Hi all,

Hoping someone can point me in the direction of a reasonably priced laptop that can handle CoH in Ultra Mode or at least have the ability to upgrade to a vid card that can. Looking to stay in the $500-800 range if possible. I've only owned desktops so I don't really know how easy it is to switch out Vid cards or add RAM to a laptop. It seems like most of the laptops I've looked at have integrated cards. Father XMas where are you?? ;-)

Went and picked up a new vid card today. Decided to cheap out for now and actually downgraded a notch to the Nvidia Geforce 9500GT 1GB. Plugged it in and have been having no further issues. I was able to keep the same settings on AoC, but I did have to lower my CoH settings a bit to allow it to run smoothly. :-( Oh well. No big deal. When business picks back up, I'll spring for a new super duper card. For now, $55 for the 9500 GT to hold me over isn't too bad.... Thanks for all the great info.

Thanks for all the great info guys. Gonna try to troubleshoot a couple more things before I-order a new one, but I will definitely take your advice.


Decided to try uninstalling all drivers and pulling out then re-inserting my vid card. WAiting for updated drivers to download now. What do you all think are the odds of that actually working? :-P

Well, here's the latest development. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, and when I try to run CoH or AoC, the computer freezes, a blue screen pops up, and the system reboots. Once everything is up and running, my display is very low resolution. Sounds like a vid card issue to me. Naturally, I'm 3 months out of a 1 year warranty. :-(
Anyone know where I can find an inexpensive card capable of running AoC and also running CoH in Ultra Mode?

Hi gang,

Been having some problems the last couple days with CoH and AoC. My fps has dropped to a crawl and CoH kept crashing and rebooting my computer when I would enter missions or alt+tab out of the game to look at a web page. Even my AoC game has gone from 70-80 fps down to 4-5. I checked my modem and called my ISP and everything seems to be fine on that end. My vid card is a Nvidia 9800GT. It's not that old. I had Cyberpower put it in when they buit my rig a year or so ago. Hoping someone has some ideas. Thanks.

Hi all. I was wondering if I should unistall my current drivers for my video card before installing new ones or if I can just install the new ones over the previous drivers. Thanks in advance....

I have a Fortunata that I play on Infinity all the time. Currently lvl 33. He's great on teams and a lot of fun. I went with a balance of controls, team buffs, and damage.
My second build is a Night Widow, but I find myself playing my Fortunata about 90% of the time. He feels like a combo between a Mind Dominator and Psy Defender/Blaster.

I still enjoy my 50 AR/Traps. I never used any procs in Poison Trap, so I have no idea what I was missing before they changed it. I do notice the hold doesn;t last as long, but I still use it.
I am big on character concept so I think AR/Traps is a blast.
You will still get a lot of mileage and team benefit out of the other traps.

Acid Mortar: great def/res debuff and an aggro grabber

Seeker Drones: Good for absorbing that first hit as well as a decent -acc/-dam debuff if they both detonate.

FF Generator: nice defense buff and team hold/stun protection.

Triage Beacon: not the strongest regen power in the game, but I can definitely tell a difference on larger teams fighting tough mobs when I lay this down.

Trip Mines: If you have some patience it makes soloing tough bosses or larger mobs easier. Drop a few of these then lure mob/boss to the minefield....BOOM. On teams I use it to run in and toe bomb mobs when others have aggro.

Just run your FF generator, and drop your traps then open fire. You'll have fun. Not the fastest soloer by any means but still a good concept IMO.

I know there is a whole contingency on these forums that refuses to say anything good about Traps in the hope that the devs make a change. Believe me, I agree that it needs a boost, but I still think it's fun to play.
