  2. Thyristor

    Union "Legends"

In no particular order, and trust me not an extensive list at all.

    Aldwych
    Electro-Cute
    Mirror Mask
    Spanky the Love Clown
    British Beetle
    Galaxy Red
    WhiteHalf
    Nicky
    Soul Storm
    Murk
    Denn HHN
    Stasis
    Penny May
    Biscuits
    Salacious
    Spandexual Healing
    Mother's Love
    Free Spirit
    Genejack
    Dutch Disaster
    Tsumiju Zero
    Sgt M P Lawrence
    Eleglin Eldore

and if I actually thought about it for a bit, rather than rush off a quick list 30 seconds after coming in from work, I could probably treble the length of this list.

you get missions that really stand out. of course like a proprietry brand of ambrosia you may love them or hate them, but at least they're a little different.

  4. Goodbye Stasis,

and best of luck to you and Fire Guardian

whatever games you end up playing.

  5. ..... I've found that I play upto around level 20-25, then start a new character due to boredom of doing the same "Kill 10 Trolls/Outcasts/Skulls et al." then "Enter this building/cave and save X/collect Y/kill Z".

I picked that out of the original post as it illustrates how much the stories in CoH/V are limited by the technology of the mission editor, something no doubt many of us will feel when we finally get our hands on the cut down user friendly version coming in issue 14.

every now and then that same technology is used in particularly imaginitive ways and you get missions that really stand out. of course like a proprietry brand of savoury spread you may love them or hate them, but at least they're a little different.

    Some examples,

Three factions ( two of which are ostensibly part of the same organisation) are battling in the streets over possession of an extraordinary device and the one person that can operate it. You could claim success by simply spiriting the hostage away, but there's more fame to be had if you could take all three villains down as well....

Two groups of mythical creatures are locked in eternal battle, the spells keeping them hostile are located at three locations, destroy them and a critcal step in ending the war is taken, unfortunately the creatures are as likely to attack you as each other...

You are working for a world wide organisation devoted to battling a global threat, however it seems that elements of this organisation has gone rogue. You are sent to arrest one of the ringleaders only to find him dead by his own hand and the area crawling with agents of an allied organisation, news of the rogue's activities cannot get out and you find yourself facing someone you had counted as a friend....

An original member of an arcane club asks you to rescue one of his colleagues, this leads on to an investigation into the links between two hostile groups, ultimately this leads you to the realisation that not all members of one of these groups are hostile, and also you are given the chance to craft something of enormous significance to the city.

    and there's more

There are others that could be mentioned, but the important thing to remember that there is some relief from the 'Hunt:click glowie:defeat all' grind.

Can we not just organise the great 'names-based-upon-some-variation-of-cyclone' superteam?

No point saying when I fancy doing it - since we're all mind/psi/scanner/female we can read each other's minds.

OK psee you psaturday in psimerora!

    psorted.

  7. Guessing here that 'slots' refer to 'costume slots' giving rise to the possibility of switching between two otherwise identical costumes, one with wings and one without. I've done something similar on one of my tanks, 1 slot has him in a suit of steampunkish armour, another in the same armour but sans helmet.

Further to the above answer... You'll start to see Task Forces becoming an option. These are sort of like story arcs, but require a minimum number of players to start, and you can't add new ones to the team. Some of them are fantastic, others not so much (The Hess Task Force on Striga (Level 25-30+) is great, but Positron (Level 10-15+) is considered by many to be one of the most painful experiences in the entire game).

What sets City of... apart is the story. There are story elements everywhere, and lots of the missions tie into some overarching schemes that run throughout the game. While how you play the game tends to be moderately unchanging, especially if you solo, the real excitement comes (in my opinion) from discovering the secrets of Paragon City and the groups that operate there. In the words of some other people on this forum: It's the journey that counts, not the destination. Getting to Level 50 is not the goal. Having fun on the way is.

    /agree

ought to point out that there's an awful lot to explore villainside.
  9. Kind of wondering if 'Agony Auntie' will be available for Pain dom, not had inspiration strike for shield yet
  10. Some more of mine:-

Thyristor: 2nd toon done and first to 50. 'Coriolis' was taken so defaulted to a name of character that i rolled up for 'Champions' over 27 years ago now (crikey!) a thyristor is a electronic component used for switching lots of electrical power very quickly, at least I think it is...

Iron Paladin: 1st and 3rd toon made (deleted him so that Thyristor would top the table) the toughest toon in the stable slightly hindered by the fact that I don't play tankers at all well.

Psynergy: 4th toon made and first controller, chose mind control so I wouldn't have to worry about pets during my early days, and chose empathy over kinetics as a secondary again reasoning I could learn how to use it easier.( Had she been a Mind control / kinetics 'troller I would have seen if 'Moment of Madness' was available)

Whipsaw: 5th toon and first scrapper....erm *shuffles feet and looks down.....read this name in an old game years ago.

    moving on...

Solar Max: vanilla blaster, named after the research satellite.

Thermadyne: fire/fire tank, was really pleased when this name was available. Teamed with Thermodyne for a while.

Crapaud: 1st villain, french for 'toad'..took the leaping pool.

Automatrix: female robotics mm, for some reason she reminds me of my sister-in-law

Eva Destruction: couldn't resist a pun, fortunately for everyone I resisted 'Dee Cupp', and when wings and kilts became available 'Jock McFlurry'

StarGlider: 1st pb, old computer game

Powershift: 1st ws, looking at the powers for the first time it seemed to me that a lot of them gave out buffs at the expense of enemies, both active and defeated. thus the name. Deliberately designed her to be 'cute' and is a great argument in my 'gender as a weapon' theory.

there are others but I like the above best.

    Edited for spelling

Well the shields do look rather nice it has to be said, and will look nicer once the uniform grey is taken off and few more colours/ patterns are applied. Looking at the elemental shields gave me a thought. given that 'Shield Bash' is likely be incorporated in the powerset, I wonder if part of it's damgae/ effect would take its cue from the other powerset selected, e.g. if fire melee was selected then the shield bash would do a small amount of fire DoT. Or if stone melee, perhaps more chance to stun or knockdown. Probably be impossible to code for and wouldn't interest those who would want to take 'Ice Melee' but be holding the fire shield.
  14. Well around about level 20 you have the faultline story arc, at 20+ there's the Striga Isle story arc. As you approach level 30 and beyond there's Croatoa to explore. It's highly likely that by the time you get to level 25 you'll be able to access Ourobouros, which will open up some more possibilities. At level 35, you can earn entrance into the cooperative zones of 'Rikti War Zone' and 'Cimerora' which brings the possibilty of teaming up with villains. The RWZ also has its own story arc. Level 40+ gets you to Peregrine Island and the machinations of the Praetorians, plus there are the Shadow Shards to explore. Not to mention throughout most of this the subtle (and not so subtle) plots of Nemesis, Carnival of Shadows and the mysterious Malta Group. Then there's the true origin of the Rikti to discover....well actually I could go on, there are more groups that come into play as you level up, plus some groups make a reappearance at higher levels.

    Hope this helps.
  15. Curse my shift patterns!

Would have loved to have been there for the big DING!

    Congratulations!

  18. Forum software a bit ropey though, maybe I shouldn't try to post on a mobile whilst sippin' a cold one by the pool :P
  19. /agree I do like the 'casual- friendly' aspect of the game, in fact the only reason I'm taking a break right now is that I am halfway through a 2 week villa holiday in (VERY) sunny Mallorca. See you in a week ppl!
  20. Not only that but my flypose emote doesn't work if I have 'steamy mist' running, although it works if I activate the power after the emote.
  21. Both are incredibly good, personally I think 'Donuts: by Fusionette' edges it by her 'modification' of Atlas' globe.
  22. The impervium jockstraps just ain't making it.
