  1. Individually you guys all rock, and as a group you blow the roof off the place. Thank you big time Titans. And if this one was all you, Guy Perfect, then wow. Just wow. My hat's off to you for doing this kind of work in this kind of time.

10,000 of us even having $1000 to give might be too much to hope for... but 10,000 of us averaging $100 each is much more reasonable. That comes up to $1,000,000. Obviously by itself that isn't a fraction of the cost necessary to purchase the IP and engine license. But what it is, is proof to potential investors that City of Heroes has a sizeable and dedicated customer base*. What an experienced investor should see in that number is a group of fans so loyal they'd spend money not for the benefits of a subscription, and not for the items or services in a transaction, but solely as a means to keep their chosen game existing. Just for a chance, no less, not even a guarantee. Combine that with the success of the Freedom model, plus the extent to which the newest expansion would make future updates even easier to produce (namely the Lua scripting and demorecord additions), and in all honesty, any investor who can't read the word "profit" between those lines should find themselves a new line of work.

(* It can also act as immediately available operating capital for things like payroll and utilities, to carry them through the negotiations and the initial "get back up to speed" phase - the period before development can begin again, during which they need to work out details like rewriting contracts, hiring and training replacements, possibly finding a new office, and so on.)

    Farewell

Thanks for helping make sure the game we all got was as good as it could be, Ryan. And then for making new parts that helped it become even better. I also love hearing stories of people going from playing the game to actually working on it... I can only imagine how straight-up cool that must've been. Congrats!

Good luck wherever you end up next, man. And stay safe out there hero!
  4. Captain, it's an honor to fight by your side.

    /e salute
  5. Turns out all my unanswered questions are either about features instead of lore, or have already been asked. Except for one.

Were we ever going to get back into Galaxy City? If so, what was being planned for it?

*shrugs* I live kinda close. We could hang out sometime.

I mean, I'd need a passport to visit. And traveler's insurance. And to exchange my money.

And drive six hours to the ferry.

And how foreign is America anyway? Would I need booster shots? I don't wanna catch ebola or scurvy or something.

... ehhh on second thought maybe I'll just stay here. Who wants to go to Maine, anyway?
  9. I'll be there, without a doubt! Virtue's my home server. If I can't make that short a trip, what's the good of me?

Have you thought about streaming the rally, on Twitch for example? It'll give us a video to link people to both for the live show and after the fact. Footage from an event like this would make it that much more compelling to run with as a story.

Yeah, I'm pretty awesome. You're welcome.

But let's come back to that Praetoria place for a minute. Time was, that only existed as a handful of mission maps you accessed through the Stargates. ...uh, I mean Portal Corps. We'd go to one, and then the next and the next, and collectively we'd pretend they were another dimension, and that was pretty cool. Till we could go to the real place, and walk it's streets and see its citizens. That dialed up the cool factor by a whole lot. But ultimately it was still just a really (really, really... really) pretty place to hang out. Y'know, smell the zowie roses, marvel at enemies with yellow target boxes who would only attack if you attacked first. That kinda thing.

What cranked it up to 11 was the ability to sign up as either Loyalist or Resistance... and also have the chance to act as an infiltrator for the other side. Wonderful storylines that seriously made me feel like I was caught up in the middle of a war where both sides were fighting the good fight, and everyone had their distinct set of flaws. And the subject matter in general, the stories just had so much meat on their bones. I mean... Aaron Walker. I was chokin' up, man. Seriously.

In the end it doesn't even matter (to me at least) which stories in the whole game were my favorites, and which ones were written by whom. Just the fact that the stories were getting better and better all the time is what mattered. And you were a big part of that outcome. So thanks man.

Good luck in whatever you do next, John. And stay safe out there hero!

(and yes, both of the main Mids devs are involved in the project. Not many people are as well versed in the power mechanics)
I'm counting the group as a whole with that particular sentiment. I just haven't, until now, been paying attention to who that group includes. I assure you I'm paying attention now though! Fantastic work, all of you... for past efforts as well as current ones.

Hell yeah I'll give them a hell yeah!!! I thought you guys were tireless and selfless when you were programming Mids and such just for our convenience. But this... you deserve a medal just for trying. And I fully believe that at least on some fronts this will amount to a lot more than just trying.

Godspeed, you beautiful maniacs. Let us know if you need anything.

So if a move loses my stuff in the auction house or my Paragon Rewards, I won't mind as long as the game is playable.
Yeah, you know what? You're absolutely right. It's just stuff. Stuff can be gotten back. But being able to play... that's what matters.

That file will contain data about your character's name, server, archetype, origin, powersets, slotting and slotted enhancements, inventory (salvage, inspirations, enhancements, influence/infamy/information, experience, etc.), a complete description of your costume including body type, scales, and customization options, and probably a whole bunch of other stuff I'm probably leaving out that Guy Perfect knows the innards of.
Would this data include things stored in Auction House slots? Or is it fair to say that since that list connects to a separate server they'd be a write-off?

Also, would the tool have the ability to save things bound to the account for later reinstatement? Things like unused global character unlocks; number of character slots per server; Paragon Rewards information; market purchase history; full Account Items list; and remaining Character Items list.

Just putting that out there in case it got overlooked in the chaos. The sooner you think of it the longer you have to work on it, right?

I'll take it. The other option being lost forever? I'll take it happily. My characters shall slumber peacefully in these stasis pods until their world comes back to life. EDIT: Or they wake up in a new world.

Haha! The joke's on you! My internet is MUCH too slow for your insidious plots; I had ample time to close that page before the video loaded.
  20. I never had any intention of deleting them. Primal Earth is going to need all the protection it can get, whether or not we're able to join them. Or ain't ya heard? There's a storm coming.

... seriously though. Since I heard the news I've been holding out hope that something would happen to change it, or at the very least something would happen later to bring it back in some form. So my characters were never going anywhere. Just in case.

  22. Wow okay. I just noticed I never gave you my vote. I thought I did, had it written and everything, but in the confusion I must've closed the page before sending it. Well here it is, count me in.

I sub by the year and it was coming due on the 11th, and I was all set to spend a hundred or two on the second set of super packs. So you've got at least $300 from me right away if you get to that point. Plus an ongoing sub fee, by year or month, however you'd prefer it.

I think if anyone can do this it's you guys. Regardless though, thanks for trying.

Hehe... one night in the old Atlas I came across a bunch of people making a bridge out of Ouro portals, each one as far to the edge from the last as they could get it without leaving a gap. That bridge stretched clear from the platform under the statue, nearly to the railing on the opposite side of the street. Man that was priceless.
