  1. I see a lot of people take tough and weave, but the build you show me doesn't have that. Is it really necessary?

This build is slotted right now and I have about half a billion to spare. This is intended to be a PvP build, but I don't know anything about how PvP works. This build works fine in PvE. It doesn't slay AVs like I wish it would, but it does it's job well. What I'm looking for is advice and suggestions as to how to make this BS/Regen more capable in PvP. I'm completely open to suggestions.

For some reason, it came to me when I had a sudden urge to play Mario Kart. I was thinkin' "Ya know...it would kick *** if you could race all your CoH buddies in places like Skyway City..."

And Monsoon Mike said "The Shadow Shard could totally be our rainbow road..."

But yeah, mini games would give this game a whole new lease on life I think. Instead of it being just an MMO beat em up, it could actually turn into a living, breathing social environment.

Besides...I know I'm not the only one who wants to be in one of those Bond style card-table scenes...WITH ACTUAL STAKES! C'mon devs, mini games. It can't be THAT hard.

  9. "Actually, you told the OP in an earlier post to change their outfit because it is too close to the Amalgam character, yet you have a character that has a look almost exactly of a different copyrighted character."

He had the look AND the name. That's the rub. ...I've been sayin' that a lot. ****** McBeth. But, anyways, yeah, he had the name Spider Boy and the look of the character, which is why I suggested this. Look + Name = 2 + 2= 4 reference.

Don't worry about hurtin' my feelings, I got on my big boy undies, I promise.
  10. I know, ******' scary, right?

Buuut...I think there should be mini-games. I see so many basketball courts, but no basketball. Also, we've got casinos and pool tables and stuff like that. Wouldn't it be kinda nice if these were actually functional? A little black-jack? Perhaps some roulette?

Just more little stuff to do, ya know?

Then folks would ask "what's the reward?" because folks are greedy. Might incorporate a point system for badges? Maybe some very very small influence/infamy prizes?

I dunno. Just a thought. We run around, we beat the hell out of people, and sometimes each other and that's about it. Longbow Chaser racing? What kind of mini game would YOU like?
  11. Just stating an opinion. I don't view myself as being wrong or right. I only say what I think sucks and what I think doesn't.

And dude, that character was never played past level 22 or so and was deleted within like 2 weeks of it's creation. Part of the reason WHY I take the stance I do is because if what I've LEARNED from actually participating in that type of character creation.

It's kinda like when a person with lung cancer says "hey, don't smoke." Not once have I said I'm not guilty of this. In fact, it's the man reason why I feel the way I do. Because I've been there, I've done that, and I was honest enough with myself to say "yeah, this is pretty ****** retarded" and scrap the characters.
  12. -shrug- It is what it is. I like the look. Does the character share the same name as Nightwing? Nope. Are their stories even remotely related? Nope. Are they even the same ethnicity? Nope.

But, that ain't where my beef is.

My beef doesn't lie in physical appearance, but in the actual creation of the character. When I say piggybacking, I'm talking about the people who say "I'm the son of statesman." or "I'm alternate dimension Dr. Vahzilok." Or "I'm Snake Plysken's son." My beef is with lack of character DEVELOPMENT; The use of a cannon character as a means of writing a "Catch-22" excuse for a past.

Things of THAT nature. Perhaps I should have been more clear 'bout that.

I didn't lead either of those SGs, nor do those characters still exist. Mostly for the reason I stated. Not throwing rocks, just speaking from personal experience. Coattail riding is lame.

No. It's the principal of the thing. Keep in mind, this is the RP server and people have higher standards when it comes to the creativity and development of characters. I'll use myself for an example and my standard.

I refuse to ride the coat-tail of any cannon character in any way, shape or form and I usually mock people that do. Every time I see someone who claims to be the daughter or son or general kin of already established characters in the CoH lore, it makes me wanna pull 'em aside and tell them

"Hey, you really DON'T need to piggyback off Statesman to make your character's presence valid."

But, there are so many who do this and even more than use Praetoria as an excuse. News flash, kids. Praetoria will soon be an accessible place in game and if it's as developed as we're hoping we will probably see the Praetorian versions of a LOT of cannon characters, possible some that others have created.

Then what? Your character is completely invalidated because cannon has written them in and there's not a damn thing you can do to change it.

My advice: Make your own damn character. Write your own lore, within the cannon if you respect it enough and stop suckling from the teat of already established characters.

After all, do you really want to stand in the shadow of someone else for the entirety of your existence? I sure as hell don't.

I think we all got a little dumber from reading that. I can only hope you swallowed your tongue after making this post.

No, seriously dude. You decided to take Doc Vaz's character and simply change the canon of that character to fit your little mold. It's still THE CHARACTER, it's just YOUR VERSION.

To me, that's still riding the coat tail of a cannon character. You basically said "This is superman, but instead of being from Krypton, he's from Alabama!"

I disagree. We all know it's here. We all know nothing can be done about it. Why the hell is it even worth discussing anymore? It's not. RMT was, is, and always will be and people feed the beast on the regular. It would take far to much time, effort and money to attempt to zero in on and track down the people doing it. Not only that, but you'd have to be able to prove exactly what they were doing. This means you'd need someone to monitor PMs between hundreds of thousands of random people just to pick up on something that even remotely sounds like an RMT transaction. And even still, you wouldn't be able to prove that that's what was going on anyway because 9 times out of 10, the buyer and seller communicate outside of the game, arrange to meet, and make the transaction in game with little to no communication.

You really gonna dump hours and real money into monitoring something slicker than motor oil on a doorknob? I ain't.

Or, you can make it legal and watch the RMTers sell their influence for much cheaper than the official source. And if the game turns selling actual CURRENCY on top of premium items, then what good is it to even play the game anymore? It would make no sense to grind for influence because those with disposable incoming would just buy it. The already screwed market would get even worse, forcing even MORE people to influence just to be able to purchase their sets. You're just making more "solid currency" available to the ingame market, thus causing the market to continue to bloat. Sure, the RMTers will make less money, but the impact on the in game economy will be far worse. Something like this will DEFINITELY cause subscribers to leave.

Short answer: No it ain't. Play your own damn game.
  19. I say alter the look a little because it does look VERY similar to Spider Boy from the amalgam and carries the same name.

That's your biggest rub. The look matches the name attached to the already copyrighted material. 2 + 2= 4

Now, if you alter the look, you should get by. After all, there are a ton of superman wannabes, batman wannabes, and ESPECIALLY Power Girl wannabes that will carry the look of a copyrighted character, but have a completely different name and concept.

So, adjust the costume a little more and you should be fine. Unless the GM you come across is a [expletive deleted].

Anyways I actually dont have alot of complaints about CO except one. With no specific servers, and the population scattered across the shards RP is pretty much a lost cause. Especially random lore driven RP like I enjoy.

In CoH I find the most common flavors of RP are complete non lore based stuff mostly from new players who just make up whatever pops into their head. Nothing really wrong with that but it tends to give me the desire to say um wtf are you talking about.

The next is the SG based RPer. These are the kind that stick largely to SG rp creating complex stories that have no bearing on the general world nor much to do with it. These will often show up in TF in groups of 3 or 4, and if running the TF will be especially bad. It will fill team chat with endless babble and inane conversation about things taht can often be offensive enough to some to end up on my ignore list.

The final flavor is the one I fit into and get along with best. These are Lore based characters, flexible and ready to adapt to new information be it from a new issue or a player able to offer insight on a topic. These are not at all forced into specific boxes and often like me take what is and spin it into new directions while keeping the basics the same.

For example I have long owned a private sg base named for Crey and my and my bros alts are all members and have built up a nice little lair. We spin crey as not evil but morally neutral. Thier goal is very much to protect earth and humanity. We rp those that yo fight as not even rogue crey operatives but infact longbow black ops performing questionable actions and using crey gear and uniforms as a way to frame crey while hiding thier own misdeeds. Even created a AE mission that isnt to long or hard but very much gives evidence to this conspiracy.

By drawing from lore you can be as much a part of the world as statesman or a npc walking down the street. If all your RP draws from and has direct connection with game plots then when you discuss new players might actually assume what your talking about is indeed game fact. Older players will likely know something about what your speaking of and be able to join in without even being to much of an rper or even be OOC and still add to the coversation without it being to obvious.

Examples: GI Joe and Barbie Doll are joining a TF. They are part of the 80s toys rpsg. They fill the chat with banter about thier SGs latest rp event which had to do with several other SG members love triangle, and the fact one was a clone of another from a alternate timeline. Sure it probably is really interesting. To those who took part in it and know the other SG members. But to the 6 other guys in the TF its worthy of being put on ignore for and soon you relize your on a tf and cant actually talk to anyone else.

Now Demetrios my favored RP main goes into the club and while i am checking bios sees one mention being a former crey employee and does a good job over all. I go up and use the Didnt you use to work in a lab down the hall from mine intro. We get into chatting and soon are in a heated debate over the merits and morals of cloning and artifcial life forms. Since I am one myself IC and infact endorse Creys operation I speak of it froma purely hypothetical but potentially world saving science. She speaks of how she was a scape goat of a labs illegal research and crey hung her out to dry and left for dead in creys folly when things went bad. She makes use of the fact crey is always scott free of wrong doing. how her hero identity is so she can function without persecution as her real name brings with it.

We spend alot of time discussing our own stories but each is as familiar as it is unique and easy to follow and interact with. When we leave maybe she wonders if maybe crey wasnt the one who left her for dead but longbow ops who played her the whole time, and if a clone can be more human then the one he is cloned from.

Random long lasting indepth RP between to strangers that have alot in common because we use lore to its fullest. Ive even met one toon that was practically the eve to my adam in build and background connected to crey and the paragon protector creation. Its strange yet when you meet someone with a background as well formed as your own and a build as nearly perfect its a pretty cool feeling worthy of something out of a comic like when cable first met X man.
    tl;dr

Keep it short and sweet next time.
  21. It's okay, Limedolly. It's not like you've got the name "Poledancer" or somethin'.

    And yes, Poledancer is available.
  22. OH! OOOOH! I got a solution!

    ...Play your own damn game.

RMT will always be. There's nothing YOU can do to stop it unless they solicit you. AE made it easier for them to make their money now that they can run in AE and not worry about being ganked in RV.

Bottom line: It sucks, we know, there's little that can be done. Best you can do is spam report those e-mails and continue to play YOUR game.
