go for it.
If, however, you're open to other names for it, may I suggest "Absolutist"? As in "one who takes absolutely all of their primary and secondary powers."

WITHOUT getting into a discussion of the pros and cons of each style, I'm interested in how many different playstyles are distinct enough to have their own names.
I'm aware of:
Farmer
Powerleveler/PLer
Roleplayer/RPer
PvPer
Badger
(Ebil) Marketeer
Any others?
(Casual vs. Hardcore is more an expression of attitude towards the game than a specific playstyle.)
[/ QUOTE ]
My only issue with your list is farmer = powerleveler.
Farming for XP .....
[/ QUOTE ]Oh, carp, I'm sorry, Folonius, I didn't see your post until now.
I have NEVER equated Farmer and Powerleveler, that's why I put them on separate lines. And I hope that's even more clear in the current version of the list, where I say "Usually also a Farmer".
I completely recognize that many Farmers are not Powerlevelers. I don't see, though, how anyone could be a Powerleveler without also being a Farmer, but since I can't be absolutely sure of that, I said "Usually".
If you (or anyone else) feel that it is still an invalid assumption, let me know.
[/ QUOTE ]
I usually equate a powerleveler as someone who is farming for XP ... that's why I lump the powerleveler into the farming category. I know some people don't agree with the idea, but xp is just another form of rewards. Rewards is the target of farming hence why I lump them together.
[/ QUOTE ]Ah, the joys of communicating in a purely text medium.
I thought you were saying that *I* was equating Farmer and Powerleveler, and that that was what you were taking issue with.
I understand, now, I think. (I may not get there as fast I used to, but I do get there.)
